Alright, it's been a while since I created any threads, so bear with me.
this thread is only open to people who have read at least the fist two books of Robert Jordan's The Wheel Of Time . I'm not trying to exclude anyone, but the thread will be based to closely on the setting in the books to allow for non-readers to join. (I've tried winging it before with people who didn't know the background, and it just leads to too many misunderstandings)

Only the setting and history of the series is being used.
The thread will be a mystery/fantasy, with members posting their bio's here.

Premise

I want to try to base this on The Great Hunt, as occurred in Book two of the series. None of the events of the book have transpired, and the Forsaken are still bound within the bore. (Except for Ishmael, but that's recorded within the books' history)

Everyone can create any character they want, but must remember the following points:
No specific characters from the books.
If you choose a type, such as Aes Sedai, try to play the part accordingly. (e.g., if you choose a Warder, you need a reason why you're not with a Sister, unless you've teamed with another player who is Aes Sedai)
No invincible characters. Everyone has certain weaknesses in real life, and this should be no different.

I intend to run this slightly different than most threads. Rather than starting with everyone joining together in a quest, as usual, this is solitary or team effort.
You are all out to get the Horn of Valour for yourselves, either for its value, prestige, whatever, your motive is up to you, but you should play that accordingly.
I will not actively participate in the hunt, but will instead create occasional NPC's to give you hints, create forces of nature, etc.
I will also create a character, who will be a Hunter for the Horn, but he will be rather incompetant, serving solely to allow you as the players to attempt to find the clues I have hidden in his misadventures to find the Horn. (By the way, the Horn is not in the Eye, as it was in the books.)

If you are interested, create a bio, and state where you come from. It can be anywhere, so long as it remains on this side of the Arythe. (I don't want to see any Seanchan, remember, that storyline doesn't exist in this thread)

I will elucidate further once I begin to see how much response this gets, and what kind of characters are being played. Feel free to ask any questions you wish.

Blaze

Blaze,

Any powers yet, like for example, the Kids(before they grew up) were pretty much ignorant of magic? So how far the powers go?

(Aes Sedai-I remember that word...LOL)

Z

Powers are (more or less) up to you. They match with your character type.
Example:
Aes Sedai
Has command of Saidar , the female half of the One Power. This power has 5 sub groups: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Spirit.
Women usually are stronger in Air and Water. A woman's individual strength dictates her abilities.
If you were to play a man with the Power, He would draw from Saidin , the male half of the One Power.
Males tend to be stronger in earth and fire. Spirit is shared between them. (there are, of course, exceptions.)
Males, unfortunately, eventually go insane, because Saidin is tainted by the Dark One.

If you were to play a warrior, you would of course have no powers.
The only people with powers are:
Aes Sedai
Wilders (Women who have learned by themselves to use their power, and are not affiliated with the Aes Sedai. These tend to be very rare, since 3/4 of women not trained tend to die from the Power. They are also usually much more limited in their abilities, due to lack of training. They tend to avoid Aes Sedai at all costs)
males: Certain rare males have the power. These are all 'wilders', and have many of the attributes. All will at some point begin to go insane. (If you play this character, a certain degree of eraticism should begin to enter your character's demeanor as the thread continues)
Darklords: These are males and females, who have joined the Dark One and use their powers for him. Male Darklords do not go insane, due to the fact the Dark One is able to protect them from the effects of the Taint.

Yesssssssss

Bout frickin time someone came up with this idea. I think I mentioned this in one of the new threads idea a while back, but leave it up to Blaze to try and pull it off. I would like to be a warder if anyone wants to be my Aes Sedai.

Hey Blaze, are you going to allow anyone to be the actual main characters in the book? If so, I got Lan.

Chewey

You're completely free to try to base your character on Lan, (just don't claim to be Aan Alain- One Man) but no specific characters from the books.
The events of the books don't take place in this thread. (Think of it as one of those Portal Stone dimensions: here, the seals havn't begun to erode yet, hence no true Dragon Reborn yet)As for being a warder, you can try to go it alone, without an Aes Sedai, though you'd have to have a good history to explain why you're not with her. Alternatively, you can wait to see if someone wants to play a Sister with you.

Blaze

OMG its Blaze.......hehehe

I did not think you came on until it was dark out lol. Ok, that is cool. I want to be a warder and am hoping one of the beautiful women of lit will want to OWN me... hehehe. I love all of his books, have read the series at least five or six times. Have you ever read his Conan series, they are good too.

Chewey

Never read any of those.
I've read this series dozens of times, and I have books 1-9, plus the accompaniment volume by Robert Jordan and Teresa Patterson.

