OOC: New Schools for New Mutants!

Lucky you! Despite the seemingly shrinking number of people willing to post to the RP boards, Isolde and I have decided to risk yet another thread! If you're reading this, you are at least curious... please listen to our plan.

Basically, there will be two schools in the thread, each lead by a powerful mutant. (Marvel fans: yes, we are ripping off the original concepts from the early days of the New Mutants series) Isolde's school is run by Emma Frost, a ruthless person who feels that normal humans are the inferior species, and she is training her students for the inevitable war between humans and mutants. Her students are typically the 'bad guys', at least from a human perspective. They are not necessarily evil, but they are not taught to display much concern over the fate of non-mutants.

The other school is run by me, as Charles Xavier, Professor X. For those of you that have been living in a cave for the last few years, he is the same Professor X that founded the X-Men. His philosophy is that mutants and humans can, should, and must learn to live together. All of his students would be considered 'good guys', and are taught to respect and protect normal humans.

Character types: This one is intentionally wide open... pick a school, decide what your powers are, and go for it! All characters are supposed to be new to their powers, and really in need of training. They are young (18-20 years old). If someone really wants to be a teacher at either school, please email me or Isolde with your plans. She and I will be playing any true villains, if we need any.

Probable themes to be explored: Romeo & Juliet romances between the schools. Field trips. Competitions between the schools. Encounters between people away from supervision.

We are looking for original characters, but have no problem with people copying to whatever extent from published characters. Whatever you think you can have fun with.

Please post your characters here in the OOC, and get ready to begin. Unlike other threads we've started, this one will require no wait time to gather players. Some time today, we expect to get the start post up. Certainly by tomorrow. Initially, we will enrolling new students. The schools will be totally new to each character. In the future, if anyone wants to join, feel free! We can always have more students...

Character: Changeling Chans

My character conception is 'a' character driven beyond stress by 'her' powers, and the hatred they inspired in people as a kid. Back then there was nothing to make it look like 'she' had powers, but sufficient weird things happened around her that 'she' was loathed/abused physically and emotionally, and shut out. This confusion ended up giving 'her' a case of dissosciative identity disorder, such that 'she' now has six different personalities (including the core). The further her personality split, the greater the differences became between the persona's, not only in personality but in looks and powers. Now she has the following:

1: Cai
Cai is the core personality, the original person. She is 5feet 4inch tall, thin, bespectacled, 18, shy and insecure, reasonably skilled at first aid and running, no superpowers. She is present most of the time. Chinese-American, as with all the Changeling Chans.

2: Anh-Dao
Anh-Dao is a being of air, with control over air. She is a wise being in the system, who comes out in moments of confusion, she is, however, somewhat unemotional. She is tall (6'7") and slender. Being air, she has no coloration, per se, and rather takes the color of dust in the area which is swept up about the winds which make her body. If she wishes to, she can calm those winds, making her invisible. She is intangible - and so cannot touch or be touched by any physical effect. She can pass through cracks large enough to permit a draught, making it seems she is almost able to walk through walls. Her voice is soft, like the breeze - she cannot raise her voice. Her only way of interacting with the physical environment is control of air currents - this gives her potentially strong (localised force 5 tornado) power, able to affect a reasonably large area (full tornado/hurricane), but having absolutely no fine manipulation - even when it comes to moving small objects winds will interact with other things around them. As air, she can, of course, fly.

3: Ee-Wei
The earthen element of the Changeling Chans system is a short (4'8"), fat woman. She has very dark (almost obsidian) skin, and tufty hair. Her eyes are drab brown. This is a passive protective alter which comes out when Cai (or one of the others) feels deep fear. She is as hard as the earth, and able regenerate almost any damage she takes (can regenerate limbs, but not a fatal wound). She is slow, and clumsy, but incredibly strong. Ee-wei is like a young mother-figure, caring and sensitive and relatively reserved. She relatively unintelligent, and defers to others in decision making. She also has control over earth - not fine control/ability to animate it, but she can cause earth tremors/earthquakes, lava flows etc.


