Islands drift in the void, beneath a near eternal night. The unsuspecting populous of this demiplane will soon have a visitor, Aasterinian, messenger of Io the one who cursed them for long past sins.

The brass dragon flies in low in the darkness of the moonless night. Aasterinian lands in the center of small village, and lets out a roar to announce her presences. A gathering of the inhabitants quickly forms. The brass dragon smiles, as she often does. Her news wasn't good but it wasn't bad either so it was simple to be content with her occupation.

The town elder, Algerian, moved with a sleight limp to the center of the crowd. He stared at the dragon with his one remaining eye, his body was scared and battered with the hard life he was born into years ago. "Why are you here dragon? We do not enjoy your company on nights such as this but tomorrow your more then welcome to return." The people cheered knowing tomorrow starts the long hunting season, the time of Io's vengeance.

Aasterinian smiled enjoying the rare courage people seldom show to dragons. "Perhaps tomorrow you can leave?" A sudden hush came to the crowd.

Algerian looked up skeptically. "Don't cause us false hopes dragon. Our suffering is sufficient already."

"I am Aasterinian, messenger of Io. I bring Io's word, a opportunity for freedom and perhaps even forgiveness. You were not th ones who angered Io, and those who angered him have long sense passed. Still a dragons anger lasts long, longer then the lives of your kind."

"Your words are well chosen, but wasted get to the point dragon."

"Two of Io's children have fought for over a millennium. They have dragged their fight into a war, the dragon fall war. The war is quickly becoming more then dragon kind can bare. Your charge is to stop this was from spreading. Do this and Io will forgive the sins of your fathers."

Thread basics

So first off this is a Dungeons and Dragons based thread. That being said it doesn't matter, because I am not going to use any of the rules, just the world, a few characters, the monsters, and my own idea.

So the idea is simple the characters are the people who take up the chance to rid themselves of the curse. Io, the father of all dragon kind, and more likely Aasterinian, a female brass dragon and messenger of Io, will give periodic quests and missions to the characters.

The population in this demiplane are all lycanthropes, specifically were-dragons of metallic and chromatic families. They all were born with the disease and as such have control of the shape changes associated with it, except they can't change out of full dragon form the night of the full moon and the nights immediately before and after it.

200 years ago the ancestors of this demi plane was a band of 15 dragon slayers, the best in existence. They had killed off all dragon kind in their home country, 264 dragons were slain. Since the 15 dragon slayers were unwavering and even crushed the eggs and nests of the dragons they killed, Io showed no mercy back cursing not only them but their families as well.

The curse has three parts. The first is also the greatest asset to the PCs, they were afflicted with lycanthropy and changed into dragons when physically harmed or under the light the of the full or near full moon. (The PCs are born lycanthropes and as such can change shape at will, the exception once more is under moonlight.) The second portion of vengeance was trapping the slayers and their families in the demiplane. Io being a god designed this plane himself. For 101 days starting at the new year day and night comes normally and the moon completes its cycle every 28 days as normal. The remaining 264 days of the year however are an eternal night in which the moon is always full. The third portion is he attracts other dragon slayers from around the world into this plane on those 264 days. So the fairly small population has to fight for their lives most of the year.

DnD basics

Okay this is brief and all you need to know of DnD, some of it is fairly basic. Notes on lycanthropes, races of humanoids and dragon descriptions, and classes. The dragon descriptions are long, so if you don't want detail the useful information is the last two or three sentences in each one.

As lycanthropes silver harms you better then most other weapons. Also you have 3 forms humanoid, full dragon, and hybrid. Hybrid combines physical traits of both forms and is larger then humanoid and usually smaller then full dragon, (the exception is unimportant but for the sake of completeness babies and children of humans or elves with white, black, or brass dragon types are the opposite but only until they hit puberty.) The hybrid posses both the wings and the breath weapon of the dragon, and has the thumbs of the humanoid. (Don't under estimate thumbs.)

