Okay, here's what I want to do-
I propose a thread where a group of mercenaries are hired to work together to rescue a kidnapped child. The kid was kidnapped from one gang lord by another in the large city of Fear's Bay, on the Pacific Coast. Our groups job- figure out the who and where the kid is and get her back, staying alive in the process.

Each person is allowed ONE and only one character. No "I've got ten people under my command and they all slap you" idiocisy. Not going to do it nor am I going to put up with it.
Can you tell a recent thread miffed me grately?

This is an invite thread only. Those not approved will be ignored, I'm not kidding. If you'd like to join, please send me a PM with a link to another ORP/SRP you've been part of so I can make sure your style won't clash with what I have in mind. Edited to add: if you've been here a while, please don't bother. I'm more concerned with the newer memebers of the ORP board. I apologise for sounding so terribly harsh before. It was uncalled for. But I don't want a thread where people leave within the first two pages because others force them to do leave or suicide thier own characters.

For characters, I'd like the typical:
Name:
Age:
Height:
Hair & Eyes color:
Brief Background:
Professional bio:
Strengths and Weaknesses:

Make sense?
Laters,
Vix

Huh...

You're really going to analyze our writing styles to see if we're good enough for the thread? That's pretty harsh. Especially considering it seems your thread concept is pretty loose, and has a lot of room for other people adding ideas.

Well, I think you might want to loosen up a little about the whole thing. There are some bad RPers, and you might've had a bad experience, but everyone deserves a chance, and with some good GMing you can stop people from doing stupid things and make people edit their posts... that's what I've always done. And sometimes it's good for people to control two characters at once, as sometimes it can be a lot of fun for everyone -- though more than that gets pretty unwieldy.

Just remember, you've got to attract players, not scare them away. ^_^;;

If you explain the background of the world and setting a little more, though, I might be interested in joining...

Jacobo, I'm sorry if my first post was a bit, okay way to harsh. I left a thread recently that got me rather miffed because of various reasons.
As for writing styles- I can understand someone being new to the ORP and am willing to work with that. But I don't want a complete "goat fuck" to quote another person here. I think that being polite in respect to the other characters and thier right to "live" in the thread is important.

As for more back ground, I would love to. For people who've read the Princess Meredith books by LK Hamilton this'll sound familiar.
Most of the population of this world is straight, nothing abnormal metaphycially human. Standard people and varieties, like our world.
The other small percent though are something different all together. The Faere live in this world, along with thier counter part creatures. The Faere (or however you choose to spell it) have certain levels of magical powers, special abilities, etc. One main power area and one main special ability. Like controlling water and being able to breath underwater would be a working set.
Try not to over balance things though- infanantly powerful beings are rather dull.
Our case specificallly:
There has been a falling out between two Mob groups. The Mirazolli family and the Alvarez family had once been close friends but the death of Paolo Mirazolli, son of the Mirazolli head boss, in a drunken brawl over a Alvarez female soured the relationship. In response to that the Mirazolli family has stolen said female, Miss Alexandria Alvarez from her father's home, right under his nose and is holding her ransom for an exhorbitant sum, including the one who killed Paolo.
A call went out to those known for thier skills at hostage retrieval, evading police and enemy notice and capture as well as tact.
Normal humans, demi fey, those of the Unseele who walk amoung humans in thier metal cities have been called.

My own character:

Name: Cara McFain
Age: 76 in human years
Height: 5'7"
Hair & Eyes color: Crimson hair and eyes the blue seen within a flame
Brief Background: Born of a Faere mother and a half human half demi-fey father, she can cause fire, if she has flamable things near by. Also it can not harm her. Was trained in human law enforcement but turned away from it after watching the system fail too many tims. Now does mercenary work as it pays better. Because of her mixed heritage doesn't associate with full blood fey much- they look down on her as unpure.
Professional bio: Trained as a human cop and in the magic of her mother's people. Weak for a Faere but moderatly powerful for a half faere.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Fire invulnerability but dislikes large bodys of open water. Skilled with most hand guns, sniper rifle, rope trickes. Not very good with explosive devices for obvious reason. Keeps a tight reign on her magic, hardly uses it. Better to rely on the physical the on uncertain things like fire. Has a weakeness for small kids, the demi fey and puppies as well as not being of only average human strength.