4: Wei-Fong
Wei-Fong is the water element of the Chans. She is of average height and build, and fairly beautiful - if you can ignore her blue-green skin and foam-white hair. Being a water-controlled person she is emotional, and can sense and control emotions in others. Indeed, it is high positive emotions (eg passion, love, hope), which Cai has denied herself that brings Wei-Fong out. Aside from her abilities with emotion, she is able to control water, any major water: in pipes, in puddles and lakes, in clouds, in oceans. This does extend to other water based liquids (ie she cannot control liquid mercury etc, as its not water), but does not allow her to control water such as in the blood vessels (not enough in one area to focus on). Relatively athletic, her most potent movement ability is, of course, swimming - she can swim better than any fish.

5: Fu

Fu is the only male alter in the system. He is an aggressive protector, built for speed and aggression. He has reddish-yellow skin and orange, is 6'2" and powerfully built. Fast, agile and strong, he is a great combatant, and more so as he is able to control fire. This translates to being able to cause anything flammable to combust, extinguishing flames, directing fire, and shooting fireballs. He can also project a flaming shield all around his body that moves with him - he is not, of course, harmed by flame. He appears when one of the Chans is enraged. He might be intelligent, but as he never stops during his berzerker rage, it's really quite hard to know. He cannot fly, but as with flame, can leap sometimes surprising distances from one thing to another with speed and agility.

6: Shen

The final alter, Shen, is, like Anh-Dao, made of the element she controls: in this case spirit. She has no physical, or visible form, and exists almost as a dream, able to pass through and interact with the minds of others as thoughts. She has the expected parapsychological abilities: telepathy, clairsentience, mind control, mind location etc. It should be noted that Shen, though the most powerful being in the Chan system acts as an inner self helper, and has so far only come forward when the Chan system is asleep.

Finally, it should be noted that in true dissosciative identity form, memory when switching between alters is highly flawed. While an alter will frequently come in with knowledge of why they came forward - other things to do with what they alter they replaced will generally be lost. Cai is trying to work on this by getting them to write in a diary, but they are only part way willing to do so.

OOC: Yes, I know that this is not the traditional 5 chinese elements, but rather the western ones.

I'll play Brad Hanks. Mutant name: Fallout.
Powers- I can gather energy and use it as projectile, I've got high fighting ability & speed, and if I lose my temper, strength and size increase by about 10, but I can't really control my powers when it happens.
I'm 6'3 195 lbs, black where the white in the eye is supposed to be, and white where the iris and pupil are.
A born mutant and very noticable because of eyes and increase of size when I get angry, also, recently turned 18.

BTW- Where do you guys get those little dolls under your names?

Changeling Chans' school

Oops, sorry. Hmm, at first I guess I had thought of being in the 'good' school, but thinking back on my character, the way she was abused because of her mutation - enough to give her DID - would prolly put her in the school of people who feel muties and normos couldn't live together, at least at first. That is, if, as schoolmarm, you would accept someone whose basic persona is shy/nervous and unpowered.

Rob was always a little smarter than the kids his age. At 4 years of age he could recite Shakespeare, At age 7 he had learned Latin, Greek and French, By the time he was 13 he had graduated from high school with honors, looking to go into any univeristy he desired. Then the headaches started, pounding headaches in which Rob saw strange flashes of light, light that seemed to have some pattern. These pounding, consuming headaches had him screaming in agony whenever one struck. Once, while doing some routine multi differential calculus he was struck by one again. His hand began to draw on the paper almost independently of his body. When he was done he looked at his math notebook to see technical schematics and chemical equations that looked much harder than anything he'd ever done. He contacted various specialists(Reed Richards, Stark Enterprises) to see if they could help him figure out what the diagrams were for with little luck. However when he visited Stark enterprises he was shown the armor manufacturing device that Stark used to make the War Machine suit. Once again the headache struck and Rob went to the machines. Again, in a trance like state he began to operate the machine. When he was done he had constructed a suit of armor, not resembling the previous Stark creations, but a light exoskeleton. After meeting with Professor X Rob discovered that he was a mutant, and that the flashes of inspiration were his power. They come fairly infrequently and their seems to be little pattern to what they tell him to construct. Once it could be a better plasma rifle, the next flash could have him building a more efficient food processor. After his 18th birthday(And graduation from M.I.T.) he moved into the Professors Academy and took up the name Hax.