Races: Humans are quick learners and posses more skills then similar people in other races.
Elves: Strong senses and instead of sleep they meditate for 4 hours. Immune to sleep spells. They are also more nimble then humans but less durable.
Dwarves: More durable then humans but lack charm and tact. They also are slightly more resistant to spells, and greatly more resistant to poison.
Gnomes: An adult is 3 to 3 1/2 feet or less tall. They are more durable then humans but also weaker. They have a strong sense of smell and have an innate magic. A few times a day they can make fake sounds at a distance, strange lights, and even move small objects with out touching them.
Halflings: These guys are smaller still, (2 to 2 1/2,) have slightly pointed ears and no facial hair. They are weaker then humans but more agile. They are extremely athletic being great runners, jumpers, and climbers. Further more they are extremely good at escaping danger be it magical or mundane.

Dragons: There are two families each with five members. Chromatic dragons tend to be evil and metallics tend to be good. Each inhabitant of the plain is of random dragon type that has no relevance to the kind of dragon the parent was. Also the good and evil aspects of the dragon have no effect on the character. The dragons are presented in order of size and power in their family. With the exception of the white and gold dragons each member is equal in power to a member of the opposing family.

(I recommend picking a number from one to ten and go to that dragon, so it is random but no one making you.)

White dragons: These are the weakest and least intelligence of dragon kind. Their jaws end in a sharp beak, their necks are reasonably short and at the back of their head is a crest. They are immune to cold, weak to fire, and breath a cone of cold air and ice. Their feet are designed to walk on ice and snow.
Black dragons: These guys are aquatic, living in swamps. The skin on the head is very tight and the eyes sink back, giving the head the appearance of a skull. They also have two horns that point forward along the side of the head, and webbed feet. They can stay under water indefinitely, and are immune to acid. Their breath weapon is a line of acid.
Blue dragons: The ears on these dragons are fin like. They have a single horn in the center of their head. A row of dorsal spines runs down their back, and hornlets behind the elbows of their front legs. These guys live in the desert, and can barrow underground with surprising speed, (the ground must be reasonably soft and dry). They shoot lighting bolts from their mouths and are immune to electricity.
Green Dragons: These guys have slightly longer necks. A crest runs down their back. Hornlets line their brows, and a cluster of hornlets form bellow their chin. They have a forked tongue. They live in forests but are also aquatic. They are immune to acid and breath a cone of corrosive/ acidic gas.
Red Dragons: These are the second or third largest dragons, with only gold dragons being more powerful. Of the chromatic dragons their wings are the largest relative to their body size. Their mouths end in a beak. A small horn sits on their nose. At the back of their head two horns go back along its head. They also have a forked tongue. Immune to fire weak to cold. Breath a cone of fire.

Brass: These guys are equal in power to black dragons. First off they have what I will refer to as sail wings. Their wings start at the shoulders as normal but the membrane runs all the way to the tip of the tail, and is supported by flexible spines. Flight and gliding takes place in a manta-ray like ripple. That said onto the rest of them. They have two blade like horns on their chin. They have a forked tongue. The skull has a triceratops like skull pate divided into two behind the brows. They live in the desert and can barrow like blue dragons. They are immune to fire weak to cold and breath a line of fire.
Bronze: The head has a small frill down the center. Four small horns run back along the sides of the head with a skull plate between them. The mouth ends in a beak. Once more these guys are aquatic. A membrane extends from their elbows to just above there hips and is used for swimming. They shoot lighting from their mouths and are immune to electricity.
Copper: These guys live in mountains. They have sail wings. Above each brow a long smooth rear facing horn grows. They have long back swept cheekbones that run bellow the horns. A frill sits on each side of the jaw. Two rides run down their backs. They are immune to acid and spit a line of acid. They also are gifted climbers.
Silver: They look noble, in my opinion. A large crest runs down their head and their back. Their top jaw is beak like but the bottom jaw ends in a Strong chin. Two long round rear facing horns sit on its head. A frill on its chin give the appearance of a goatee, and their ears have frills as well. They are immune to cold weak to fire and breath a cone of cold and ice. They are roughly equal in power to red dragons.
Gold: These are the biggest and most intelligent of dragon kind. My opinion, they look sage like. They are long and thin. They have an almost serpentine body. Their necks are long and their tails are the longest among all dragon kind. These goes once more of sail wings. Twin metallic horns are rear mounted behind the head. Their eyes are slanted and narrow. And they have thick whiskers four above th mouth and four bellow. 2 frills run down its neck ending just behind the wings. They are aquatic, living in the sea or lakes and strangely on mt peaks too. They are weak to cold immune to fire and breath a cone of fire.

