The sun was shining brightly on the eastern horizon when the chartered pleasure boat, "Vida Encantada", sailed from the port at Ensenada, Mexico with twelve people aboard. It would take approximately four days and five nights to reach their destination -- Honolulu, Hawaii.

Late on the fourth day, angry clouds began to froth like breakers in the sky as a predatory wind irrupted, lashing the Vida Encantada with spray as it churned the serene Pacific into hawkishly violent peaks. The vessel was plunged across troughs of towering waves and yanked sideward up the next ragged and vicious slope, coming down as if it meant to bury its prow in the bottom.

Alert to the danger, the Captain reassured his passengers and changed course, thinking to ride the fringe of storm. What he hadn't foreseen was that the Vida Encantada was running right into the intersecting paths of two storms crowding together and a monstrous hurricane was crouching directly in their path.

At least that's what it looked like. Nothing was showing on the weather radar. Nothing was showing anywhere. Even the engines had stopped functioning.

"May Day! May Day!" He screamed frantically into the seemingly dead radio hoping that someone -- anyone -- would hear and come. Suddenly, a metal screech, like a giant's fingernails on a chalkboard, as the hull scraped bottom and was breached, reverberated throughout the small ship. It was near dawn when the Vida Encantada began to list...

The surviving passengers and crew of the Vida Encantada have just unknowingly taken a journey in time, as well as space. They are marooned forever on the Island of Oahu, stranded by the Pacific and over years of time, long before civilization rooted itself in the Hawaiian Islands (ie pre-discovery); a time and place where modern civilization as they knew it is no more. Is a very primitive way of life now to be the norm for them all?

You are completely alone with your companions -- without any hope of rescue or escape. How will you survive? How will you organize yourselves? Who is in charge? What will happen to you? How resourceful will you be?

WELCOME TO YOUR NEW WAY OF LIFE... FOREVER!!

Shipwrecked!!

Messalina Bishop

She had been named for one of the "uppity wimmin of herstory" -- as her father liked to say. Never quite living up to the reputation of the wife of the Emperor Claudius of Rome, Messalina Bishop had had a wild youth but finally settled down in her twenties and hit the books (much to her parents' relief) -- ultimately earning a doctorate in Art History/Classical Archaeology and a minor in cultural anthropology.

EDUCATION:

Phd. in Art History/Classical Archaeology from the University of Virginia
Masters from Rice University; Summa Cum Laude.
BA in Ancient Studies from Barnard College, Columbia University; Cum Laude.

***

Messalina, needing a break, and with a passel of things on her mind has decided to take a personal trip to Mexico and then to Hawaii to get her personal stuff together. From there, she'll take a flight to what she believes is her ultimate destination: The South Island of New Zealand and a possible Class IV pa site funded by someone in the private sector through the auspices of the Te Awamutu Museum. What had caught her attention, though, was that it was on the west side of the island where none to date had ever been excavated.

Karen Walker

Karen Walker, a recently divorced woman, had married her high school sweetheart only to be tossed aside for a younger version of herself, 10 years later. Taking the trip to Mexico, followed by the trip to Hawaii had been her way of letting go of the past and making a start at a new life.

The recent betrayel of her husband, followed by the nasty divorce, had left her drained not only physically, but emotionally as well. She had loved Chris since they had shared their first kiss. Each one of them had been secretly liking the other all through grade school, and when their bodies began to change, it was only natural that they turn to each other. Each one wanting to explore the new emotions they were discovering.

Now looking back over the last 4 years of her 10 year marriage, Karen can see the signs of his adultry. He was never obvious as far as the usual things, no late nights at the office, no unexpected trips. What she had ignored, but now saw, was how his attitude changed. He had gone from a bitter man, to a new person, the man she had fallen in love with before his father had died and left the family oil business in his hands. Karen understands now what happened, she had become his trophy wife, beautiful, slim, long flowing auburn hair. She had everything that any man would want, yet Chris had wanted more. He had wanted the trophy wife and the mistress on the side.

