OOC: City of the Drow

This will be a OOC thread that will have as a setting a Drow Elf ( or Dark elf) city and will deal mainly with everyday life at the city, that includes war between the diferent Houses, intrigue and all those naughty things Drow are famous for... of course it is recommended for the characters to be Drow elves, although other races are permitted... but they will have to deal with the consequences of being outsiders in the Drow city...

If you are not very familiar with the Drow elf race, their customs or want to play a character of another race please post a message or Pm me. I will post more information about the city later on...

Her backgroud is she is the eldest daughter of the formor Matron of the house. She was raised, Lolith loving and blessing her. The family insignia is the spider, holding a black rose in one hand and a longsword in another.

She is now Matron and does not accept insulence in her House. Men are exactly what they are, almost servants, but a little higher in the rankings. Bread only for amuzement and the occasional romp. Disposed of when she bores of them.

Question, are we going to have levels and if so what level. Let me know and I will finish my background.

Is the eldest son of the former Matron Mother, has lead many victories over other houses because of his unbeatable skills with the sword and all of his magic equipment he carries on hsi body, he is the quickes blade in all the realms, seems to vanish at will when he likes, serves the new Matron Mother. Has many contacts with Bregan De'earthe, a Drow merc group, has been known, he has a lot of connections through the city as well, he trains many males to learn how to fight. He has killed thousands of males and many preistess of Loth.

Good Character, I take it you Like R.A. Salvatore... I am a fan of his writing myself... have read The whole Dark elf trilogy and the Legacy of the Drow and Paths of Darkness series, as well as the Icewind Dale Trilogy, all these from R.A. Salvatore.

Ive also read the books " Daughter of the Drow " and " Tangled Webs " from Elaine Cunningham, and The Book " Evermeet: Island of Elves " which also has a lot of information on the Drow, particularly where Loth comes from...

I even read the smallhistory of how Gwenhyvar was created... the story comes in the book " Realms of Magic ".

Sea of Swords is a good book, not my favorite of Salvatore, but a good book...

Your character is ok, you just need to say which house you belong to... We already have one Matron Mother ( ARaynes ) and I will be playing a Matron of a rival House...

Character concept: Shi'nayne

I would be interested in playing... if you don't mind a total newbie . This is a character concept I've had floating around for years and never had the chance to play. So tell me what you think

The Dark Elves have many slaves, ranging from menial goblins and kobolds to those who were once Kings and Queens in the lands under the Sun. But of all these slaves, none have higher status than the fighting-slaves, orcs, bugbears, and other creatures stranger and more terrible, who think that they are not slaves but mercenaries or even allies. Someone must make sure that these slaves perform the tasks set them by the nobility of the Drow, and that someone won't be a noble, for they have far more pressing tasks*, but one of the common drow.

Shi'nayne is one of these drow. Born to a common family, she entered the school of wizardry (a lesser occupation than the priesthood, of course, but commoners can't be choosy). There she excelled at spells of mind-bending, and as a result she was assigned to help mind the non-drow troops, and soon participated in a raid on a neighbouring dro... a peaceful defensive border patrol, which just happened to stumble upon some rebel orcs, and gain revenge for their revolt against our good allies in a neighbouring drow city.

Be that as it may, she discovered she liked the task of "managing" the troops, whether by intimidation, ensorcellment, or ... other ... means. She spent much time with them, and, as a result, far more time on patrol outside the City than most drow. She learned to handle swords out of sheer self-defence, and became very familiar with the wild underdark. And as one of the few Drow of the noble houses who deals much with lesser creatures (aka non-drow), she has become something of a diplomat. She's quite devout. She's much much lower status than a matron mother, but Houses are small and Drow live long - I imagine it would be like going to high school for 100 years, everyone would know you. She would be too obscure for nobles of other houses to know of.

In physical terms, she's young (not much over 100) and athletic. She has white hair. When she lets it down it's waist-length, but that's rare. Her eyes, like those of most drow, are coloured very palely, a shade of lilac in her case. She normally wears the dark clothing of a warrior.

In 1st-2nd edition terms, she would be a low-level fighter/magic-user. In third edition terms, I am thinking ranger/wizard. This makes more sense than you'd think, provided a few small changes are made, as 3rd ed rangers can be evil. If she ever reaches 4th level ranger Lolth will start granting her ranger spells, including every drow's favourite, "Spider Friendship".

She can be a member of whichever House most needs another character.

You can be part of house Lylyl whose matron mother is played by AR, or you can be part of the Hpuse which I will be playing matron ( the name is House Xi´ildra ), these are the 2 Houses up till now...

The citys name... Narsil... a small city by Drow city standards... the Families of this city are not very old... The city was founded not long time ago.

We will use the usual ranking of houses in Drow cities... The first eight ( or was it seven? ) Houses will have a place at the Drow council... Lets say House Xi´lidra is the 3rd and House Lylyl is the 4th House of Narsil...
