So I was thinking of something completely different. A thread set in New France (Quebec for the English) circa 1740's. Loosely based around the "Filles du Roy", daughters of the King. They where orphan girls of marriageable age sent to New France (Canada), who had to fine and marry within a year of their arrival. They then would receive a dowry from the King. This is also the period of King George's War between New England and Canada. Right now I see the following characters.

Male =

Young Canadian Officer returning from studying in Paris: = ariosto

Abenaki warrior (this is the most difficult role. You need to know some bits about their culture. You could PM me for that), = Me

and a captured Dutch Naval officer on parole at a country estate. = rashid

Female =

a "Fille du Roy" French, = Cathay

an American colonial girl waiting to be ransomed back, = MissVictoria,

and an Irish / Highland Scottish girl fled to France who's family is dead and know is also a 'Files du Roy". = Honey_B

Comments welcomed.

If intrested in any part please PM me

Thank you

Honey_B thank you for taking the role of the Irish / Highland Scottish girl. It is always fun to write with you.

Thinking about this one, sounds good.

For Miss V

This is for you original work by Robert Griffing

Abinaki

The French call me "L' ombre du Bois" the shadow of the woods, the Iroquois and Yankee have other names for me. I am respected by my people, a wise one so some say. One who the grandmothers listen to in council. The leader of my people in war. For none are bound to follow the warriors path as with the Yankee, or French except by there own choice or by the persuasiveness of my words. It is a heavy burden only made lighter by my sister, Talaz. Except for her I am alone.

Mathilde Haes

OOC: Mathilde Haes is a second generation descendant of grandparents who were New Netherland Dutch, settling in colonial Albany to make their money in the fur trade, and later established themselves as merchants. She is nineteen years old (and making her parents nervous by still being single, even though many new arriving immigrants seek her hand to become established within the community... her parents made the mistake of letting her have a choice.) She is a strong, hardworking girl, adept with a hunting knife. She is 5'6", with long light brown hair that is hidden behind a white cap, though her face is lovely.

Call tp Arms

We still need two staward adventures the Young French girl and the dashing English / American officer. Step forward for king and country and a new life in the Americas.

In 1741, Corinna Cheyne fled her native Ulster, changing her name to Chesney. She arrived in France with a crumpled advertisement secured in her belongings - An advertisement for women to settle in New France at the king's expense.

Les Filles du Roi, indeed.

Corinna carried little else with her. Just the basic necessities with two anacronisms, a broken locket secured safely in the bottom of her trunk and a small sack of gold. Blood money, but she had taken it anyway. It had been her blood after all.

Looks like a good concept

Hope that all goes well with this one, CG. It's one I'd like to keep up with ~

OOC...how about the young French girl Chele?

My character...

Julien Philipe de Duvenet.
Julien has returned to Quebec in some disgrace. His wealthy uncle the Comté had sponsored him to the Academie Militaire at Ste.Cyr but after only two years he has washed out. The temptations of the gaming tables and the fleshpots of Paris were too enticing for the young man. A hurridly purchased commission in the territorial marines was the best Uncle Bastien could do.
Jules father Charles( a hard working man of the soil in spite of his aristocratic lineage) wants him to join in the work of the enormous estate which he is carving from the wilderness but the young fellow is reluctant, he still dreams of greater things...

This portarit was painted in Paris with Julien in civilian attire as a present for his Papa.

OOC: You sneak, Ari! I would.....if only she didn't have to be French.

Sorry to "highjack" the thread, CG. Good luck with this one!

OOC

Chele of course you are forgiven for the "Hijacking". But you really should take a role. I would enjoy writing with you. Yes very selfish.

My name is Chantral Amelie DuJenes

A royal princess....first cousin to the heir apparent...tossed out here in this God-forsaken Americas.
How could my Uncle be so cruel! (beating my breast oh-so-
dramitically) I am after all 18. Old enough to marry...old enough to make my own decisions..so why wouldn't my once dear Uncle
let me make my choice at home in France? This place is so....
crude. (tiny little shudders) Pampered little princess, that is
what he said to me. And My grandmere ..to sit their silently. She did
not even beg Uncle Jean on my behalf. My sisters and I shall surely perish here. But I will show my once beloved uncle and ma petite grandmere! I will find someone
to marry, collect my dowry......and never go home and let him see
my children. Ever!! (And he can't make me) stamping my tiny little silk shod feet.

A new turn of events.

Two writers have asked to join this little group. And after much consideration I have agreed. I am not use to being in a Thread with so many characters. Yet I feel you all will help me to keep this little tale on track.

Enough of that! I'll let our new players introduce themselves.

A Charming native girl played by SexeyChele.

And

The Seigneur of the manor, ariosto's father "Charles" played by Swashbuckler.

We have many characters. It will be hard at times for readers to follow the story, or perhaps ourselves at times. However it does allow us more freedom to meet the necessities of life in the real world. Later on I shall have some more information on settings and the like.

