Hey, i just wondered if anyone was interested in joining a new thread i was thinking of starting up.

I was thinking of doing something along the lines of Terry Goodkind's series The Sword of Truth. I was thinking of setting it right smack bang in the midlands....in Anyandril....and sometimes in the People's Palace in D'Hara. Anywhere, wherever the rp decides to take itself.

I would love for some fellow fans who may be interested to post some bios here. You can be anyone you wish to be from the series, though i am going to play Cara the Mordsith myself. I would love for some other Mordsith's or Mud people even to show up. Of course this wouldn't be a Rahl thread without Sisters of the Light and Dark, so all are welcome.

If you have some ideas for new characters, please post the bios here and i'll see if we can get this thread started huh?

So, if anyone is interested, i would love to know......

This sounds like fun, but you'll note that I've never actually done this before.

Having never read the series either (though, I shall certainly attempt to rectify that) I may stumble at bits. I'd appreciate any correction.

I'm sorry to bother you - but would you mind telling me what a Mordsith is? Erm, also a Mud person, and a Sister of the Light and Dark?

I'm clueless, I know, do please forgive.

Don’t worry about it Damaged Goods, I’m still clueless!! So you’re not alone there!!

Well, this is a bit hard to explain, as the series has so much in it, but taking it from where I have picked it up from in the thread. Here goes…

Richard Rahl was born in Westland. In a time when the known world was split into four parts, divided by the Boundary. These are called Westland, Midlands, D’Hara and The Old World.

When Richard, who had been born with the name of Richard Cypher, was named the Seeker of Truth by his old friend and grandfather Zeddicus Z’ul Zorander (Zedd for short) and received the Sword of Truth he started out on a perilous journey across the boundary, a barrier made from the land of the dead itself, for want of a better description, to the Midlands. He was helped on his journey by Kahlan, a Mother Confessor and his future love.

A mother confessor has the ability to make whoever she touches fall instantly and infallibly in love with her. So much so that murderers would die on the spot, their hearts stopped by her mere words if she so wished it. Confessors were created for a final judgement, as a charged man would not resist confessing his deeds to her if she touched him and asked him of it. Thus, Confessors. She however is the last of her kind as they were wiped out by an evil tyrant and dark wizard by the name of Darken Rahl. Richard’s father.

Darken wished to rule over all and bring He Who Must Not Be Named from his underworld land to wreak havoc on the world. However, to do this, he must have and invoke the power of the three boxes of Orden. These boxes are the only way that Richard can defeat Darken, however, he gains all three, but Richard does end up thwarting his plans anyway. Now Darken is dead and the three boxes, which are open and still very dangerous, live in the Garden of Life in the People’s Palace in D’Hara. Richard, after killing his father, inherited the title Lord Rahl and now rules over the Midlands and D’Hara under the name of the D’Haran Empire.

For those of you that know of the series, forgive me for telling it less succinctly than should be, but there is a necessity…

A Mordsith is a woman which has been trained from a very early age to become a torture mistress. Only females can be Mordsiths as their creator’s wished those with the most compassion to become the torturers. Hanging from a thin gold chain on their wrists is a device called an Agiel. This is capable of bringing whoever is touched by it tremendous pain. If used properly, it can stop a person’s heart with a mere twist. Mordsiths were created to capture those that had magic, when a wizard or sorcerous casts magic at them, they in turn use that magic to trap the castor. Once in the grip of a Mordsith, you cannot escape. This is a mute point.

Mud People are a native tribe that lives in the Midlands which Richard and Kahlan meet during their journeys. The Mud People can be described as the traditional tribal aspect of a novel. They are simple people who have a connection to the spirits. They are great allies of Richard and his cause. They are loyal and great hunters and fighters. Very strong, though they themselves don’t have the same magic as a wizard might.

