Ok, now I've not created many threads before, and none have really gotten far, but I'm hoping that this one will prove interesting enough to at least go for a little while :cathappy:

The setting is Middle Earth, during the fifth age - the age of darkness. This version of Middle Earth has gone down a slightly different route to the regular timeline. Here, the Fellowship split and moved off in their different ways. Frodo and Sam travelled into Mordor, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas chased down the Uruks who had captured Merry and Pippin, and Gandalf the Grey gave way to Gandalf the White.

Time continued as it should for the next few days, and the remnants of the free Fellowship aided the men of Rohan move to the citadel of Helm's Deep as Gandalf saught out Eomer and his Riders.

The men of Rohan, locked away inside the refuge of Helm's Deep were confronted by an army of Uruks. However, this is where time went wrong. The Uruks attacked Helm's Deep, using their machines of war to scale and breach the walls. The men, aided by a small contingent of Elves, tried their best to hold off the Uruks. Unfortunatly, it was all in vain. On the morning of the day following the start of the siege, the heroes, and the remaining men rode out from the hold on what few horses remained. Gandalf had promised to arrive on that very morning and help break the siege. He did not arrive in time. By a quirk of fate, the men he was to take to Helm's Deep had taken an alternate route, and could not make it back so quickly.

Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and all of the defending men and elves were slain, and Gandalf, accompanied by Eomer's horsemen, fled.

This led to the men of Minis Tirith having to defend their city without the aid of the Rohirrim. Dennator's madness, coupled with the severe outnumbering of orc to man, resulted in a complete breakdown of order. Small contingents of men fled the city as orcs, trolls, and easterlings invaded the city, and as Dennathor burned himself and Faramir alive

The men of the world had been truly routed and the orc and uruk hords spread out, killing all they found.

However, there were still glimmers of hope for man, elf and dwarf. Supprisingly, Sauron became blinded by his victories, which allowed Frodo to slip by and destroy the One Ring and, with it, Sauron, leaving Mordor a blasted ruin of a land. Also, the last march of the Ents succeded in breaching the tower of Isenguard, and the elimination of Saruman.

Now the headquarters of the Free Alliance, it serves as the focal point of all the remaining Men, Elves and Dwarves.

******

Well, that's the background. Anyone who wants to sign up can play man elf or dwarf as new heroes are forged, and they attempt to free the lands they once called home from the ravaging, and now quite wild forces of the Orcs and Uruks - the men of the east have fled back to their lands

Now, the war had been going on for some time now, and I was going to set this RP about 150 - 200 years after the destruction of Sauron. It is in the early dage of the Gunpowder age - basically, dwarves and orcs have developed cannon with which to defend their cities. Handguns have not yet been developed. Elven magic is still in effect, and still has quite a large impact.

Urtur (High Flame) the Mad
Race: Elf (Feanoran Noldo to be percise)
Age: Born in the later part of the Age of Trees
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 134 lbs.
Hair: Silver
Eyes: Blue

History:

Urtur has a long and complex history over the many ages of Middle-Earth. Urtur was bore of a couple of proud Elves of Finwe's Noldor in the later part of the Age of Trees. Urtur seemed to have an innate gift with using magics and was even taught by the Valar (including Melkor, the later Morgoth and first Dark Lord).

Urtur went with Curufinwe (or most would call Feanor) when Finwe was killed and Melkor betrayed the Valar. Urtur's magics burned the poor Sindaran Elves of Aqualonde when they refused to turn over their ships. He aided the Noldor in their push for control and to seize the Silmarils from the hands of Morgoth. He helped to find the great Loreholds of Gondolin and so much more....

Unfortunately, in the Second Age, Urtur saw a chance to end one of Sauron's greatest minions. At the time, he was a Numenorian sorceror twisted by dark magics, but in the future, he would become to be known as the Witch-king of Angmar. Urtur being one of the most potent sorceror's of Middle-Earth and an Elf, underestimated him.

Urtur was defeated after a long duel, and it was a close battle. As a price for his ignorance, Urtur had a curse placed upon his mind by the fearsome Nazgul Lord. That Urtur's mind was to forever be shattered to show as an example to all others.

After that, Urtur would change randomly. One moment thinking he was in the Age of Trees. Others, he still thought he was within the second age within service to Gil-galad. Others, his mind would be fierce and hostile. And to whatever great magics have been done upon him, Urtur could not be healed by the hands of the greatest healers the Elves had available.

His greatest hope was to head back to the lands of Valinor. But sadly, with the spread of the forces of Darkness, the course between his then home at the Last Homely House, and the Grey Havens became blocked.

The Elves remaining in Rivendell took the High Pass over the Misty Mountains and made way for the Golden Wood. Eventually, they made their way to the halls of Isenguard. As once was Isenguard a great fortress of Gondor and the free people, so was it once more under the manning of the remaining Free People.

