A friend and I have recently rediscovered our love of the game City of Heroes. We plan to pick up City of Villains soon as well and proceed to fight for great justice!

Anyway, it got me thinking about my roleplaying days in the pre-beta boards (yes, I was there) and I wanted to revisit the setting in a free-form roleplay again. Obviously this will be a thread for fans of the game, though anyone familiar with the setting is welcome to join. Just post up a character.

Roster (still open)
Jackal
Striker
Miss Mystic
Torch Song
Volt Master

Name: Jack Reinhardt
Alias: Jackal
Age: 22
Race: Gypsy
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 152 lbs
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Appearance: Jack is a slender young man with long black hair and an impish grin always plastered to his face. He's very nimble and agile, moving with a swaggering grace. His olive skin shows only a couple of scars, and his eyes glitter with mischief.
His costume is very simplistic, consisting of a pair of baggy trousers held up by a sash which holds the holsters for his katars and kukri, a pair of soft-souled boots, an open vest, and an assortment of handmade jewelry. It gives him a high degree of mobility and allows him to better show off his physique during his favorite pastime: shameless flirting, bravado, and grandstanding.

Powers: Plain and simple, Jack is a speedster. His superspeed is only matched by his preternatural reflexes. The source of his powers are still a mystery, though they appear to be magical in nature. He uses a pair of katars and a kukri as his favored weapons, both of which he crafted himself.

Origin: Jack always displayed a preternatural gift for track athletics growing up, but it wasn't until the Rikti War came that his powers manifested in their fullest. He had always worked at the Renaissance Festival in Perez Park, apprenticing for a time as a blacksmith under a family friend by the name of Jimmy Phillips. He used his skills to craft his weapons that he still weilds today.

Most of Jack's time was spent defending small neighborhoods in Galaxy City, then still Paragon Heights. He learned to fight from other refugees and honed his own fighting style. He became a symbol of hope for the neighborhood as no matter how bleak the situation was, he was always ready with a joke and a smile.

In the days following the Rikti War, Jackal has taken up a personal mission against The Lost. Though the strange group's actions are mostly confined to lower class districts, Jackal lost several close friends to their kidnappings. The most painful moment of which was when only a year ago he took on a cadre of Lost himself while they raided a warehouse in King's Row. Among those he brought in, he recognized none other than Jimmy Phillips who had gone missing in the Rikti War. Seeing his mentor corrupted by these mutated lunatics, the young gypsy began concentrating his efforts to bringing them down.

I don't know anything about this but I am reading the website of the game so getting an idea of a characters and concepts, so I will get back to you, but I wanted to let you know that I might be interested. :)

Bah! You meddling do-gooders are a constant thorn in the side of villainy!

Saying that, it would be fun to be the heroic type again! Think I'll impant my first ever hero...

Name: Steve Saunders
Alias: Striker
Age: 37
Race: Human - American
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 199 lbs
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Appearance: Steve is a powerfully built man, and in more ways than one! His athletic frame belies his true weight, as he is no longer 100% flesh. His left forarm is, in fact, constructed entirely from metal, along with an integrated optical network wired directly into his nervous system. He bears many scars, although these are normally always covered up
His costume, if you could really call it that, is quite complex. He has constructed for himself a fully operational armoured battlesuit, powered by a minute, and safely contained, fusion battery. His battlesuit encompases most of his body, but not his head. Steve's technological skills have gone into the creation of a tactical helmet and rebreather system that allows him to keep his true identity fairly secret

Powers: Steve is not powered per se, but rather his battle suit is. He can direct energy direct from the fusion battery and into his fists, charging them for maximum stunning impacts. Also, it can operate a low-level force barrier which dampens incoming blows

Origin: Steve was from a military family. His father was a soldier, and his father, and his. So it was expected for him to enter the military too, even if he was more comfortable around his bodges creations, and none too tough. Not that his father cared much. He always told Steve that "The military will make a man out of you, boy!"