Sisters of the Light and Dark are those that serve either God, or their definition of an omnipotent being, only termed as HE, or serve the Dark Underlord. He Who Must Not Be Named. He has a name, but for the life of me, I can’t think of it at this moment. Sisters of the Dark served the underworld and Sisters of the light serve God. They do not hold the same beliefs as the New World (Midlands, Westland, D’Hara) in terms of having spirits and many gods.
Sisters of the Light use only the additive side of magic. That is, they can only add to or manipulate things which are already there. Sisters of the Dark can use both Additive and Subtractive magic. Subtractive Magic is the opposite of Additive, it is the magic of the Underworld and so only Sister’s of the Dark and Richard can use it.

Richard is what is called a War Wizard, you’ll find out more about this as the story progresses, he is the only person to be born with the gift of both sides of magic in a really long time. The sisters of the Dark don’t count as they gained their Subtractive magic through murder.

To make it a little clearer for those that know the story, I’m taking it from the point that Richard has become Lord Rahl, met and now commands Cara, met and despises the Sisters of the Dark and Light, but doesn’t yet know of the threat that Jagang poses. Darken is foremost in his mind at the moment as he’s come back to haunt his son, so to speak…

This thread is set up to be fun with those that always wanted to play around with Goodkind’s characters and those that wish to have fun in a good rp. You don’t have to stick with the books if you don’t want to, just let the story evolve in any direction it wants to go. I only really wanted to rp something in Goodkind’s world with his major players and whoever decides to jump in.

Sorry Damaged Goods if this was a little long, but I anticipated some other questions that may have arose from the others. If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to ask. If we get this thing off the ground, it could be very fun.

And don’t worry, I’m really only new to rping myself. Only been doing it for a couple of months, I was pretty lost myself when I first started out, but the people here are really nice, so don’t hesitate to ask about anything. Any concerns, feel free to PM me…

Hi! *bubbles* lol. I was glad and surprised to see this on here. I *love* Terry's Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, read them all in just a few days. I don't know anyone else who had (especially since they're like 900-1000 pages each, which can deter people, I know), so discussion proved to be very confusing and stilted. Now you're doing an rpg on it! Awesome! I've done about a hundred RPG's before but never something like this. I'd love to join. Of course, I haven't read the series in years, so I may get stuck, but oh well, lol.

I'd want to play someone with power, so I was thinking a Sister of the Light (they're not like nuns, are they? lol), a rogue sister perhaps or half-sister, lol, but not a dark one. Does that make any sense? A girl that was partially trained, though imbued with power, but lost to the other sisters, left to fend for herself. Or perhaps another Confessor, a young one who'd somehow managed to escape, though weakened and hanging on to life by a thread, who'd slowly healed only to find (so she thought) that she was the only one left. But then along her journey (to whereever for whatever purpose, I'll iron out details, history, etc. later), she runs in to Kahlan. Or if those options don't pan out, just a normal not-so-ordinary girl with magickal powers she can't explain or control searching for answers.

What do you think?

I'm new to this, but I'm interested in this game, however, I'm going to need time to develop a character. I was actually a little surprised when I saw this tread. I love Terry Goodkind's novels and I can't wait until Phantom comes out.

Sword of Truth

Very interesting concept! I love it. Somehow, I can't see myself as anyone but "Chase"...he sort of fits my personality such as it is.

Please keep me posted on the progress of this endeavor...I'd really be interested even though I've never really done anything like this in the past.

I too have read ALL the SoT books, and am just now starting on the last one. I find Goodkind to be an exceptional writer in that this is the first book of this kind where the characters act like real people, and have the same faults and desires of real people! I'm very impressed with his writing style.

Was so interested in what you posted i had created an account just so i could reply. :)

Well for starters i think that it is a fabulous idea, and i have yet to find many fans of the Sot series. I try to get my friends to read the series but they can barely even touch the Wheel Of Time series. They are not the reading type. So its just a breath of fresh air to read the posts about an RP based on Goodkinds world. The odd thing i found was that you seem to want to use the main characters of the series. Usually RP's tend to stay away from the main characters and just play in the world in a certain period of time that is chosen from the series. It may happen where the made up characters come face to face or just see from a far a main character or two but rarely play the main characters. But i also feel where you are coming from. Reading a series that is so in depth how can you not feel like playing a main character. I sure have at one time or another wanted to be adventuring like Richard Cypher and learn of a destiny i did not believe in. I wanted to rush recklessly into harms away and come out victories like Chase. Or even once wanted to be the sick, and evil conniving Darken Rahl.