Classes: These are to help flesh out your characters, I won't bog you down with rules.

Barbarian: The classic berserker. Strong durable and fast, but kind of crazy. Common in the village.
Bard: Bards multitask. Fairly skilled, they sing sons to distract people from pain and inspire skill. They also dabble in illusion and enchantment spells with some healing magic. Rare
Cleric: Reasonably competent in battle using maces, spears, and weapons that require little training. They can wear armor, and cast mainly healing and buff spells. uncommon
Druid: Nature healer. Possible with pm.
Fighter: Skilled in armor and weapons, with a variety of talents. (Tripping, disarming, two weapons, ranged combat, hit and run tactics, what you suggest.) Common.
Monk: Martial artist. Possible with pm.
Paladin: Not possible.
Ranger: Outdoor traveling warrior. Less durable but reasonably skilled. Can track, and hide in natural terrain. Train a durable pet. Combat focuses on either two weapons, or really fast shooting with a bow. Can cast some really weak healing and survival spells. Less common
Rouge: Highly skilled sneaky people that specialize in hitting distracted foes. (Distracted being flanked or unaware of the rouges presence.) The classic thief, handles traps and picks locks. Common
Sorcerer: Innately magical they fool around with magic till they learn a spell, instead of studding it from a book. They have a few spells they know but can cast them fairly often with little preparation time. Supposedly they are descended from dragons. Common (Note: Blue, red, and metallic dragons can cast cleric spells.)
Wizard: Studios mages that have fair knowledge of history, magic, religion, and the like. They prepare spells each day from spell books. They have more spells at their disposal overall but must pick which spell and how many times they will cat it in a day ahead of time. Poor fighters, not durable, and no armor. Few skills other then book smarts. Rare

The fallow three classes are also present but less recommended for heroes.
Acolyte: They study magic and learn basic spells. Sense all the inhabitants of the town are potentially sorcerers this is very uncommon.
Expert: Blacksmiths, farmers, weavers, and the like. Highly skilled in various trades. second most common.
Warrior: A less skilled version of the fighter. Largest group. Most people have some skill in this profession do to the life style.

Just a note: It's not lycantrophy. Lycan- refers to wolf. Therianthropy is the generic term for shapeshifters of this kind, with Dracothropy being the term you mean.

Name: Lars.
Gender: Male.
Age: 22.
Race: Human.
Dragon Type: Green.
Class: Fighter.
Build: Athletic and lean build centered around agility.
Hair: Bald.
Eye: Grey.
Possessions: A curved backsword for slashing cuts, and a rapier for thrusting attacks, a scratched breastplate, and simple woodsclothes.
Bio: Lars was born into the demiplane, and has lived his whole life there. Lars has focused himself on his own survival. This is strongest in his fighting style, in which he weilds two swords, his main hand fencing with a rapier, while his off-hand weilds a slashing backsword. Lars has many scars over his body from the hunts in his lifetime.

Lars started to suffer from nightblindness a few years ago, which has started to progressively deteriorate his vision in the darkness in his human and hybrid forms, althgough his dragon form's darkvision and blindsense keep this from being a factor hin his dragon form. As such, Lars prefers to spend his nights in his dragon form, and shuns dark places.

Lars ritually shaves his head, and prays almost exclusively to Lendys. To those who know Lars, he is a quiet and caring man, but stern and unmoving in his belief of justice. Lars does not question of speak ill of the curse he suffers under, but bears it without complaint. He has a deep-seated hatred towards dragonslayers, to the point of having disowned his ancestry and forsaken his surname.

Name:Mara
Gender:Female
age:25
Race:Human
Dragon type:Black
Class: Druid(Mainly a healer but knows 1-2 offensive spells and one main defensive)
Build:Not very strong built but agile...she cannot run long distances and can only take a couple hits...
Hair:Long brown
Eye:Green
Possesions: A wooden staff,Basic Druid robes, A spear,a couple of potion bottles and ingrediants.

