ok, kind of a shameless rip with tweaks from a good manga here, but I thaught it was a cool premise, and I'd like to see if and how everyone would run with it, so here goes:

The year is 3372, and life is very hard. Industrialised society collapsed 1000 years ago within the course of a week due to the planet rebelling against all the pollutants man had pumped into it, and man's attempt to destroy a newly-emerging jungle, filled with mutated insects and highly poisonous plants. These days are referred to at the time of scourging. Man was scattered and regressed to an earlier state of techonolgy as fatories were swallowed up, and the knowledge to make advanced items was lost.

700 years after these events occured, intrepid explorers from some of the newly-risen kingdoms were able to penetrate the great jungles and recover some of the old technologies of war, and turned them on the neighbouring kingdoms, while others continued to scratch a living off of the few, unpolluted resources that remained, the insects of the forrest being increasingly hunted for their thick hides.

two years ago, rumers started to spread. Tales told by wandering merchants of a place, deep in the jungle that survived both the scourging and the ever-intrusive jungle. It is said that this place holds many things, depending on the teller of the tale, from aincient weapons and vehicles, to data on the lost art of genetic manipulation. Some even say it contains away to stop the spread of the jungle, and for man to take back his world. Each kingdom, in a bid to claim whatever lies in this place, has sent out explorers to search the jungle, while also sending out sabotours and assassins to stop their rivals.

So, that's the background story. Figured I shoul come up with a few template kingdoms too, but feel free to make your own

Askain (Askainian)- a small kingdom near the edge of the toxic jungles. The people are very determined in their tasks, and are well-known insect hunters. They have a low level of technology, mostly hand weapons and armour, but made of the highest quality

Kamarou (Kamarouite)- A veritable empire consisting of no less than 74 cities and villages. They are the most warlike kingdom, due to the fact that they have access to some of the old weapons of war - tanks. As useful as these are against their fellow man, however, one tank cannot stop an insect stampede, and so every citizen is inducted into the guard. Advanced ballistic weapons are their hallmark

Pit (Pitite)- Quite a large kingdom situated quite some distance away from the jungles, Pitites tend to devote themselves to study and experimentation. As such, they are one of the few kingdoms able to properly utilise flamethrowers, and have the only known laser-based weapons.

Selim (Seliminian)- Wanderers and explorers, the Seliminians are the only kingdom not to have a home city. Instead, they operate from their fleet to pre-scourging airships. While the knowledge of maintaining and operating the hightly advanced weapons may have been lost, the ships fusion cores allow them to keep going without need for refuel. They favour automatic ballistic weapons, and are at war with the Kamarouites

Well, that's all I gots for you right now. Any takers? Or would you wish to ask questions first?

Got my attention. Any details on the types of plants or animals that have undergone mutation?

Most of the trees in the toxic jungle have mutated to absorb far more pollutants than normal. As such, fungusses that feed on them have also mutated, producing streaks of highly poisonous spores. These spores are much bigger than your average fungus spore, so even a thich piece of cloth would be enough to stop them from getting breathed in. Plants, vegetables and flowers as we know them today have to be specially cultivated away from the spores to prevent infection and mutation.

As for the wildlife, it's the bugs that thrive in the forrests now, most mammals having either died or moved far away from the jungles. Flying insects are abundant, and have grown to gigantic sizes, with extra, and tougher, wing membranes to support flight. They are the primary predators of the jungles. Woodlice and cockroaches have also grown larger (about the size of a dog) and are fiercely terratorial. Spiders exist in the jungles, too, but while not being as large as the other critters, they have evolved to make their hard webs in packs, and quickly swarm anything caught.

of course, there are far more species of insect and bug out there than I know of, and a thorough trawl through wiki would probably cause my brain to melt, but you get the general idea. Most plants are hosts for toxic spores, and insects have gotten bigger and nastier

Sounds like a good premise to me... Preferably I wouldn't need to be human but I am onboard either way.
