OOC: Introduction of myself within SRP

I'm fairly new here in Lit and mainly came in through word of mouth. I have been a writer of poetry, sci fic since I was a little wee kid of 10.

I just would like to introduce myself to the people who like me now have made their home on this board. I'm Petar, I am embarking on a major thread at the moment that has been in the planning for many many years.

So if you see sci fic threads here, its most probably me.

Again hope to meet many of you in future threads where we can meet in our writing styles and create beautiful symetry of passion through the touch of words.

Cheers

Petar

Welcome, Petar!

Your OOC threads sound promising. I'm looking forward to reading the stories whenever you launch them.

Good luck, and I hope your experience here is as stimulating as mine!

Thankyou Chanaud,

:) Already have met some wonderful people like Marvel, Gray, Tibvo, Sienna, Sweetp amongst others. My experiences are positive and stimulating already.

Yes the OOC thread is launching soon another 8 days and the journey begins.

Welcome Petar. It'll be good to have some sexual Sci-Fi on Lit, should be a blast!

A Question that is haunting me

I have looked around in different threads along the SRP forum and seen a number of posts where people have edited all their posts to a single dot or a smilie.

To me in a role-play scenario that is pretty much a no no. If someone has said yes to a role play position and has changed their minds half way through should they not tell the organiser and not delete their entire posts.

Just wanting to know 2 things;

1/ The reason people do that?

2/ What action can be taken other than not chosing to RP with them in the future?

Cheers

Editing posts in such a manner is rare, but can sometimes be felt necessary by the writer.

1 Why do people do that? -
Reasons vary and each occasion is unique.
It is an action not done lightly, but is a result of a serious breakdown in communication/opinion with the thread originator/co-writer.
You'd have to ask each person WHY for each particular story to begin to understand waht led to such extreme action.

2 What action can be taken? -
Perhaps it is easy to be judgemental, to make assumptions?
Where that has happened it is obvious that feelings have been hurt to such an extent that public contributions have been withdrawn.
The people involved at the time will know the details and obviously the action taken clearly communicates that it is no longer an issue to be aired publically.

It is up to individuals what "action they take" if they discover someone has edited out their posts.
Again it's individual, so I can only quote my experiences to try to clarify my points:

One time I was sharing a one-on-one thread with someone and the story was going well and growing page after page.
One day I logged on and all his posts were edited as you describe with no explanation publicly or privately.
That really hurt as there was no indication that anything had been wrong.
The story was a beautiful tale and the eradication of his words was a real "loss".
At a later date, he returned to Lit and got in touch.
He'd been having problems, made non real explanation as to his actions and could we resume.
I refused. Not out of animosity, but merely because I wasn't convinced that he wouldn't do the same again.

A second, more recent time I was involved a "misunderstanding" which was taken public in an OOC thread.
It was the other person who finally edited their OOC comments and so with accusations withdrawn I did the same.
The shame is that they also removed all their contributions to the main thread, which seemed such a waste.
What to do about that? Use the ignore button.

Other than that, I think I've edited/amended posts, (eg. <<application withdrawn>>) but only in OOC posts and don't remember an occasion when I've removed every trace of my contribution to a story thread.

In trying to understand what goes on here, however Peter, I would offer a word of warning.
There is a whole sub-text of personalities and egos that aren't openly obvious to a newcomer to the boards.
As writers are drawn to each other and break into groups there are the same social issues as in reality.
People can be hurt by other people's actions and words and what they perceive is being said about/to them.

I for one have experienced both the good and bad, but over all there is much more positive communication here than anything else.
People are usually kind, supportive which is why I keep coming back.
But like a real family, there are fallings out and disagreements.
Such is life.

At the end of the day, it's a free country.
We are here to write and share our imaginations.
Generously we share our words, our thoughts our emotions, our fantasies and offer them up to be read and enjoyed/assessed by a "faceless public".
To do so involves a great risk, especially because it is all to easy to forget that there is a real person with feelings and vulnerabilites behind each Screen Name.

If there is ever a situation where a person feels they must withdraw those words, where a person no longer wishes to have their inner thoughts on public display, then surely that is their right?
They are the only people who own their words.

As I understand it, the rules of the board mean that a moderator cannot edit out derogatory comments made about another poster unless those comments break one of the few forum rules.
Sometimes the edits are where people have thought better of the comments they have made and withdrawn those words.

With free speech, comes responsibility.
I know we all strive to use that freedom responsibly.

Apologies that this response went on so long.
Hope this helps you with this issue.

Ty Marianne,

Your answer to the questions pretty much covered all the points I raised.

Being pretty new to Literotica, I can only go via this avenue. I will treat everyone with the accorded respect. I only people have differing views and ideals. I know that there are people who dislike each other. Inherently, I have chosen to be friendly to everyone.

What you wrote above is a major reason why i left the AOL chat rooms, people had forgotten that behind each computer there was a real person with real feelings and real emotions.

There is already too much hate, war, mistrust and hurt in the world, this is the place where we can start to change it.

I have found where there are many differing ideas and personas there can develope problems but what also can develope is a beautiful coming together of writing styles and minds.

In the end, I have met some great people on the board and have made some great friends. And I am beginning to write in two threads that I will put my effort mind and soul in

Very true Petar!

Like you I welcome every contribution and comment on the boards.
I would hope I have very few "enemies", though that doesn't mean I "click" with everyone on here.

The board is big enough for us all.
My approach/opinion etc isn't "right" it's just "right for me".
Individuality and diversity is what makes this forum so rich.

We all need to be valued and respected.

Marianne,

Agreed, diversity adds flavour to the board and individuality adds the certain spice that enriches life and writing.

And finally its the richness that makes the board a pleasure to be associated with.

Ty hon for your comments :)

Thankyou Why,

I realised I was spending my time dealing with the paranoia, stroking the ego, playing the court fool in the court of a "ego" that one normally finds in a Highschool playground.

Why,

It seems you and I have had a silmilar experience, well I had to have that experience 4 times before I woke up to the games of the heart that was played on me.

I will take your advice and keep it close. Ty for that.

Welcome Petar- It's always good to have new, fresh talent in the forum.

Moral: Those who shit on you aren't necessarily out to hurt you, and those who appear to be helping you might actually be obnoxious, lying, deceitful, pompous, jackasses... er, wolves.

:D

Thankyou McKenna for your welcoming and yes great advice, I will also take that onboard.

Also the size of the site helps.... it is big enough for one to vanish in if one wishes.....

Very true Why!

It's always possible to co-exist with the minority in order to have the priviledge of writing with the many.

We're all bound to tread on toes at some time.
And in turn people can - usually inadvertently - hurt us.
That's life.
But I've learned it doesn't have to spoil the experience of sharing with so many wonderful and talented people.

The only thing to do is let it go and move on.

Life's too short and there is so much to enjoy!

Thank-you Marianne,

Thanks for notifying people on my behalf. It's been a whirlwind of a 48 period of time, no sleep, full of worry and human mistakes on the part of doctors.

Ty for the people who showed caring and compassion and well wished me through PMs and emails.
