i have another brilliant, but different, idea! :)

the book of darkness is the antithesis to the bible. it contains stories, predictions, teachings dedicated to the dominance of evil in the world. characters do not necessarily interact although i would like a explanation of your purpose behind whatever chapter of the book you contribute to... (if you write the gospel of balthasar - who is balthasar and why is he important enough to be in the book of darkness?)

write the story of a dark prophet, compose odes to evil, discuss the beginning of the world according to satan...

whatever you like

:)

Cool...
Might I suggest, instead of just a thread, maybe you make this a chain story in the Lit. Archives. You could get quite a few writers together for this sort of project, maybe compose enough to make a small book.
Either way, I'll contribute.

a small book? ek! :p

but about the lit archive... i like this interactive forum... more open that way to anyone and informal... and chain stories don't seem that popular...

so, anyone else up for a ramble on darkness? :)

I'm always up for a little contributing.
I have a queston, how far can we go on things? Does this have to be fact based at all? I don't want to go lounging around in a library for hours trying to find out about some old guy who claimed to worship the devil.
If we can do fictitious things, how fictitious can we be? Can we just make up anything and everything? How constricted or free are we on this?

I rather like the idea as well, though I have much the same questions as Poohlive. I'm in, if you can answer those first.

Well I'm in and the archives way sounds good to me but any way you want to do this you can count me in.

so many questions! :p

how far can we go on things?
hard to explain this one... depends on what you wanna do... i'd prefer you leave the modern world the way it is (although you can say george w bush is a minion of satan, sure!)... it might be easier to use the bible as a sorta model and place events a few thousand years ago (evil cave man serves demon and rapes/pillages... offspring results as trolloc-like monsters)... well... maybe not back to cave man days... but it would be easier not to mention the present except as prophecy (ie revelation)... otherwise, if you're some prophet of medieval days, whatever catches your interest... i really don't know how else to answer unless you have an idea or example...
something that might help - modern day has a balance or continuing struggle between good/evil... so neither "rules" the world... may be periods where one or the other is slightly more dominant though...

does this have to be fact based at all? i don't want to go lounging around in a library for hours trying to find out about some old guy who claimed to worship the devil.
pish! library? what's that? (sigh, i'll find out when i have more papers to do in another few months...)
is there a real book of darkness? i wouldn't know... but do you have to research the writings of satanists or black magicians, NO! why would i ever make you do that? :p
make up events and monsters as you wish... like greek/roman myths... which the bible can debatably be compared to for truth for some (but i'm not going to discuss that!)...

if we can do fictitious things, how fictitious can we be? can we just make up anything and everything?
um... tenatively, sure?
the greek/roman myths are the best thing i can point to... and if you're into poetry (or like the pslams in the bible), well, ramble on how you'd like about evil/darkness/corruption/etc...
if you wanna go into history a bit... stick with the general story line although you can alter whatever you want (say something like mary queen of scots was a bride of the devil and acted accordingly holding vile demonic orgies to influence her cousin, but she never became queen of england... so don't make her the queen)... if the historical context is debatable or it isn't known what really happened, do whatever...

how constricted or free are we on this?
go mythlike. tell history. be abstract on the nature of darkness. compose odes and hymns to darkness. act as a prophet of satan and tell the story of your life in the world.
be creative. use your imagination! :)

well i'm in and the archives way sounds good to me but any way you want to do this you can count me in.
depending on what everyone wants to write... you don't HAVE to colloborate on one story although you're welcome to... the thread can be disjointed between several different lines... when the thread gets long enough and i'm bored in real life, i suppose i might organize the various lines (or not if it's good the way it is), i can submit it into the chain writer archive part of lit... but i like the bulletin board cause it's open and easier than corresponding by email constantly... this way everyone can see what's going on and it'll move faster (if i'm not weird cause i wait ages to reply to email sometimes)... and i don't mind new people jumping in :)

THAT was certainly long and i don't know if i really answered anything concretly... feel free to ask more... sounds like there's enough interest to start the actual thread soon... woohoo! :D

So basically, we each serve as prophets, somewhat akin to the ones from the Bible, (though obviously beholden to a different mythos) and we are to provide interpretations of the events around us as pertaining to the mythos to which we describe, that being Satanic?
Sounds good to me, just call me Blaze-hovah!
*grins*

be a prophet if you'd like, but it's not necessary... you can be the opposite of a saint and dwell on the nature of evil. or even try to create proof that satan exists. or explain why bad things happen to good people in a dark perspective. :D

as long as it revolves around the theme of darkness or evil :)

I'd like to join, but a question: is a fairly confused, mix n' match mythology okay? I've got a use for Satan in my vague idea for my part, but it might also be fun to have Lovecraftian Outer God entities lurking around the border of the world and anything else the group's twisted imaginations come up with ;)

i'll tell you the truth...

i have absolutely no clue what you're talking about

but, hey, if lovecraftian outer gods rock your boat...

go ahead :)

i think i'll put up the thread in a few days... so check for it soon! :)

any other questions?

in order to post the thread, i'll have to come up with something creative about evil... hmm... :D

this should hopefully pick up a bit once the actual thread is up... :)

bump!

everyone still with me?

someone post... since i have three in a row... and i don't wanna be sad and talk to myself in this thread :p

I'm still with you, and I think everyone else is too. THey're just waiting for something to reply to. Post here when you get the regular thread up, so we don't miss it on the board...

What he said.

Start it whenever you're ready Princess. Lead and we will follow.

alright! the thread is up with my revised version of genesis...

if anyone wants to keep going, feel free... ask if you want what the next few elements are or make a few up (only seven days? who says there can't be nine? :p)

a suggestion for anyone who want to do the last chaper - call it omega... thought it worked well with calling the first chaper alpha :D

if you want to jump and start another chapter, go ahead... it doesn't have to be continuous or even follow the bible at all... just name the chapter and use it in the subject line so we all know what it is...

i don't really care if you decide to continue someone's chapter or make up your own to write about... i think it would be fun to have a few chapters going on different topics of darkness (i can always sort it all out later when submitting to the lit archives when it gets that far <crossing fingers> :))

that was great lethe!

and very very wicked ;)

everyone else... go post! :)

Okay, I've jumped forward rather in Bible terms; my chapter was a pastiche of the second book of Samuel (the style is meant to represent a strange mixture of narrative detachment and Biblical record-keeping, and the jumbled up thoughts of one rather insane guy). Hope you all like it :)

Hopefully you don't mind my using Jonadab, Lethe. I just went with what struck me.

Also, I guess I'll have to write the Book of Weisenalt out of order, as I had to start later in the book.

Let me know if I went too far. And no, if you were wondering, I wasn't trying to make Jonadab the Anti-christ, just sort of...well, the Anti-Lazarus...if you will.

Any problems, let me know...there's always that edit button, y'know.
;)

I used your format, Lethe, and bolded the names of other characters, thinking that someone else might use them for their own branch of the "gospel," Maybe help things mesh together better.

So, who's up next?
;)
