Hi, I use to be a regular poster on Lit, but it’s been a good yr. & 1/2 since I've posted. With that being said I'm a bit rusty with RPing, and hope you can all bear with me and fill in the gaps till I get back on my feet.

Now here’s the idea and its original by all means, so don't let the Camelot plot throw you off. Now there have been quite a few stories told on the myth/truth of Camelot and King Arthur. The two best done movies IMHO are Excalibur and Monty Pythons Holy Grail. Both are opposites one takes the serious approach, dealing with the somewhat darker and serious side of Arthur and Camelot. The second takes the humorous approach, dealing more with mayhem and humorous follies. Both contain truth to a degree, mixed with myth and fiction.

Now it has been proven that there was at one time a Camelot and King Arthur. A good place to find this information can be found at the History Channels web site. Now in all aspects dealing with this, there is a common question that is asked, what happened to Camelot and King Arthur. This RP story plans to answer that question and reveal the truth about Camelot and Arthur. This story will not hold to anything that has been written, in fact this story will destroy the myths told about Camelot. Listed below (in no order) will be a brief glimpse of the story to help people decide how to play their chars as well as how to move the story. Also a list of rules and requirements will be listed below.

Ok, the story will start out with one char, which if nobody minds I’d like to play. This Char is not the hero or the star; he is just the starting char for the plot. After his introduction the story can open up with other chars. The character will find himself in a very weird place, he latter discovers that he is in a third dimension, an alternate universe. This dimension was created by Merlin, created to remove Arthur and Camelot.

The story will revolve around the idea of Author being nothing more then a hate filled War Lord. Author and his knights were nothing more then bandits. Author’s personality is border line crazy, with a twisted personality. Think along the line of Stalin, Gangues Khan, and Caesar. Now Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table are playable by anybody, unless someone wants to play one of them. Only exception is Sir Lancelot, and this is due to a certain aspect of the story. If someone is going to play this Character they must agree to a certain story plot, this also holds true to Author. Those interested let me know and I will PM you the details. There is a reason behind this; it’s a key point to the overall story.

Now as far as other characters in the story, that is open to the imagination with the following exceptions. The story takes place during medieval times, so things like Orcs and Elves are not playable. With that being said though, you can introduce Mythical creatures into the story related to medieval lore. Things such as Ogres, Dragons, wizards, fairies, etc. Now in regards to Dragons, you will be required to play them in Char. That means you must know something about dragons, like the fact that only female dragons fly and spit fire. There is plenty of info out there pertaining to them, so please be sure to play them as such. Now while were on the subject of Dragons, I want to address their introduction. I don’t mind how their played, but their introduction can not be until the Introduction of Merlin. Merlin is an NPC char and can be played by all unless someone decides to play him. Merlin is very wise, yet somewhat unsure in his mind, he doesn’t posses any magic, due to the fact he used it all to create this magical universe. And since it was created by magic, all things that were magical in the world were sucked into it, like Dragons. Last point on the Dragon Chars. First, Dragons can talk, they are highly intelligent, and carry themselves in a prideful kind of way. When playing them, think of them as Nobles, and their view of all other creatures as beneath them. There are also no female Dragons, reason for this lays in the story that I will open latter on or I can explain in detail to those who want to play the dragons

Last, the other chars in the story outside of what’s been detailed are peasants, Dukes, Barons, Minor Lords, Mercenary’s and the Outsiders. Now the outsiders are what the people of the land refer to those who have been sucked into their world. So the people can range their chars from around 100 years after Author till the present. Would like to see chars from different periods, such as the civil war, WWI or WWII, 100 yr war, etc etc. The reason for this is that when Merlin created this magical dimension he caused a rift in time. This rift flows thru the world and if a person is standing in its path, they are sucked into this paradox. Author is trying to find a way to break free thru this and uses his powers to run down and capture the outsiders to gain knowledge.

I know this may sound a bit confusing, but to go into deep detail would set too much in stone thus causing people to follow more of a script. I don’t mind if people want to play more then one char, I myself may do just that. I hope everybody will post any questions they have and help me work out the kinks of the idea before I post the thread. Also one last thing. As I stated anything that was magical and connected to medieval times could be played and introduced. I’d like people to draw off English lore for such things, maybe even have people draw stories off many of the British symbols and coats of arms that are displayed. Well, I await the flames and questions. Thanks for hearing me out.

Hey, I'm really interested in making a character for this world. I really like the ideas you're talking about and I'm also a fan of Arthurian literature. I know you said no elves but would you mind a fairy character? I was thinking something along the lines of Oberon or some other similiar character. Let me know what you think.

I don't see a problem of a Fairy character. The reason I say no elves or orcs is because those type of Chars. are often associated with middle earth. During the time of Arthur there were no orcs, but some can argue there might have been elves.

Id like to keep what I term as non human characters to the myth and lore of the period of time of Camelot. So in short, if it existed in myth during that period of time, then it’s fine by me.

hey I love hte authurian tales as well,I would love to play a charcter similiar to that of the lady of the lake.. or if I cant do that then one of the Avalonian women from Avalon.. SO either one is an charcter idea .. .. which ever is your choice.. :)

Heres a Character Sketch for you.