His armor can fire energy beams and projects a kinetic energy field. Bullets, punches, bricks or what have you will simply knock Robbie back but do no harm to him at all.

(okay, here it is)

name: Galen Lucas, "Esper"

age: 18

appearance: 5'10". light brown hair. the irises of his eyes are white. he usually wears dark sunglasses to hide them.

powers: Galen is a powerful psychic. He seems to be able to acquire information without using his normal senses, and usually subconsciously. This manifests in clarivoyance, knowledge of events he never witnessed and places or things he has never seen, and telepathy, the ability to read the thoughts and emotions of others. The only drawback to this is his inability to control it. The majority of things he senses come to him subconsciously, and some are things he later wishes he didn't know. He has had this ability since age 13. Since then, his powers have continued to grow and develop. Another ability he has recently manifested is limited psychokinesis, and it's possible he has other abilities that have not yet manifested.

Ever since his powers first manifested, Galen has had very few close friends. Most people are scared away by his knowledge of things they didn't think anyone knew about them, or things they don't want anyone to know. Because of this, he had a very rough childhood. His parents tried to be supportive, but he knew that, on some level, they were ashamed of him. Galen has tried to suppress his powers, and has been unsuccessful. Realizing he couldn't ignore his abilities, but would have to learn to live with them, he recently enrolled in Professor Xavier's school.

Neale, I think you'll find that (at least initially), you and Isolde tend to draw many posters - and some good ones stick with you. Reason being (speaking for myself), you and she (?) are dang good writers. I watch out for names of people whose new threads/last postings I want to check and you, Isolde, Angie Girl, Destiny are among the ones I always look at. Heh, one day I'll be good enough that my new threads draw interest - write now I think I initiate things too much on the fringe

Abilities: Heightened senses, slight ability to heal and more than double the strength of the normal human at age and size.

At an early age Joseph had the rare ability to find people but he couldn't figure out why. His senses seemed to be heightened and sometimes it scared everyone around him, forcing him to be alone. He was always picked on as a small child because of what he could do but it wasn't until he hit puberty that his gift fully evolved. His senses seemed to go haywire, which caused him to go slightly mad and change form to that of a beast like creature. In one of his attacks he assaulted a police officer and was arrested only to escape and be found by Emma Frost who told him that she could help him and teach the people that had mistreated him.

James Tao

Black hair, Brown eyes, medium athletic build

A proficient martial artist, trained since youth, James always had an edge on his peers with speed and co-ordination. During a friendly competition against another dojo when he was 17, James was fighting an match with the staff when suddenly his staff suddenly became charged with kinetic energy, and exploded on impact with his opponent. His oppenent almost died, and James became an outcast with his friends, all afraid to deal with him, after his powers suddenly manifested. The only person who helped him was his xifu, who pointed him towards a place which he had heard of, the Charles Xavier school of excellence.

Leaving his parents and his family was the hardest thing. But James knew that staying where he was would not only endager the lives of those around him, but also those of the people close to him.

A well trained martial artist, James is fully dedicated to the cause of Charles Xavier. With him he now carries bags filled with small metal balls about an inch in diameter, which he charges with kinetic energy, and an extendable staff which can contain the kinetic energy and release it upon impact without being damaged.

Parasite

I know this isnt the typical 'hero' but I started him in the Genosha story line and I have several ideas for him, If the casting call isnt closed, I present Parasite...

Vincent
6'2 black hair/ violet eyes
lean and well musceled was raised to be a hunter.
Vincent is Invulnerable to a fault..he cannot get sick, hurt or wounded...he is a living parasite, his body just keeps on adapting. He feeds on mutant powers and can temporarily cancel them out or turn them off. If he goes to long without feeding he can feed off of the electrical impulses of a human brain but such feeding would surely kill the subject.

Vincent has no super strength and in truth isnt much in physical fight.So the invulnerability tends to just keep him alive. Vincent was torn by grief and anger of who he was and what he was...He has tried repeatedly to end his existence as he feels he is a blight on mankind a vampire.
Until Emma Frost Found Him and gave him a purpose.
