I would like to propose a thread where four people meet on a cruise ship, two men and two women. Each writer will make 3 posts, establishing their characters. This is a singles cruise and the three characters wouldn’t know each other at the onset. The last of the three posts should put the characters at the same dinner table. That’s when the fun begins. The writers will switch characters. Each writer will get a chance to post as all the other characters on a rotating basis. The challenge lies in trying to take on the style of each writer.

This is not an original idea of mine. I participated in a thread like this some months back and the originator was a writer named Xantham, one of the most creative people I’ve ever worked with. It was a lot of fun as well as challenging.

If you are interested, post a character description here. The more detailed you can make it the better because it will become a reference for the other writers. Include a physical description, basic history, personality traits and flaws, and sexual proclivities.

Caspai has agreed to take on the other female part. We still need the two men though. :)

If there's room, count me in for one of them! I'll post a description soon.

Well sounds very interesting. I am working on a character, but it may be a bit as I'm off to work soon. If there is another interested before I get my description posted carry on without me. I don't want to hold up the process.

Ok, so we have our four players. Welcome, Captain and BigDawg. Caspai should be along shortly. Take your time, Dawg.

The biggest problem with the original version of this thread was a posting schedule that was too rigorous. We posted every day, Monday through Friday. I'm going to ask for a commitment of three posts a week, Mon (Tues), Weds (Thurs), Fri (Sat). In other words, you'll have two days to post. If for some reason, you can't post, just let me know and I'll assign the post to another writer if it's crucial to the story. And if three posts a week gets to be too much, we'll cut it down to two.

I'll post the schedule after everyone gets their character descriptions up.

Robert Shamus McTiernen
(Thick Scottish accent)
Me name is Robert. I'm a Scot, a highlander to be quite proper about, and if ye don't like it? Thas tough now aint it. Cause its you I am. I stand bout 2 meters or 6'0" feet tall for ye Americans. My head is a fire with me curly red hair, that wraps down me face in a thick beard. Me eyes a sky blue. I'm strong, won the caber toss two years runnin. Thas the telephone pole ye dolt. An like ever good Scot I can drank with the best of em.
Scotch whiskey or ale, it doesn't matter to me as long as the lass is full. Although I got to say there's nothin quite like a pint of stout after whippen up on some aenglish in a rugby match. An no, I don't wear nothin under me kilt. I won the darts contest at The Three Feathers Pub in town an got this cruise as a prize. I don know what to expect, but I'm prayin to the saints for some lovely Yankee lasses.

Oh BTW I will be on a business trip to DC Wed, Thur, and Friday next week but can catch up on Saturday. Thanks again for letting participate!

Kyle Murphy. Age 32. 6’1”, 205 lbs. Dark brown hair, prefers sweaters or wool shirts.

Kyle is a world adventurer: mountain climber, river explorer, safari photographer, Antarctic trekker, trans-Atlantic balloon soloist, yacht racer... he seemingly has the world at his feet. But in all of that, he still is searching for more. All of these adventures have found him in the company of men. True, there was never a shortage of women who approached him. But they just wanted to get next to the mystique, the myth, to become part of the legend. None had made the effort to know him] beyond the biblical sense. Eventually he stopped trying, it just got boring. He looked at himself in the mirror recently and realized that he hadn’t been in the company of a woman he gave a damn about for a couple of years. A singles cruise wouldn’t necessarily provide the answers he needed, but if he was going to meet someone for real, it was as good a place as any to start. The people here would be out of his normal circle and might not know him, so he could work on making a fresh first impression, unencumbered by the baggage of his exploits.

Robert sounds like a lot of fun, Dawg. So do you as a matter of fact. Does this mean we will all have to practice writing dialogue with a Scottish brogue? I can’t wait. Thanks for telling us about your trip. I’m happy to write with you.

My character, Amy Tanner, has always wanted to see something of the world and at 29 years old, she feels she had better get started. A born and bred Midwestern girl, this is the first time she has left her home state of Ohio, baring those summer trips to Michigan when she was a kid. Physically, she has a knock-out hour glass figure, perfectly proportioned to her petite 5’4” frame, although you would never be able to tell. Amy wears clothes that are sensible but shapeless, hiding her assets from the casual observer. She has strawberry blond hair and bright blue eyes. Doesn’t wear a scrap of make-up and doesn’t need to. She is pretty without it although she would be stunning if she did. Amy is shy and reserved around people she doesn’t know, but she has a heart of gold and truly likes people. No one could be a better friend. That’s probably one of the reasons she’s both excited and terrified about this cruise. It will give her a chance to meet all sorts of new people even if that scares her a little. She loves her job as a nurse but has always harbored dreams of becoming an artist. Sexually, she’s relatively inexperienced although very curious. Amy keeps a well-worn copy of The Pearl under her bed at home and she loves the racy stories.

Captain, you posted right after I did. Fascinating character sketch you've drawn. I'm going to enjoy playing with him and you.

Veronica Billingsly

Sorry about the delay in posting this, folks.
My character is going to be Veronica Billingsly. She is rich, spoiled, and has a nice trust fund that cushions her from most of the realities of everyday life. As a result, she doesn't really feel much thrill out of life unless she is taking risks. She is 24 years old, and has done all of the athletically risky things you would expect, rock climbing, heliskiing, base jumping, etc. Because of her extreme athletics, she has never been interested in drugs, though she does tend to drink too much at times, which in turn loosens what inhibitions she may still have had.

In her brief life, she has already had too many relationships to count. She can't remember them all, and her father can't forget any of them. While her fathers discomfort has never been the deciding factor in her relationship choices, it didn't hurt, either. She has never discriminated in relationships, be the person rich or poor, man or woman. Her father wishes that she had more discretion. Her attitude is that, with enough money, it shouln't matter what people think about you. Basically, she is a self-centered, spoiled bitch. She doesn't mean to be, it just doesn't occur to her to think about anyone but herself.

She has been sent on this cruise by her father to get her away from a relationship with an Italian fortune hunter he feared she was truly in love with. She wasn't, but if he wanted to pay for her to play, that was fine with her. She had gotten bored with the Italian, anyway, and he had started assuming too many things about the money she spent on him. She didn't mind spending money, as long as the recipient didn't start assuming that it would happen.

Her physical characteristics are that she is 5'6", and has long, naturally curly honey blonde hair. Slender and very athletic. Her eyes are chocolate brown.

Cas, she's wonderful. In a bitchy sort of way. She's going to be delicious to write.

Ok, I'll start the actual thread tonight. Three initial posts as your character. Last one puts you at the dinner table. Then we rotate. I will post the schedule here.