Blaze

The Conan books were very good too. Obviously it is not as rich of a world as his other books, since he is using someone elses premise , but they are good nonetheless.

I have all the books except the first, I loaned it out and the person lost it. *waah*

Chewey

OK Blaze, you've talked me into being the force of chaotic destruction for the thread (hell, how could I resist! lol).

I'll be popping in at random to post about a natural disaster, a major battle, political unrest, etc...from time to time to let you know about world events that are likely to affect your quest - just to keep all you players on your toes! Muahahahahahahahaha http://www.contrabandent.com/cwm/s/cwm/3dlil/mwah.gif

Hi Blaze,

I'm in if you accept the idea of a character from me:

I'm thinking in the lines of a lonely wanderer, no magic, just sword, bow and his traveling bag. No home, or family.

Sorry, Blaze and Chewey, but I gave away all my Robert Jordan's, so I can't remember a darn thing about it.

Blaze anyway you could attach a map of the world? Hate it when everybody starts off on a quest but they didn't do the map and geography first...and in the end everybody has no idea where they are or where they are going...

Z

Hey crysede , want to be my Aes Sedai? You could be from the Green Ajah, they sometimes married their warders.......

Chewey

Here's the map. (I'm including only geography this side of the Aryth Ocean, the Horn will not be in Seanchan, Shara or the Land of the Madmen.

I'd love to Chewey, but I really can't handle a full time part in this thread :(, I'm having enough trouble keeping up with my other threads right now - that's why I went with Blaze's idea about just showing up here and there with a nice disaster or war.

Ok, I understand *tears* lol

No problem, just figured that I would ask since you had sort of read the books.

Hey blaze, do you have any problems with us using two characters. This way , I could be the warder and the aes sedai too. Just wondering, since we dont seem to have a lot of players as of yet.

Chewey

Give it a little more time, first, I want to see if anyone else is up for joining this thread.
I'll give it until Monday night, then I'll let you know.

Blaze

Ok, cool. I will probably post my warder at least that way it is done. And have his Aes Sedai off on a mission of her own unless she is needed.

Chewey

Hey guys - I'd love to join in - I got up to about the 6th or 7th RJ book and I read them all over the past year so I'm preety up to date with it all.

Chewy - if you're still looking I'll be your Aes Sadai - be pateint with me though while I get to grips with playing a slightly different character to my usual type *grin*

I'll think about this a bit and then post a character description.

One warning though I'm off on hols on the 14th of June for 3 weeks so maybe we could work somehting into the plot line early on to allow for my absence - up to that time I post pretty regularly.

Excellent Idea Petrel, that would be great. Maybe this thread will move a little faster LOL. See, you wanted a new thread and here it is.

Chewey

Kisses to Petrel , my Aes Sedai

Ok here it goes.........

Name : Nestrum al'Brigten
Race: Human
City : Illian
Occupation: Warder
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 240 lbs

Background: Nestrum has always had a knack for weapons play even as a lad. His father was a lord of his village, so Nestrum did not want for anything. His father, seeing his early aptitude for weapon play, hired a trainer for him at the tender age of 6. He is highly skilled at sword play and also uses the quarterstaff with high ability.

One day, a group of Aes Sedai were traveling through his village , Slanards Peak, just outside of Illian. His father offered for them to sup with him and his family and the Aes Sedai accepted. This was Nestrums first encounter with these mysterious women and he was enchanted by their power. He also was able to meet the warders. Being 15 at the time, Nestrum offered to have a friendly duel with one of the warders to show how skilled he was. Nestrum was heavily pressed but was about to prevail when the mans Aes Sedai wrapped him up in flows of air. Everyone laughed at this great joke, even Nestrum.

Nestrum remembered that day with pride, increasing his profeciency with weapons so that he was awarded a Heron blade, the mark of a blade master. At the age of 17, Nestrum asked his fathers leave to go to Tar Valon to become a warder. Having older sons, his father allowed him to pursue his dream. Nestrum quickly went through his warder training, having been prepareing for this for years.

During his training, he caught the eye of of the Green Ajah. He agreed to become her warder, to guard her with his life. They have been a team for a short time. Her position within her Ajah, forces her to go off onto solo undercover missions in which she has to go without Nestrum. He is saddened by this, but understands that she has a job to do , just like he does. Sometimes, she loans him out to other sisters to help give them some more support. Nestrum is not real happy with this arrangement, but he does what he is told.

Ok, now that should give Petrel the background to go off of, and also explain her vacation lol.