Tygressa "Ty" Lei

Name: Tygressa "Ty" Lei

Age: 26

Height: 5'6

Hair & Eyes color: Firey red hair tumbles down over the right side of her face, one of her cat-like emerald green eyes hidden beneath the tendrils of red.

Brief Background: Ty Lei was born into a clan of ninja assassins known as The Black Mist. Her father, while not the master of the clan was still highly respected. At age of 11, he had his daughter trained as an Giesha so that she could use her feminine ways to get close to the sex crazed leaders of other organizations including High Ranked Goverenment Officials. In secret, Ty studied all of the ancient ninjitsu arts becoming a formidable fighter. (There is a name for a Giesha Assassin, but I have to find the movie and get it again.)

Professional bio: Ty started out doing whatever the clan asked of her, including assassinating Fu Chi Mar, the master of a rival clan. While away on a mission in the west, her clan was found and incarcerated by authorities. Most of whom were on the payrole of rival clans. After returning home, Ty decided to move back west where she ended up in Fear's Bay. There she met Cara McFain and joined her ban of mercinaries.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Ty in pratically unbeatable at hand to hand combat, and knows how to use many martial arts weapons. Unfortunatly, Ty never learned how to operate any type of firearm, though many have tried to teach her.

(Sorry this isnt too in depth, but I just rolled myself outta bed. I will be editing this here and there as I get more of a story behind her.)

JD I like Ty, she'll play a good counterpoing to Cara.

Well thank you for the compliment..But I want to get the information I forgot at least, but I hope these two will have a great relationship....

Wouldn it be funny if the whole thread ended up being a girl character only?

Ladies? Hmmm, an all girl thread? you know that'll flock every guy with a screename for miles around.

Me included.
Sorry I didn't pm you Vix, but you know me (smile) Hi!

Terra.
Bounty hunter.
28.
6 foot 2.
215 pounds.
cropped black hair
devilishly green eyes.

Super strong, Terra is a human, who has honed all of his skills towards his job now. He's been working for years, and taken several operations to help with his physical prowess. Not only is he strong, but also very agile and quick.
He showed up on the bounty scene unexpectantly, grabbing up near impossible jobs and suceeding. He quickly become a great asset, as well as a great liability, and a huge sum of money is on his head for anyone who captures him.
He works mostly for money, but money is never really his chief concern. It's just something to help him get at his more attunable goal, which I don't know what it is yet, but I'll find out.
Has a vast knowledge of guns, not an expert, but can fire and hit most anything if he has to. Loves physical combat better though, and most times in a fight, he'll usually try giving the opponent at least a fair chance.
A duellist at heart.

I know, Pooh, tis okay. I figure showing up here is acceptance enough as it is.
One more main person I'm pretty sure is coming, perhaps a few others and we'll kick off.

Name: Stefan Gray

Age: 27

Height: 5'10''

Hair & Eyes color: Smooth, very blond hair framing his face, grey eyes

Brief Background: Stefan was brought up as the child of rich, estranged parents, both of whom were diplomats. As a result of this, he was shuttled back and forth between different nations, different embassies and different parents and step-parents all his life, giving him a view of places and people as vague, transitory things.

Professional bio: Because of the web of contacts he had built up throughout diplomatic embassies and governments across the world during his upbringing, the government saw fit to train and employ him as a special agent. After a few years, however, he was deemed to be too much of a trouble-maker and too much inclined to think for himself to be worthwhile. Since then, he has been a fixer and face-man for hire, often hired for missions that require subtelty and negotiation.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Stefan has a flair for dealing with people; a self-assured charm and grace. This occasionally can backfire on him, as some see it as arrogance. He has a catlike ability to always land on his feet and get away with things; set down in a completely alien city with no resources but his wits, Stefan could easily set up a network of contacts, bribery feedlines, spies and escape-routes, within weeks. His greatest failing is his overconfidence; he thinks he can talk his way out of anything. He has basic training in hand-guns, but generally prefers to avoid using them.

I'm sure you had plenty good reasons, Vix. ^_^

This is sounding pretty neat. I actually don't think I've ever played such a morally ambiguous RP before. Yarr. I'll try to come up with a character at some point before the game starts, if I can, and submit it for your approval...

(And call me JC! :D)

I am not sure if I am the other person she was waiting for, but here I am.