Bio:The great great great grandaughter of a very famous and renowned family of Druids the class came natural to her. Being taught by her grandmother who was the one of the town healers she learned many anti poision, pain releif, and buffing potions. Also knows healing spells, Chain heal,A light heal that takes almost a second to cast. A couple healing over time spells...and a big heal that takes about 20 seconds to cast and leaves her vulnerable because it needs complete concentration, one offesive spell called roots when casted roots shoot up from the ground entangling the enemy... Because she knows how to use weapons such as javelins and spears she goes in humanoid.

The curse hit her family very hard because they were changed into black dragons who spread acid which does the exact opposite of what Druids try to do. Her staff also plays an important role. It is an enchanted root of an ancient tree that is supposed to increase her spell

I blame my mistake on wizards of the cost.

Both of you are welcome. And it occurs to me I have yet to post a character.

I blame your mistake on the fact that werewolfism is the most common form of cursed shapeshifting, and as the predominate form, lycantrophy is considered simply a made-up word for it, and no one thinks about its roots.

Heck, I still have to look up Therianthropy to remember how to spell it.

Name:Rohan
gender:male
age:20
race: half dwarf
Dragon Type: red
class: Barbarian
build:Tall and Stocky
Hair: dark red and long, also has long beard
Eye: green
possessions: Staff axe-kinda like halberd but more axe like then spear like, broadsword, shield, bow, wolf and bear pelt clothing
Bio: Rohan is the son of a dwarf father and a human mother. He is traveling barbarian, who makes his living hunting, trading and doing mercenary work. not much is known about him, other then his love of strong drink and fighting.

Name: Kay Lute
gender: Male
age: 32 looks 20
race: Half Elf
Dragon Type: Bronze
class: sorcer
build: Slender but some what out of shape
Hair: Past Shoulders in pony tail. White.
Eye: Green
possessions: Staff, robes, spell componet pouch.
Bio: Like most half elves Kay had a fairly rough start. He grew slower then the humans and aged slower then the elves, making it extremely hard for him when he hit his teens. This left him able to experiment with a slieghly less common form of combat, magic. Of all the spells he knows he considers invisability his favorite, although he has had hit or miss results with it. Dragons are well known spell casters and few slayers are completely unprepared for magic tricks. That leads into his next favorite spells fireball and acid arrow.

Having heard the dragon gods offer he is eager to take up the quest if only to be free of dragon slayers.

Well my first plan was to put it up yesterday. That didn't work out right. So it'll be up in a few minutes.

For the reord the thread is up. (And aprently I was an idiot and forgot Dvls character. I'll have to fix that later.)

Characters information
Name: Davina
gender: Female
age: 216
race: Elf.
Dragon Type: Green.
class: Sorcerer
build: slight, some scarring
Hair: White and long, tied back in a topknot
Eye: green
possessions: Enchanted robe of warmth, 10' barbed chain, thich leather gloves
Bio: Davina grew up on the demiplane surrounded by other practitioners of magics. Unlike most, the village was little more than a camp for adventurous barbarian raids against other nearby villages. Quickly learning the ways of raiding and, shortly after, magic manipulation, Devina buried herself in her magical experimentation. This resulted in the entirely accidental(but not unwanted) enchanting of her travelling robe to constantly radiate warmth

I would recamend talking to the locals about the dragon. Chances are she isn't going to randomly explain herself again to any one who wasn't there. I would also assume news ike that would travel fast, and in 24 hours if the slayers don't come then it will definitly travel fast.

I should probably add feel free to through in obsticles if you feel like it; traps, locked doors, goblin campers. I'm fine saring control.

for the record, Rohan's only half dwarf so hes not that short, prolly around 5'4-5'5. and he called davina an elf-witch. not an elf-bitch, tho elf-bitch is no great leap given the amount of mutual dislike between dwarves and elves

Elfs and Dwarves are like a set of brothers. They don't get along well unless something threaens one and then they are the best of friends. Also keep in mind elves and dwarves are a minority on the other side per haps with as few as 20 full blood members of each.