Karen, single at the age of 28, begins a new life. One that she is determined that no man will have a chance to chisel his way into her heart. With each hurtful word that fell from Chris's mouth another brick was built around her. She knew that to love again, would be more risk then she was willing to take. The Trip to Mexico was her new beginning and when she returned home to her ranch, she would work hard at making sure she bred the finest Arabians in all of Texas.

Captain Jake

Jacob "Jolly" Rogers, captain of the Vida Encantada. 32, sunbleached and tan.

Jake has worked the tourist trade in one way or another most of his life. He's not afraid of running a smaller craft out into the open ocean, but isn't a risk taker when his passengers are at stake. This run is his fifth on the Hawaii circuit. An experienced sailor, he trusts his instincts as much as he does the fancy equipment on board.

His job hasn't allowed for much in the way of relationships, especially when the standing company policy is leave early if the passengers are ready. Besides, when he gets back from a run, he's usually fairly stressed by the number of weird requests from the tourists. So, for the most part, his social life in the past has been brief encounters, or short term dating.

Not one to dwell upon the past, he's a "Work the problem, keep the customer happy, never let them see you sweat" type of person.

Ben Silver

Ben Silver was on yet another adventure. The middle aged owner of his own engineering firm, Ben never stopped living life to the fullest. Growing up in Texas, he spent his free time in the great outdoors exploring all Mother Nature had to offer. Hunting and fishing, camping and hiking, Ben learned to respect the laws of nature. He learned the outdoors can be your friend and provider or your worst nightmare. There were few surprises. If you were surprised, it was because you were unprepared or unobservant or both.

He managed to finish college in three years with a degree in mechanical engineering while still finding time to drink like a fraternity brother, chase women and explore the world around him on weekends. During his senior year, he met the woman that would become his wife. They married soon after graduation and she quit school to help build their dream house before they began having kids and starting a family.

Three years later, Ben left the well paying engineering firm that hired him out of school and started his own design consulting business. The business was immediately successful. Ben and his wife raised two wonderful children, each heading off to college before his wife informed him that she no longer loved him. No sooner had she moved out of the house than she was seen around town with a well to do lawyer. It was clear to everyone, including Ben that she thought she could do better. With his kids grown and out of the house, Ben turned to work during the week and adventures on the weekends to ease the pain of his loss. The passion he once felt for his wife gave way to bitterness. In high adventures, Ben found a way to channel his passion to a lust for life.

Refusing to become bitter or hardened, Ben, now forty two, decided to explore the world. His business practically ran itself and afforded him the financial freedom to take off for weeks at a time as he began pushing the limits of his own imagination. One of the young engineers at his office told Ben about his own trip to Hawaii on his recent honeymoon. He brought back breathtaking photos of a land unspoiled. A land full of adventure and countless opportunities to explore. He chose a trip that would begin with a flight to Mexico where he would take a charter boat to Oahu before heading out on foot into the jungle on an ascent of Diamond Head.

S&E

Hey guys. Playing a somewhat different role in this one.

Name: Alan Davis
Age: 26
Position: Junior Partner at Bligh, Terrence and Arnold

Background: When Alan graduated in the the top 5% of his law class at Harvard nobody was surprised, but when the Montana farmboy had first declared that he was going to college, studying law and not taking over the farm it caused something of a shock initially.

When he first got to BT&A he tore into cases like a buzzsaw, pleabargaining case after case. After a week in which he succesfully took and cleared 5 cases a day to the satisfaction of all clients, Mr Bligh (one of three Senior Partners) called him out for dinner.

At that dinner, accompanied by Blighs PA. Alan took the offered partnership, commiting himself to BT&A for five years in return. Within 6 months he had a good corner office, a great car and apartment and was dating the PA.