Please is patient with me as I work to set the scene and some background arrangements that still have to be made. I think it will prove to be interesting for all.

My name is Talaz, a member of the Abenaki tribe. I have just reached the age of what the white man would call 18 years, and am skilled in the healing arts of my people. As with all of the women of my people, I am strong and self-reliant, yet I strive for peace and have high regard for the ways of my people. My name was given to me by the Jesuits, yet I do not accept the religion they preach, preferring the ways of my people instead.

The time is approaching where I must decide who among the warriors is to be my husband, but can find none whom I find suitable - all fall short when compared to my brother, who I respect deeply. It is unusual for the women of my people to be seen far from our villages, but I have a tendency to wander away looking for plants and herbs to use for my healing remedies.

Bravos to all whom have posted. Great descriptions and artwork. Really helps me to see this little band. Just two more and we should be ready to start.

I must now leave and prepare my own little story for the warrior and scheme to pull the last threads of the plot together that will set or band on the first steps of their journey.

Charles Stephan de Duvenet

Charles is stubborn and driven as his son Julien is inept and slothful. A second son to an aristocratic family, I traveled to New France to establish himself as a young man. In my life I have seen to the rise of a stately home where there were nothing, but wilderness. Perched on the fringe of the world, and someitmes beyond the reach of civilization. I have raised myself a fortune. My farms are prosperous, my mill provides timber for export to France. Now after a lifetime of labor, I thought I could relax and enjoy the odd brandy and a fine book, by the fire. How wrong I was.

My son, the disgrace, has been drummed out of the Academie Militarie. If it were not for my foolish brother purchasing his commision, he would be just another drunkard int he gutters of Paris by now. Some have said, that I have never fully forgave him for surviving his mother in his birth. That is insane! Julien, the reason my hair has started to streak with white, what have you done? If only I was not as soft on him, perhaps he would have learned the value of hos own labor. I shall not be as soft on him ever again.

News of the day

Our young Officer should be back from his travels in the R.W. and hopefully post.

Gentlemen the ladies know who they shall be perusing. In this little story. But a last you do not. Woe and win the ladies. A game as old as time. Let's have fun with it. In the contexts of time and place in our story.

Any cultural questions you need help with PM me.

OOC My name is Johannes van der Valk

Ten years before the mast and now, finally, a Captain with one hundred and twenty guns under my command. Until this morning. This unholy morning off the coast of New Amsterdam. Alone in a light wind with too much loot and not enough sail we were beset by three British vessels. One, we would surely have sunk. Two, we could hold our own, at least for a time. Three sent us to the bottom with a loss of all hands.

The late evening finds me washed ashore with only a small sack of gold guilders, the tattered uniform on my back and the weapon in my hand. Exhausted, I manage to find a shallow cave and crawl inside to sleep.
I will survive. I will find a new ship even if I have to steal it. I will avenge my crew. I will honor my King. The British may take our colony and destroy the trade we have built up so painstakingly, but they will never take our pride.

Before I sleep I use what's left of my doublett to bandage my thigh where a very rash and now dead, young British officer managed to slip past my guard long enough to leave a deep gash. Sleep - Deal with it in the morning. With luck I'll remain out of their hands long enough to manage a disguise. My french is passable and my english fairly well flawless from years in London as a child. I'll make do.

All players

Our story begins. Please include in the post subject line "The Filles du Roy" or
"The War Party? This should help readers and players with continuity.
Please introduce your Characters to the public in your first post.

Thank You All,

I already told CG this...

But wanted to let you, the players, know...

I'm looking forward to reading this thread..

I'm a huge fan of historical novels.. and your characters already have me pulled in..

So... enjoy yourselves! You have a captive audience. *grin*

*Ahem* A couple of things I'd like to put forward here....

1. Do we have a new female player? I welcome her heartily, but I, for one, know nothing about her character. She has seemingly appeared from nowhere. A description here in the OOC would be welcome so other players might know how to interact with her.

2. With the addition of a new female player, that puts the ratio of female to male roleplayers off - some one ain't gonna get "paired up", and that can lead to some one being left out of the action, as it were. Is there a search underway for a new male part?

3. CG, hon? You are seriously neglecting your role as Talaz's brother. We are supposed to be meeting at the estate today, I believe, yet you have left 3 roleplayers alone at the lodge awaiting you to become engaged for 3 days now. What's up? Too much swordplay with Swash? I don't mean to sound chiding, but if you want this thread to continue to work, you have too large a cast to try to let it run on its own. It will need your tender loving care - and attention - to make it work. I have posted around you, and invite Rashid and Miss Victoria to do the same. But we really need you there, CG.

And folks, let's not forget that we do have this OOC. (it was back on page 4) This provides a great opportunity to share information, plot lines, story development, etc. PMs are great, but if players feel confused or neglected, they will simply drop from the thread. Let's try to keep this alive, shall we?

Now....on with the game!