Characters information

Name: Anduril Silverleaf II
Gender: Male
Age: 322
Race: Elven
Dragon Type: Silver
Class: Wizard
Build: A thin build, lithe in nature, with a gaze that emphasizes the strength of centuries of experience in the battle of life. His appearance is oddly pristine, with no evidence of the wounds sustained over the years. Anduril has taken to losing the "Wizardly Robes" in favor of more battle oriented clothing. Closely fitting leathers and such.
Hair: His hair is shoulder length, straight, silky to the touch and of the purest silver, a mark of his curse.
Eye: Arcane blue (imagine Dune and the sand people) with a silver radial pattern.
possessions: A bag, in which he keeps all his possessions.. it looks old, and foreign. It was one of two gifts passed down from his father. His spell book, A thick tome, with centuries of gentle, expert use. A nice set of leathers, which he has embroidered himself. And always on his shoulder or in hand, His most priceless possession.. "Dragonbane" his father's Composite Longbow - an ancestral item.

Biography: Anduril, first-son of Andurial I the Cursebringer. Andurial was newly declared an adult when he first traveled with his father during the great hunt. Anduril bore witness to the slaughter, traveling along with the Dragonslayers - but never joining in the rampage unless the foe were an evil one. In those dark days.. the bond between Anduril and his father was too strong, and rather than speaking at the outrage of killing every dragon in sight.. including defenseless hatchlings, Anduril II merely averted his eyes. Anduril remembers the world of old, the treetop villages of his homeland and longs for them in a way that only a elf can. He does not speak of his memories, and feeling outcast and unwelcome in the village on our demi-plane, Anduril has taken to living outside the community, enduring the silence and cold since the first days when his father, gone mad with the curse of being transformed into the very creature he despised the most, left him alone. He used this time in penance to earn leniency from Io, and praying to Wee-Jas.

Poker face. I was asumeing younger elves, in dnd elves can die of old age at 350 years. An adult elf is 100 and some years. More importantly is the story impact, a 322 year elf lived 122 years outside of the curse meaning he would of been a dragon hunter. This thread assumed all the dragon hunters have been dead for some time which is likely since living in a land full of battle 2/3s of the year shortens ones life expectancy.

Screech, I missed that fact but your character was 16 before the curse started and technicaly is the equivilant of a 49 year old human. So I recamend 110 to 130.

Important.

My internet just stopped working properly and it may take some time to fix so my posting is going to be ilregular.

Characters information

Name: Vincent
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Race: Half elf
Dragon Type: Bronze
Class: Ranger
Build: Athletic, Slim
Hair: Blonde, short hair
Eyes: Blue
Possessions: Composite bone longbow, Dual quiver (40 arrows), 3 Throwing Daggers, Shortsword, Green leather armor.
Bio: Son to a human barbarian and an elven wizard. Vincent didnt get along with either of his parents. His mothers rage and smash attitude made her a horrible person to deal with. His father was no better, but instead of rage he looked at everything as an excuse to flaunt his arcane knowledge and study. This drove Vincent to spending alot of time in the wilderness alone, where he taught himself to how to shoot a bow. As the years passed he soon became a accomplished hunter, but he wasnt strong enough to save his parents that fateful day when a hunter patrol caught his parents off guard and killed them. After that Vincent spent all of his time living outdoors and patroling the country side, almost never coming back into his village except to help feed them and trade for supplies. When the dragon hunters come he always acts as a scout to warn people when and where the hunters will attack.
Vincent's lone wolf tactics have led him to almost be killed on several occasions, so he tends to stay hidden and attack from afar. Preferably from ontop a tree or ledge that will give some advantage. In the times where the fighting must be done up close he tries to use his nautral agility to offset his attackers greater strength.
Vincent has become a skilled acrobat from his time in in the wilderness, climbing tree's and scaling rock. Through his phyiscal strength may be less then most peoples, its his stamina that he really shines with.

His bow was taken from the hunter that killed his parents, it seems to be more durable then it should be. This has led Vincent to believe that it may have some sort of magical properties, but it is just an educated guess.