I feel that i may want to participate in this little adventure. If i don't end up creating or playing a character, at the very least I'll be reading. One question though, at what period in the series does this take place? It needs to be addressed so we know what to expect in the world. I'm guessing the barriers are down. Darken Rahl is dead, but is it before or after he plotted from the grave? How is the fight with the old world progressing? Has he met his sister yet? etc..

Guess that was more than one question. :D Just trying to envision the scene that will fall before me. Hope this catches on, i can't wait to read more.

Well... *cracks knuckles*
First of all, I would love to thank all those that have an interest in this thread, I idly thought of dropping it, seeing as nobody was interested in it for about a month. Oh and sorry it took so long for me to reply, I was a away for a while unexpectedly.

I am a great fan of Goodkind and i'm glad i've found some others that are as well.

Darkphoenix1: a partially trained sister would be excellent, actually all of your character ideas are excellent. Just choose one, of either alliance and post a bio on here. We'll take it from there!

KlassAcct9: I would welcome you aboard should you choose to join eventually. Chase is a great character, and if you think you could do him justice, then be my guest.

Idle-Brain: Thankyou so much :D It was an honour to hear that you had to create an account! In answer to those questions... You don't have to be a main character, you can make up your own character, however I believe that Goodkind has written his characters so well that I can at least try to emulate his characters. I have no problem with using main characters as long as they don't stray from their abstractions... like Cara suddenly becoming a Sister of the Dark, or having powers like the Sliph. If you can do it well, why not?
Yes the barriers are down, Richard has found out he is a War Wizard and Darken Rahl's son. The barriers between the Old World and the New World have only just been broken. Jagang has declared war, but i'll leave it at that. He hasn't met his sister. If I could hazard at putting a rough time frame on this, I would say just before "Faith of the Fallen".

If anyone has anymore questions, then just ask or PM me.
Thanks for the interest and I hope we can create some bios and start this thing up soon!

Please read the link to the IC thread to see the beginning setting...

Awesome! Here's my bio:

Name: Sukumara [soo-koo-mar-ah]
Age: 18
Position: Half-sister of the light, lol
Character: Puts up a front of bravery even through her confusion and fear, has no idea what she's capable most of the time and constantly fights a battle inside herself between good and evil, since caught but not fully corrupted by sisters of the dark. She'd barely been told who and what she was and recieved training when the attack occured. Very strong, mentally as well as physically, and capable.
Description:
- Height: 5'7''
- Weight: 130lbs
- Build: pale-skinned, sleek and soft though athletic and a finely tuned machine, very strong physically, muscles developed, but her strength is one you would not notice until she directs it at you. Subconciouslyshe wears a constant aura of power.
- Hair: Long, inky black hair falling almost to her waist
- Eyes: A striking electric blue
- Other: has symbols of fearlessness, power and eternity tattooed on her back, upper arms, above her hip, breast and ankle in celtic, egyptian, greek and asian though very tasteful.

Bio: Her name means "Good Goddess" (sometimes ironically), as in, 'Beautiful Kumari Goddess' in Ancient Sanskript, around where/when she originates. The most fearless girl was chosen as the 'Divine Kumari', grows up in Temple worshipped as the living Goddess herself. Her name, Kumari, translates literally as "Bachelorette", for she's too holy to marry, but she's always forged her own path and scorned the scriptures.

Born in a small village (we can make up one later) not far from the border, she was raised their by poor but loving parents (though not quite fitting in) until she was thirteen, a tender age- when the queen herself took special interest in this strange, too-wise-for-her-age child after she became friends with the young prince. And against her wishes she was given up by her parents to the palace. She stayed there three years, feeling like she wasn't much more than a prisoner, before she ran away- to be found then by the sisters of the light, who had been searching for her but unable to find her under the guise of magic she'd been living in. To them her path was clear... to become one of them.