He didn't know how right he was. Like most people, he was taken unaware by the sudden invasion of the Rikti, and their even more sudden sectioning of Paragon City, where he lived. He was on R&R when it happened, and one of the first casualies. He was caught in a blast from a Rikti blaster, disintegrating his left forarm. His nerves didn't register the pain, and Steve was able to flee.

It took him a few days, but James was able to fasion a crude claw as a replacement for his missing arm, in addition to a few other gadgets. Combined with other cobbled together bits and pieces, he took to the streets again to combat the alien menace in the Gold District of Steel Canyon. Not long after, the Rikti moved underground, and started their gurilla war.

In the years after the war, Steve was discharged from military service due to his injuries, and devoted his time into the creation of a fully operational battle system in which he could lend proper aid to the people of Paragon City. Not particularly enthused with any thug or villain group, he reserved his anger for the mages of the Circle of Thorns. They, more than anyone in his solo career, have been responsable for him waking up in a hospital teleport chamber

Giving this a quick bump. To let everyone know, I thought it might be easier to keep this moving if we establish the seeds of story arcs.

For example, to make things less complicated for Jackal and anyone teaming up with him, his initial story arc is going to revolve around a specific mission against The Lost.

I'll join, simply because I used to play my brother's copy of the game (he stopped for a month or so back because he needed to conserve some cash. I'm thinking about getting my own copy soon.) Maybe those that want to can get together to form a super group in game and roleplay it like on here, lol.

Name: Maria Masters
Alias: Mystic Miss
Age: 20
Race: American, Caucasian
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 120 lb.
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Green
Appearance: Maria is not the biggest, nor strongest hero ever. Infact, she looks rather weak when standing next to some of the other heroes. With blonde hair down to her shoulders, her skin looks extremely fragile. However, she isn't as breakable as she appears. She is a bit muscular, but in no way is she going to win a fist fight. Slender legs and arms and sporting a 36b chest.
Her costume is white tights, covered in light purple lines or spirals. Around her waist, she wears a simple white belt with purple decorations on it. Around her eyes, she wears a white mask. On her back, she wears a slightly transparent cape that is alterating white and purple.
Sometimes, she is caught wearing a bit more flirty of an outfit. She wears smaller white gloves and a purple/white plaid skirt. She also wears a purple sports bra, covered by a small purple & white vest. She still wears the same boots, belt, and mask as the other outfit.

Powers: Maria's powers started out minor, but have slowly been growing in strength. She not only has the ability to heal herself and others, but can even resurrect others from near death. She has also learned to harness the energies needed for most hero's powers, causing them to replenish faster. She can even fill others with great fortitude.
On the offense front, she is still rather weak compared to most heros. She has been able to increase the distance and strength of her mental attacks, but at much effort to herself. She has also tapped into a minor telekinetic ability.
Physically, her mental powers have allowed her to pick up the pace of her movements. Her telekinesis has also allowered her the ability to fly without effort. And finally, she has been able to use her mind to physically transport people, one at a time, to her from a great distance.

Origin: Maria was a fairly average girl growing up. The issues involving the heroes, villians, and all that stuff had nothing to do with her normal life. One day, she went on a trip to the mall with her sister when a group of Trolls attacked them. Both were badly injured in the attack, but before the Trolls could kill any of them, Maria felt something grow in her. Before she knew it, both Trolls were on their knees, wimpering in pain as they clutched their heads. She also discovered that both her and her sister were fully healed of the wounds they had suffered at the hands of the Trolls.
No longer just an average girl, Maria's sister convinced her to join the cause of the Heroes, taking up a persona to help fight evil.
Since she has became a hero, she has done much in her short career. She has managed to not only aid a team of heros save Sam Wilcott in the Cavern of Transcendence, but has also aided Positron himself in stopping plots by the Clockwork, Vahzilok, and the Circle of Thorns. Recently, she has been awarded a cape in honor of Hero 1 for her efforts in protecting the city.