It looked like the American Dream had personified into one man. He had everything even marrying his girlfriend, but increasingly he found it less satisfying. Tearing into his work, he disposed of case after case, but he no longer even saw the people he was working for. Eventually he lost all his private clients to other lawyers in the firm, but had made so many corporate or business contacts that his workload remained unchanged.

By this time the midpoint of his 5 year contract was coming up, and the partners were seriously worried about him burning out. He'd slept with one of the secretaries (a 'secret' she had made little attempt to keep) and his relationship with his wife was at a low ebb. Finally Mr Bligh packed the pair of them off to Mexico on a company arranged holiday, in the hopes of getting the man they wanted to make a full partner back at the end of it.

Okay - see you on the beach! ;)

I'll be along by and by

Just wanted to check-in and confirm my participation. Been laid up with a sprained ankle since last Saturday and couldn't get at my desk.

Hello to those I haven't written with, and to those I have. Maid, I'll get my character up this weekend. As S&E said, we're bringing back our characters from the other thread.

:rose:

Sheesh, Kit! Hope your ankle is doing better.

Just waiting for everyone to introduce themselves and we'll be good to go. Looking forward... :D

Bess Campbell added this for background :)

Bess Campbell liked her lifestyle. She had been born and raised in San Diego, California and had been grown up on the docks of the Naval facility. Her father, a career navy man who had never wanted to go higher than the level of chief, has spent most of his time out to sea. Bess's mother had been a civilian secretary working on the base. This meant that they could live in naval housing and use the px.

Bess's father had bought a small motorboat and Bess used it to tool around the harbor, hanging around the marina docks and listening to the old tars talk. When she was sixteen she began spending her summers working on one of the whale watching charter boats. She handed out drinks, gave background on the California Gray Whales, pointed out the sea lions that hung around the buoys, took care of the seasick passengers, etc. Bess loved being on the water and found that for the most part, she could keep the passengers occupied.

Bess had been a decent student in high school and had an interest in anything to do with the ocean. She had started college with the goal of becoming an oceanographer but decided there were too many indoor classes that interferred with her time on the water. So she had dropped out much to her mother's dismay, going to work for one of the charter boats that gave her full time work and kept her busy.

She dated now and then, usually someone that worked on the docks, nothing special but dinner or movies now and then. With her brown hair kept short, and her fine features, she was often described as cute or pixie like. Her eyes were her best feature, a mixture of brown and green which showed her emotions and thoughts easily. She had learned early on to wear a cap when she played poker with the guys on the dock.

The boats often did charters down to Cabo or Ensenada and Bess had enjoyed the laid back lifestyle of the people that lived there. While her Spanish wasn't great, more "Border Mex" than actual Spanish, she could communicate the basics. And since both towns were tourist havens most of the shopkeepers spoke English. She had met Jake Rogers on one of her trips and liked him. He had the laidback attitude of the population, a reputation for being a great captain and he was charming. They had gotten to know each other and he had jokingly said she should come join him if she ever got tired of San Diego. She had laughingly agreed. Whenever their charter boats were both in the harbor at the same time, they had gotten together. Their friendship had grown and while both were single, their relationship had stayed on a close friends level and never gone beyond, the "spark" never really happening.

When she turned 23, her father had retired and her parents had moved to Hawaii. While Bess had been employed full time for several years, the salary wasn't enough to afford civilian housing in San Diego. It was, however, enough if she lived in Mexico. So, Bess took her few belongings, caught the charter to Ensensada, showed up on the deck of the Vida Encantada, and had been working with Jake ever since. Her parents had given her a small loan, which she used to purchase a small houseboat. She tied it up not far from the charter boat docks and had been living on the water ever since.

She was really glad when Jake had started the Hawaii runs because it gave her a chance to see her folks. Her parents had long gotten used to the fact that what Bess did made her happy. They liked Jake and often had him over to their house when the boat was in port.

But right now Bess wasn't happy, she was angry.