Urtur now occupies himself depending on the mindset he bears at the time. Sometimes practicing his magics, others working on a memoire, and sometimes just working on his own small, little experiments.

((Hope this sounds to your likings ;) ))

Hey, sounds good to me Lotharian! I *should* be putting up the IC thread sometime today when I have a free moment

I guess I get to be the resident Tolkien Geek? ;)

Anywho... does it sound like we'll be getting anyone else?

Oh, don't you mean FOURTH age? The Fifth Age would put us a LONG way from the War of the Ring. IE Like... 3000 years and the Elves would've already been there if things are as dire as you describe them?

Errrr, a-heh. Yeah. Fourth age. My mistake! Umm, and yeah, doesn't look like there's that many interested in this, but it's only been 1 day so far! Could get lucky :cathappy:

I'd love to play, but I'll need to think of a character. I should have one ready by tommorow afternoon though.

I also am a Tolkien Geek I guess, and have written on Tolkien boards and such, but I have to say this is so far out of whack I doubt I could write on this thread. Good luck and I hope it succeeds and I will be watching to see how it develops.

I would respectfully reserve the right to jump in later if it gets really interesting. Good luck.

I saw. I just want to see if we can get more people before continuing. Oh, and Harry, it's not really different from the Middle Earth universe at large. This is just the 'What if Evil Won?' scenario. Basically, take all your lore from Silmarillion and up to the first half of Two Towers. The rest of it is everything going sour for the Free People.

Oh, and LF, you may want to look a wee bit deeper into Tolkien lore because your character is going to be mighty lonely.... (very few Elven Children in the Third Age ;) )

yes i know hun but i figured i could set it up that maybe very few stayed behind to see how things would turn out for man sence things changed i thought it might make some sence.

Uhm... You really didn't read my post did you? :p

You know the thing about how the road to the Grey Havens was quickly filled by the huge amounts of orcs that were now allowed to breed and the facts the Elves really didn't have any kind of army left after Helm's Deep?

I just looked at a logical development of the Tolkien world if the Free People were defeated. The only ones with an army left are the Dwarves since the siege of Erebor would've still been broken and the Blue Mountains were pretty much unscathed.

Oh, and LF, please run that through a spell-checker! Egads woman! :p

Hey now, there can still be holdouts! And..and..and... It's just like it is cos I thaught it'd be interesting...

lol its ok hun he is right i'll go in and change her and make her human no big deal.

If you think that this will work best then i can change her over to this...

Idrial is a Human Warrior/Ranger.

She is 23 years old, Slender of build with long blonde hair pulled back into a tight braid with a simple circlet upon her brow. Her eyes are green in color; she is dressed studded leather armor.

For her weapon she uses a long bow for ranged combat and a scimitar for close combat. Her bow and quiver of arrows are over her shoulder across her back, and her sword is sheathed at her side.

She travels to the last remaining resistance to lend her skill in defense of mankind. She has a hawk friend called Rishka that travels at her side.

I say that it's a cool enough modification of your original Lady F

HMMM, one question since the battle before the white city went badly, are we to assume that the witch king in one form or another survived. If he did then he could lead his merry band of Nazguls against the free peoples and would in fact provide a focal point for the rather disorganized orcs and such.

I love playing the villain. Consider that and see what you think about that.

I suppose that a world turned upside down would be rather illogical.

I would love to play a character in this if that is okay:

Aramin
30
5' 11"
157lbs
Brown hair
Green eyes

Weapons: two shortswords and a small crossbow strapped to his side.

Aramin is a travelling warrior who usually goes around hiring himself out to the highest bidder so that he can either do his dirty work or helps people move through unfriendly areas. He has recently noticed how the lands that he used to know have been slowly but surely destroyed and that the people he used to know have fled. He now wants to know what is going on and wants to find people who can help him.

Yes, OnHarry. As Helm's Deep was taken, the Rohirrim were not able to participate in the battle of Minis Tirith. Therefore, the Witch King of Agmar was not destroyed. Although, with the abcense of Sauron, one must wonder how he had been affected...

And your character looks fine to me Angelus. Feel free to have him pop up at any stage!

Well, some studiers of Tolkien Lore feel that the Nazgul recieved their power and unlife from Sauron, thus why when Sauron died all the Nazgul vanished. The movie showed them getting hit by the firey erruption of Mount Doom, but that was a big innaccuracy, for in the books they merely vanished.

Also, why when Sauron was defeated before the Nazgul vanished until Sauron returned as 'The Necromancer' at his fortress in Greenwood the Great (which shortly thereafter, thanks to Sauron, became Mirkwood) at which point they once more surfaced.

The more you know!