Hey yeah. Small super-team taking on The Lost! Guess there will probably be a fair bit of action against thm...

And an actual in-game team up? I'm all for that. Only thing being if we'll all be on at the same time

As I've got the game up and running, I could always try and knock up screenshots of the characters...

do you happen to have a link on the Charchters that I may look at and choose?? Because I don't think I have heard of it...

I paid my brother for his account, so now I'm playing the game. Mystic Miss (the other one was taken) is on the Justice server. With the whole double xp weekend and some really good teams, I was able to reach lvl 14 last night/this morning. Which means I can fly now....yippee.

Hiya! I just got back into CoH and I'd really have fun with a thread like this. Here's my character.

Name: Eleanor "Ellie" Barnes
Alias: Torch Song
Age: 21
Race: Human, Caucasian
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 130 lbs
Hair: Chestnut Brown
Eyes: Blue
Appearance: Torch Song is of average height, and has an shapely, even lush build. Her face is elfin and delicate, with soulful blue eyes and lusterous straight hair parted in the middle that falls to her shoulders. Her hair often falls over the left side of her face. She has a pert firm butt, long legs, and large, firm 38D breasts.

Her costume is made of a series of light blue straps crossing her body in parallel lines, both concealing and revealing a great deal of skin. On the largest strap that runs down the center of her chest there is a golden torch symbol with a white flame. She wears elbow length gloves and knee high stiletto heeled boots, also light blue. She wears a light blue domino mask to conceal her identity.

Powers: Torch Song's can generate and control remarkable amounts of sonic energy through her voice. She can emit sonic screams that can batter and blast foes, but her powers are mainly defensive. She can create vibrational shields to protect her teammates, weaken the defenses of her enemies, and imprison them in cages of sound. Ellie has recently learned how to fly

Origin: Ellie was born to wealthy parents who were terribly disappointed that she wasn't a son. Bright and gifted with a heavenly voice, Ellie was trained early on in operatic singing. Her parents made her practice endlessly, refusing to allow her to a social life. They didn't need to do much, as Ellie was sweet and shy, but was a mousy, plain looking young woman. As much as she enjoyed singing and the operas she studied, Ellie fell in love with jazz and rock n' roll, especially loving sad love songs. Even after she was enrolled in a private arts college, she would sneak out to local bars and night spots to catch shows.

Returning home one evening, she was kidnapped by a mysterious group of scientists. They were attempting to make thier own super humans by using a machine made of Rikti technology, that would reshape a subject according to the whims of the user. She was strapped in and the machine activated. However, before the operator started to work, a team of heroes interrupted and attacked. The machine, without an operator, drew on Ellie's will to remake her body. She passed out from the pain, but whens he awoke, she had been transformed into a buxom vixen with incredible sonic powers.

To honor the heroes that had rescued her, and in a desire to completely reinvent herself, Ellie decided to become a hero. Though she is still a little shy, she also wants to show off her new self, and thus designed her costume to show off. Torch Song hasn't been active as a hero for long, but despises the Lost above all villain groups for the way they prey on weak people and those with broken spirits, as she once was.

Nice. So far we've got:

Jackal
Striker
Miss Mystic
Torch Song

Would you guys like to try to get a couple more players before I open up the IC thread? Or would you like to start now with the story arc with The Lost and invite more people as we go on?

I'm all up for starting now. I'm also in the process of getting screencaptures of the various costumes

Striker

And, I hope I got this right...

Miss Mystic

I love City of Heroes! Is this thread still open to characters? I'd really like to join if it is.

Here's the character I'd like to use. Though if this idea doesn't work out, I have others.

Name: Jason Cross
Alias: Volt Master (III)
Age: 24
Race: Human (American citizen)
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 200 lbs
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Electric Blue

Appearance: Jason is tall and broad shouldered, his frame well muscled. His features are strong and handsome, his eyes intelligent and expressive. His hair is on the short side, parted in the middle, the bangs jutting out over his forehead. His eyes crackle with electricity and when angered or anxious, arcs of brilliant blue electricity ripple over his body.