And she thought she'd finally found 'home', two years later, when everything was disruppted once more. She was fully imbued with power, but lost to the other sisters, left to fend for herself when their was an attack of the fortes of the Sisters of the Light by the dark ones and she was taken, barely escaping alive and with her sanity.

****************

How's that? I probably need to work on it a bit more, but I'm short on time and just wanted to put the bulk of it out there.

Welcome aboard Phoenix!!

Fantastic character,
I cant wait for your first post!

Ohh. Terry Goodkind RP....
*Drools...*

Must join.
Character?
Gah!

Wait, this is obvious at a point in a an alternate reality where Rhal's minions have not been wiped out?

Dare I join as a Mord-Sith trainer? A character type not gone into detail about that I can manipulate for my own purposes?

They have and they haven't. Richard is in control and D'Hara is once again an 'Empire'. The boxes of Orden though are still trapped in the Garden of Life and now so is Richard... with the spirit of Darken.

You could become a trainer, but Richard has declared that no more Mordsith are to be trained... so, your a trainer out of work if you want that character...

Post your bio here and we'll see if it fits into the story. Thank so much for the interest.

Character...

Out of his old job, maybe. But never underestimate the power of a man who broke and molded young Mord-Sith into what they are today.

Saying that, I feel obligated to make a character that can whip a Mord-Sith's ass in combat, because he has none of their fancy powers in return. See there? Balancing out my strengths with flaws.

Name: Das'nath (Daz-Nothe)
Age: 34
Hair: Blond
Eyes: Blue
Alliegance: Richard Rahl, Lord of D'Hara, War Wizard, Seeker of Truth, Kicker of Ass.
Weapons: Two daggers, both with the ornate R of the House of Rahl.
Skills: Torture, acute knowledge of the human body, Master of hand-to-hand combat, and melee combat with daggers.

Bio: Das'nath was chosen to train Mord-Sith. To break a young girl three times, and push her into an Abyss of sadism. Das'nath was one of, if not the best at what he did. He knew the human body, and taught torture with a cold apathy for human life that none could match. Few knew his coldness was not because he didn't care for his victims, but didn't care for his job. He seperated himself from his work, living under an unbearable guilt that came from his duty.

Das'nath was estatic when Richard took over. He is completely loyal to the new Lord Rahl, and gladly gave up his position as Trainer, helping to convince the others to do the same, with force. Das'nath's cold exterior has broken since he gained a Lord Rahl he could believe in. Das'nath is a physical force to be reconed with, and still holds much of the authority he had as a Trainer to Mord-Sith, after busting the skulls of a few ex-students seeking out revenge. Although still violent, and tending to overuse his skills when provoked, Das'nath has made a rather easy transition into his new life, helping to train soldiers, mostly of the First File, to improve in combat techniques.

Das'nath walks with a limp, several years ago a rather unruly student managed to permanently damage his left leg, but he makes do. Most D'Harans simply refer to him as "Master Das"

Appearance: Das'nath is pure D'Haran blood, and so is blond, blue-eyed, tall, tanned, and muscular. He wears brown slacks, heavy brown leather boots, a thick belt which he keeps daggers proudly displayed on, and a long-sleeved white shirt with an open brown leather vest. He keeps his hair cut short. He keeps a neutral expression on his face at most times.

Personal Motto: "The pain in the eyes of my former victims will haunt me forever."

Good Charry!!
Welcome GM!!

Just keep in mind that all Mordsith are in allegiance with Richard now... so no Mordsith ass-kicking especially for my Cara!! hehe...

He mostly trains those who protect the Lord Rahl. He's in no condition to be running around after a young Conquerer, you know.

And as for Mord-Sith ass-kicking, he's only done that for those Mord-Sith who thought they'd pay him back.

And he might "Teach you a lesson" every now and then, but he probably won't kick your ass,...unless you ask him too.