Name: Felix Manor
Nickname: Wonder weasel
Age : 37
Height: 5'2"
Hair : Black
Eyes: Brown
Background: Felix has been a sneaky person since he was a youth. A childhood spent in the company of two alcoholics did too thing. It gave him a severe lack of emotions and taught him how to be silent and unseen. As soon as he was able to afford to, Felix moved out on his own. His only real passion when he was younger was theater. He was in any drama production that he could find, learning how to mimic sound and to portray emotions. He also learned the ins and outs of costume and makeup. He has been able to use these abilities as a highly successful con man and thief. He has made stealthiness a work of art.

Professional Bio: He is a phenomenal spy and thief. He is able to imitate many people , using props and costumes to help carry this out. He has a specially designed van that hold most of his props, but also has a suitcase that has emergency ones in it. He is a consummate actor having turned his drama training to suit his best needs. He is always brimming with confidence.

Strengths: He has always been able to use his abilities to get the job done, so he has supreme confidence in what he does. He also has some faere blood in him, that he is not aware of, which has allowed him to become invisible in times of stress. He has always attributed it to sheer luck that no one saw him. As long as he does not harm anyone, he can stay invisible.

Weaknesses: He is not very skilled with firearms. He is able to use small handguns and knives since most of his work has always been close in. He is not physically strong for his size, though he has had some combat training.

Will this work for you Vix?

JC- thanks. I would love to have you in here, don't think I've RP'ed with you before.

Chewy- sounds great- we needed a "monkey" for this tasking.
I'll write and put up the IC Thread tonight (my time- Japanese BTW) and we can get to it.
Any other incoming characters let me know. I think we've a good mix here-

Cara McFain (female): Of the Faere, former cop, pyrokinetic.
Tygressa "Ty" Lei (f): Ninja assasin of the Orient. Looks like a kitten kills like a katana type.
Terra (male): Bounty Hunter, quick strong, a duelist at heart. Has a price on his head- no killing him while we're working. Afterwards- *shrugs*
Stefan Gray (m): diplomat extrordinare, in and out planner, smooth talker.
Felix Manor (m): Costumes expert and professional "monkey" can get in and out of about anything.

I think some kind of medical person might come in handy, maybe another spell caster type (can combine the two) and we should be good. I've two other PMs to answer with an incoming, and JC's character and I believe that'll be it.

A "Monkey" is it? Hmmm..... well, I have been called worse........

I read too much, LOL.
In the "Artimus Fowl" series, there's a character refered to as a monkey because he can get into and out of anything with ease. The fact he's really a dwarf has nothing and everything to do with it, LOL.
Monkey's are handy characters, LOL.

Even more handy than "monkeys" are masturbators with OCD. hehehe

Chewey

Make that chronic masturbators with OCD. hehehe

Hello Vixandra...

OOC: Just got your invite...

IC:
Name: Letisha DeLorean
Nickname: the cat (for her ability to avoid all sorts of trouble)
Age: 25
Height: 5'2"
Hair: raven's wing blue-black
Eyes: cobalt blue

Background: Letisha was raised in an abusive home..the product of a drunken, abusive caucasion father and a too quiet Puerto Rican mother. She spent an inordinate amount of time with her grandmother, learning the ways of magick and sign reading. It was in her 14th year that she learned to read minds, with a high degree of success.

She helped the police in a missing persons case at the age of 19 and opened up a small herbal shop at about the same time. She became the it girl for the police whenever they had trouble finding clues to others whereabouts. All of that came abruptly to an end when she lost her grandmother at the hands of an unknown assailant.

After that, she began using her *gift* for monetary gain, honing it to the point that she is hardly ever wrong. She was contacted by an unknown person in the Alvarez family not long ago.

Professional Bio: Letisha is not an assassain or even someone with a lot of contacts. She is a powerful psychic who has found out too many trade secrets for too many people in power. She has the gift of gab and the gift of silence. She can find out things no normal person could.

Strengths: Powerful psychic, with a vast knowledge of herbal and spell lore. Is an expert in knife fighting with some training in guns and ammo. Can copy accents flawlessly, useful for setting others up.

Weaknesses: Does not trust anyone and prefers to work alone, at all times. Has never had any real training when it comes to the mercernary lifestyle and could be more of a hindrance than a help in some cases.

Chewy- I can understand evil computers. My old compaq was nothing if not vile most of the time. But my new, barely windows HP 763n= I adore it.

Pet- looks great. Actaully solves the "how the hell do we find little miss Alexandria" question.