NAME: Oberon
RACE: Sidhe (the nobles of fairy kind)
TITLE: King of Fairies
APEARANCE: Oberon stands as tall as a human but is more slender and seemingly more delicate. He has long pointed ears and almond shaped silver eyes. His hair is the color of gold and reaches pat his waist. His skin glows like moonlight underneath his regal attire.
ABILITIES: Oberon is a skilled warrior and master of fairy magic, but away from his kingdom his powers have waned. He relies primarily on his swordsmanship among the mortals. His sword and armor are made of bronze because iron is poisonous to fairies.
CONCEPT: Oberon has left his kingdom in desperation. The world his kind have been sucked into is under the tyrannical rule of King Arthur who wishes to use the powers of the fairies to escape. Oberon has left his kingdom in the hands of his queen Titania. He has vowed not to return until Arthur is dead.

LadyRozes: FYI according to some folklore the Lady of the Lake is a fairy and the sister of Oberon. I don't know if you want to go that route but if so our characters would be a perfect match.

somebody has been reading hamilton .. havent they????

I love her too .. cant wait fro her next book to come out ..

I'll take Sir Lancelot. Seems like more than enough fun. Can't wait to start this thing out.

I love the legend I am on board but perhaps as a useful outsider.

I was thinking a Civil War Cavalry Major from Massachusetts. An industrialist who worked his way up from the factory floor to management. A good horsemen and hunter so when the war arrived he eagerly joined up to serve the union cause.

One night when riding back to camp with his wagon of personal items and his two cavalry mounts in the rear. He road into the mist and soon found he was in a very different place.

Should I develop things more??

LadyRozes are you talking about Laurell K.? She's my favorite author! I can tell we're gonna get along great.

Oberon

Love the concept of the Character. Not to go to deep into myth, but are not the Fairy’s enemy’s of leprechauns?

Second on the point about the Lady of the Lake. What if she was more of a summoned Daemon, again were talking about taking the known myth and twisting it, maybe she’s a Siren? Maybe there’s a catch to that, maybe she holds the key to Authors power?

LadyRozes

I don't mind if you’d like to play more then one character. I also don’t mind how you developed them as long as it flows with the story and direction. There is only one rule I have and that’s to have fun.

Jagged

Love the character, fits in perfectly. Any ideas or suggestions that you or anybody else would love to share would be great.

Also I'd like to put this into thought about the outsiders. These Characters are from different time periods, so your Characters knowledge of things such as cars or computers would be lacking. Yet his ability’s such as ridding a horse or use of a sword would be better then that of a Character from present time.

Also you must consider the language as well. Meaning if a Character from present time were to make a comment like, " You're antics are gay." your Character would respond with, “What do you mean; I am far from being happy." Reason I bring this up, is because it could result in some humorous dialogue and would also be in Character with the time periods from which they are from.

One last point to add, and that’s the time gap. When Merlin made this demission, it was based on the current time period. Though people could die by sword or disease, they didn’t age. The seasons would change but time stood still. Thus when people were sucked into the rift, them being from a point were time moves, transported into a state of non movement, they thus live forever. Now though these people who were transported into this world live forever, people born into it were subject to the effects of time. Hence forth Author and his Knights still lived but many of the peasants and such had not. Author realized this, and being a man of power decided to limit those who lived, thus his concern over the outsiders.

I hope this makes some sense and doest confuse people. I’m just trying to give a better sense about the story and its origins to better help people develop their chars and plots.

Roughneck,

I'm not sure what you mean about leprecauns being the enemies of fairies. Leprecauns are a race of fairies and thus would be subjects of Oberon. Of course leprecauns are a part of Irish myth and Oberon is a part of British myth so I don't know if the two have ever been put together before. Maybe leprecauns are a renegade faction who have seperated from the rest of fairy-kind?

As for the Lady of the Lake, she gave Arthur Excalibur so in a sense she is the source of his power. Maybe one of the plotlines could be about Oberon's anger toward the Lady for surrendering the sword to Arthur or maybe the Lady was tricked by Merlin into giving Arthur the sword.

As for the Lady's race and origin I'll leave that up to you and LadyRozes to decide. As I said before she's only a fairy in some folklore. Others have interpretted her as a nymph, a ghost or some other being that defies category.

Well, do you know that she is the one that was the cause of Merlins fall from power and not Morgana. I have a whole list of links on the lore and myth of Camelot. I'll hunt them down and post em so people can use them for referance

Oh I forgot, there is a conflict between Leprechauns and Fairy’s. It’s more or less based on social status. In short the Fairy’s think they are better then Leprechauns do to their ability to fly. Wasn't so much bringing up the idea for the story, more or less as info related.

There are a lot of different races of fairies. Sidhe are the nobles and they look more or less like the elves described by Tolkien. The kind of fairies your thinking of are the sprites, pixies and other diminutive races of fairy kind. In most of the traditional stories about fairies they don't have wings or the ability to fly. In fact, many fairies are hideous, terrifying creatures known collectively as the Sluagh or Host. They are the enemies of Oberon's fairy kingdom which is sometimes called the Seelie Court.