His costume is a skintight bodysuit that is primarily black. Vertical stripes of electric blue run down the sides and legs of his costume, ending in a jagged lightning bolt on his boots. He wears rounded shoulderpads, black with blue trim, and has similar electric blue stripes down the arms of his costume, also ending in lightning bolts on his gloves. He wears a blue belt of many small compartments with a white belt buckle. On the chest of his suit is a blue lightning bolt insignia. He wears a black mask that covers his forehead and the area around his eyes and nose, though the bottom and top of his head are uncovered.
(I know it sounds odd, but I had a hard time figuring out how to describe it. I'll post a pic soon.)

Powers: Volt Master's body is a living dynamo, constantly generating and storing electrical energy. He can release this energy as powerful blasts, from small quick zaps to mighty lighting bolts. He can fire ball lightning that will harm all foes in an area, and create electrical "explosions" centered on himself. He has also found a way to make an "electric fence" around an enemy, holding them place and jolting them at the same time. He can also release electricity by touch, and has developed a few electricity enhanced punches. He can also fly, and often fights from the air.

Origin: Volt Master first appeared in Paragon City on the eve of World War II. Gaining his powers from gloves and boots that channeled electricity, he battled evil until vanishing from the public life in 1958. Volt Master, or rather, Alexander Cross, retired from heroing after the destruction of his gadgets. Seeing the tide of public opinion, he thought the world didn't deserve heroes anymore.

20 years later, his son Tyler Cross manifested strange electrical powers on his 18th birthday. Soon after, he discovered the truth about his father's past as a super hero. It turned out that the tech the elder Cross had used changed his DNA, introducing a stable mutation that granted his son powers. Tyler was a reluctant hero, who took up the mantle of Volt Master in response to an attack by the 5th Column. He made a name for himself, even though he was only an active hero for 5 years. After that, he retired to fight crime as an attorney rather than a hero.

Nonetheless, he told his son Jason stories of his exploits, as well as those of his grandfather. Young Jason became a scholar of super heroes and villains, studying them almost obsessively. His own electrical powers emerged on his 16th birthday, and he immediately made plans to become the new Volt Master. However, his parents did not want thier son to live such a dangerous life. They argued bitterly, neither side refusing to budge. Finally, they made a deal Jason would not seek out any kind of like as a hero until he had graduated from college.

Jason studied dillegently, and his parents grew hopeful that he had forgotten the legacy of his family. He worked hard and didn't speak of being a hero. Then, on the night of his graduation from Paragon University (Bachelor's of Science, Electrical Engineering), he dressed in a costume based on the one his grandfather wore and went out into the night to claim his legacy.

Yes, we're still open to new players. Welcome aboard. I'll update the first post with a roster of players.

Yo Doc! Seems we posted at near the same time, so I've gone back and added a bit to my post

I edited my bio on here. Here is a list of changes I made.
- Name change. I decided to go with Mystic Miss (since that is my name in CoH).
- Altered my history to include some things I've done in game.
- Altered my appearance description to include both costumes my character wears.
- Added links to pictures.

I'll post to the thread right now.

Just a quick question, what are to assume for the level of our heroes? Are we all at the same power level or is it variable?

I was thinking everyone would be around level 14 (for travel powers like flight and super speed), but people seem to be both above and below that.

Or am I making a mountain out of a molehill? Just asking.

well, I'm running Striker at his current level of 17, with a couple of changes

Don't adhere too strictly to levels here. In the game, we all start out at level 1, but the way I play Jack, he spent months fighting in the Rikti War and has always been a speedster.

So, it's the setting of City of Heroes, but feel free to take some liberties with your characters. Just don't go overbaord, you know?

Hmmm......interesting. Are villains available? I have one that might work rather well.
