Lakeland is a fairly large town in a valley surrounded by wooded hills and naturally. . . lakes.
Most of the lakes are either on public property hence open to the public or on private property, but there are some that are in the woods and generally inaccessible without a hike.
However, some of the crowd from Lakeland High have cleared a way from a fire road to one of the secluded lakes and even arranged a fence gate with plants on it to conceal their little dirt road. This place will be one of the best kept secrets at Lakeland High. Only 'those in the know' will have any idea where the gate is located and any who spill the beans and talk will be immediately ostracized by the rest of the Party Crowd by mutual agreement. It's "their place" and will be kept that way.
The overgrown dirt road ends in a clearing with a canopy of old growth trees for shade and also to hide the fires that'll be build in the stone lined fire pit they've built. The clearing fronts a small 5 or 6 acre lake and the cattails, etc have been cleared from the edge of the lake at the party clearing creating a small beach for swimming and sun bathing.
The town has some small industries, mostly non polluting high tech ones, but there is a factory that does assembly line work and is the source of employment for a large segment of the unskilled workers in the area.
Naturally there are also the usual range of mom and pop and small businesses. There's a small mall, several shopping centers, and on the 'other side of town' there are even adult book stores and strip clubs, topless and nude bars and it's even alleged there's a whore house down there someplace.
Drugs are in the area but most are of the lighter variety with Pot and mild uppers being the drugs of choice for most of the students at Lakeland High. Of course there are also the hard drugs, but most of those users are gang members from the 'other side of town' or other losers. None of Lakeland High's in crowd is into hard drugs. They know it's a down hill spiral.
The closest big city is Nevins and it's about a 2 hour drive to get there. The interstate is about 40 minutes from Lakeland so it's a bit off the beaten path so to speak.
There's been talk of building another high school for next year or the year after as more people move to the area, not minding the commute to Nevins and liking the country atmosphere. Lakeland is gradually becoming a bedroom community for Nevins.