There is also an Unseelie Court which is headed by the Queen of Air and Darkness. They also hate the Seelie Court and sometimes ally themselves with the Sluagh. All the races found in the Seelie Court are also found in the Unseelie Court, but are bent towards evil.

Sorry for the information overload. I'm just trying to explain were I'm getting my character from and the myths that I'll be incorporating into his background.;)

Now we are really going into hamilton's world.. there with the unseelie.. I would so love to be meredith gentry.. now that would be fun to play .. if she was a character to play .. a woman that got to have sex that much .. has got to be one lucky lady .. at least in my book.. :p

Now as for the lady of the lake. I like the idea of the lady being tricked into giving up excalibur.. it makes the lady seem more innocent.. and I will probably play her like a seelie fae.. similiar personality to maeve.. I figure she was once a nymph born in a very powerful lake.. that gained her power and then lost it ..so she can only stay in the lake to retain all her powers..

Now for my fun character.. Since the other can only stay in teh lake ..unless she wishes to lose her power

The avalon priestess.. the few that survived and ended up getting sucked into the realm when being made.. if anyone has seen Mists of Avalon .. or read the book, I think of Morgane when she first was initiciated into the fold.

Name: Bryn
Age:20
Hair: Darkish brown and that crimson color in the sun
Ht: 5'4"
Eyes: color of mayple syrup when the sun hits it.
Body shape: well she is made like a woman that can bare sons.. and feed them well.. think an hourglass.. but a little thicker in the waist and less stickly.. she's curvacious and her body is molded having spent her time doing many physical errands.
Skin: is touched by the sun .. what they call sunkissed golden color. She dresses in robes that befit her sisterhood in Avalon unless she is in the middle of gathering things in teh woods .. then she wears clothing that blend well with her surroundings.. .

Bryn spends her time helping those less fortunate and those that seem lost she takes care of until they feel they have found their way... She spends time studying the plants around her and her knowledge seems to grow as she has felt liek she has been here a long time.

Being one of the very few that have escaped notice of merlin or arthor. Her home is in the woods near the lake .. where a well known nymph that loves to cause trouble with many lives albeit innocently. Having been alone so long Bryn keeps to herself in the forest and has vast knowledge of her surroundings and the elements. Her home is in a natural cove inside a very old oak tree. She lives above the ground so not to be bothered unless she wished it.

so these are my characters .. are they alright???

Hi I have justification for some of my outsider's knowledge. He was a factory work and craftsmen before the war. He has books and some items from the "future" so that is why I would know some things. Would make an interesting addition to your campaign. If you don't want to go that route I understand and can easily come up with a period character or from the past like a Viking....Or near future like Musketeer from the Court of France.

The Lost Regiment series.....had a lot of fun stuff involving what I described.

i dont know if any of you have seen the most recent depiction of camelot and what that was.. but I found it to be the most accurate according to history albeit more imbelleshed in some areas (yes I cant spell get over it) but still close none the less.

Gweniviere was a celtic princess that belived in pagan rituals.. it depends on what some historical people say but that is the most recent findings.. jsut another input on the legend of arthor

Ladyrozes brings up a good point. How historically accurate do you want to be?

If you want to be more realistic then Merlin should be a druid and most of the people living in Arthur's kingdom should be pagans. Christians should be newcomers and the Knights of the Round Table may or may not have embraced this faith. Also it should be set at the beginning of the Dark Ages and not during medieval times.

Otherwise you can just go with Mallory and base it entirely on myth and legend. This would probably best since we're already talking about fairies and Avalon. Although you could find some middle ground combining history and legend. Its up to you.

Chars. fine, just had a thought about something. What would you think about the idea of him being an Irishman? You mentioned Civil War soldier and the thing that comes to mind is a stout, rouged Irishman, maybe a Sgt. in the Infantry. I'd think the perfect backdrop to his disappearance would be the battle of Shiloh. The battle took place in the early morning, the surprise attack by Confederate forces on the Union camps, with the early morning mist and fog caused confusion and the army routed. Maybe that could be a good backdrop for your Char?

Let’s not get too deep in fact, instead let’s use some of the fact to misplay the myth. The main focus of the story and plot is what happened to Camelot, who Arthur is, and what these Characters will do when confronted with the fact there’s no way back.

Also, some characters such as Jagged's will have been in this world before the story begins, so their knowledge and experiences will play an important part.

I want everybody to feel free to move with the story, in its development, feel, and ending. I also want the story to be as such that if anybody is reading, they can freely join in. Just remember when making an outsider, that the character can be from the time period of about 100 years after Arthur to Present. That the characters behavior, knowledge and concepts of things should also be as such. This will play an important role in the story as the characters will draw off of each others ability’s to confront their fears and problems.

Lastly, I will open the thread sometime tomorrow. Once the introduction is done, feel free to start the development. I am really excited about this, I think we can have allot of fun and really make this a great story. Thanks for everybody who has signed up and I look forward to the fun ahead.