Hello Kit... nice to meet you. I'm Red, ignore my post count... I'm still new :D I look forward to writing with everyone. :) :rose:

Elizabeth Davis

Name: Elizabeth Davis
Age: 25
Position: Bligh's PA. (See Steiner's post for more explaination)
Appearance: Blue green eyes, the old spark

Working for Bligh has its ups and downs but the pay is good and deep down Liz (as her friends and loved ones call her) loves the job. Her boss loves her and would do anything for her.

She met her husband while on the job and although she resisted, she soon fell for him. They're both busy people in their respective positions and seem to see each other and communicate more when they're at work, as opposed to home.

Many of their colleagues wonder why they married and lately Liz had been beginning to wonder too. So when Alan was virtually forced to take a vacation and Liz was told it would be best for her to join him, she felt it might be a good chance to figure it out.

My Thanks,

My thanks to Maid of Marvels, for happily answering questions and assisting me with creating a clearer mental image of the world we've landed in.

Thanks so much, love. It's greatly appreciated.

Sir Reginald R.H. Trowbridge, former British Intelligence, now primarily intoxicated. No american alcohol of any kind, except a quality sour mash, EVERYTHING else is fair game. *hic*

40, in shape (except for the drunkeness), rugged good-looks, knowledge of everything from explosives to piloting a helicopter. Utterly fearless, resourceful, highly intelligent and totally unreliable. He's got that ethereal and annoying, for those who don't have it, thing that the gals dig. His license to kill was revoked a decade ago but he can still be frighteningly ruthless, given the right scenario. If he thought it was necessary, he'd kill you without thinking twice.

Reggie is on the boat in a strictly recreational capacity. He has more than enough money to benefit his favorite charities and drink himself to death on the finest of alcohol. He travels and drinks and enjoys the company of beautiful women around the world. Whether he has to pay for their company or not.

I'm back, reprising my role from the first go round. Here's the bio I had for it.

Ali'i(Chief) Kawaihae
6'5
270lbs
Black hair
brown eyes
Native Hawaiian
27 years old

Bio: Ali'i Kawaihae is in his third year of rule over the large village of Kapa'a-he'o, a large and happy village on the island of Oahu. Since his being named Ali'i the village has grown and prospered and, as such, the king has granted Kawaihae more and more of the land of the island over which to rule. Much beloved by his people he is also greatly feared by his enemies, of which there are very few remaining, having either made peace with or destroyed many of them.

Kit Duvall:

She has a timeless face, but thinks she lacks that “certain something” that would set her apart in a crowd. Any number of men, and a few women, would disagree if asked. She keeps her blonde hair cut short; soft-fringed ends frame her face and draw attention to her blue eyes and generous mouth. At 40 she still has a good body, athletic, deeply tanned from outdoor activity.

After high school, academia had little interest for her; she spent 2 years in a community college but could never settle on a major. At the start of her third year Kit dropped out, deciding that there was a lot more to be learned in the world than on campus. Lacking the money for a purely recreational world tour she did what she thought was the next best thing, she joined the Army. The twenty years between that day and now were full of activity and adventure; new places, new faces, and enough challenge to keep her interested. Her last tour of duty finished up a few months ago and she retired confident that she’d really enjoy civilian life. It had taken less than two weeks before she was bored out of her mind.

Kit was on her way to a reunion, a group other military retirees getting together to “drink beer and swap lies,” as one laughingly put it. She traveled alone; she’d been traveling alone for months now and the longer the aloneness lasted the less it bothered her. That fact bothered her not at all.

The cruise from Mexico to Hawaii had passed without incident for Kit. When they reached the halfway mark under pleasant skies it seemed that their cruise was to be the kind that travel agents dream about. By the fourth day, Kit wondered if her dream trip was going to be a nightmare after all.

Hi ya Red! Its a pleasure. I always ignore the the post count, I like to believe that it isn't the size of the count that matters, its the quality of the post.
