All had been peaceful, well, peaceful except for the petty humans and their petty wars, for a hundred years. The clans of blood-drinkers and lycanthropes maintained an uneasy truce; many integrated with humans and hid their true nature, while still others kept to their own in remote villages. One fateful day, all that changed.
It began in a remote village, when four people bearing the mark of the wolf were found dead, the bodies drained of blood. Naturally, the werewolves retailiated, even though the targets of their revenge denied any involvement or knowledge. Thus began a war, carried out in the shadows among the unsuspecting humans, but neither the vampires or the werewolves are aware of outside forces watching and revelling in the chaos.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC:The basic premise is a war between vampires and werewolves in a medieval fantasy world, instigated by the aforementioned attack. Some werewolves and vampires live in secluded groups, and others live with humans. Both are ancient races that maintain clan ties and secret societies.
Werewolves can sense other werewolves, and Vampires can sense other vampires, but to humans and each other, a vampire is only identifiable by its pronounced canines, an a werewolf by a small paw-print shaped scar somewhere on it's body.
The attack cause old prejudices between the two to well up. Werewolves think vampires are barbaric because they have to feed on humans, and vampires think of werewolves as inferior, boorish animals.
As for the characteristics of vampires and werewolves, it's mostly standard fare. Both are stronger and faster than humans, with werewolves the stronger and faster of the two. Vampires can move around in daylight, provided their skin is covered by a cloak or something, but they can't shapeshift into bats or anything else. They can be killed only by a pierce wound directly through the heart.
Werewolves transform into a man/wolf form, but not completely into a wolf. (Why will be explained later) They can be killed only by a specially anointed silver weapon (of course).
In the case of both races, one can be transformed by being attacked, but not by being killed, or if both of one's parents are vampires or werewolves, one is born a vampire or werewolf, but absolutely never if either parent is human. (the offspring might be physically or mentally gifted, or be magically inclined, but nevertheless human)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
People can join as werewolves and vampires of any ilk, and a few Offspring (the afforementioned gifted humans) who have been clued in by the parent, and maybe a couple of other typical fantasy type races. Sign up and stay on to learn the effects of the war on the humans, and just who it is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Sounds like an interesting idea, and I'd definitely be interested.

Would there be anything wrong with playing one of these Offspring, with a Werewolf father and a human mother? Having been clued into the secret war by his father, he abandons the human race (having never regarded himself as one of them, despite not knowing about his genetic difference up until his father tells him) and embarks upon a solitary life as a vampire hunter?

Will that work? If so, I'll fill in some more definites about the character. If not, I'll try something else. :)

Need a Vampire woman?
Do your vamps have extend lives, etc?
I'd love to play a little bloodsucker. Are there any areas where the two types live together and aren't at war? An interracial villiage if you will? Would be interesting to be from there, meet a werewolf, be polite and have the ww accuse me of playing tricks or something.
Or could be typical snotty vamp with a family vendetta to fulfill.

Sounds interesting.

I could pull in a werewolf, if that's okay. Maybe one a little less inclined to mix with humans, though.

Although, I find the thought of areas inhabited by both to be intriguing. Especially with the war coming up and all the strained relations that would bring.

Yes, there are areas where the two live together (both masquerading as humans) because remember, they can sense their own kind, but not each other. The interesting part happens when people who living as humans are friends, and then find out and start fighting. Plus there is the classic OMG you're a....
type dynamic when a human finds out a friend is a monster.
There can also be remote areas where the two get along, just not too much of that.
-----------------------------------
Lateral-that would be great, he could even be able to sense werewolves, although his sense wouldn't be as keen as a real werewolf's
GrandMage-sounds good. welcome.
Vixandra-yes they do live longer than humans, i'm thinking somewhere in the range 150-175 years, and doesn't every thread need a hot vampire chick?
be back later to post my principal character's bio so we can get rolling.

Okay,......Character madness!

Name: Chase Walker
Species: Natural born Lycanthrope.
Age: 35
Sex: Male

Appearance: Chase looks like a tall, muscular built human. His scar, showing that he is in fact a lycanthrope, is on his right shoulder. He has light brown hair, and dark brown eyes.

Bio: Chase lives among humans and vampires, but mostly keeps himself in contact with the few werewolves in the area. Although he does have a few human, or at least assumed human friends. Still, even among other lycanthropes, he's not what one would call 'sociable'.

good, we're getting things rolling. here's mine.

Name:Beorn
Species: Werewolf, natural born.
Occupation:difter/bard
age:unknown
sex:male

Appearance: Roughly 6 feet tall, muscular with broad shoulders. Has a shaved head.Normally wears a simple brown tunic, with no sleeves. His entire forearms are covered in rune tattoos, and he is almost never seen without a lute strapped across his back and a small flute hanging from a string around his neck. The "wolf scar" is on the left side of his chest.
(The purpose of the tattoos will be revealed when the thread gets going. The way I see it, it's my responsibility to keep interest up, and there will be interesting angles and plot twists)

Bio: Beorn was an orphan, found and raised by a group of wandering minstrels. Among them, he learned music, and how to fight, steal, hustle and all the various arts associated with a wandering vagrant lifestyle. When he realized what he was, he made an effort to stay away from the group during the full moon, but one night he failed. He got into an argument with another man in the camp, and killed him in self defense. He was cast out, and became a drifter, playing music for a meal or a few coins, or fighting if the situation warrants it.

Ok, so here I go.

Name: Torok
Species: Werewolf Offspring (Werewolf father, human mother)
Occupation: Vampire Hunter
Age: 24
Sex: Male

Appearance: 6 foot tall and strongly-built. Has unkempt shoulder-length raven-black hair. His eyes are green, his features chiselled, and his skin is tanned as one who has spent many years under the sun, marked by numerous small scars. His clothing is simple and completely unremarkable. His paw-print birthmark is located on his right thigh.

Bio: Born the only child of two beings who shared an impossible love - a lycanthrope male and a human female - Torok was observed even from early childhood to be faster, stronger, and more intelligent than the humans he lived with. Though he always felt 'different', (Though his primitive ability - an ability he did not recognize - to sense other lycanthropes meant that he felt more at ease with them) his childhood was relatively normal and happy, and somehow his father's secret remained unknown to him. When Torok was 24, his mother was slain by a vampire, and the young man, with his father, entered the scene to find the creature feeding upon the woman. The vampire made to attack them, but was fought off by Torok's father - the vampire, realising his adversary was a werewolf, fled.
The things Torok witnessed his father do that day - not to mention the presence of the vampire - needed some explanation, and Torok's father told the young man all about his own heritage, about the vampires, and the werewolves. That day, Torok swore that he would hunt vampires to the end of the world - and thus, he became a solitary vampire hunter, despite his father's objections (Not wanting to provoke an all-out war between werewolves and vampires). He had never felt that his place was with humans, and he had always had a passion for the wilderness; so he began a life of wandering, leaving his father, who did not stop him, but neither did he ever want anything more to do with his son.
All this occured just days before the incident which started the secret war.

Will that work? I wasn't sure of the half-werewolves inherit the paw-print birthmark, but I included it just in case.

Vampiress

Melora St. Claire, a descendant of the saint of vampires herself.
Looks to be about 18, is really 78
5'6", lean build
Moon-light sliver hair
Deep blue eyes
Normally wears blacks, silvers, blues and the occasional red

Melora grew up in a villiage of werewolves and humans, though her great-grandfather was the child of St. Claire, the only vampire to bear children to date. At the age of 18 her villiage was attcked by vamps and she was taken. Upon learning her heritage she was given the "Dark Gift" and became a vampire herself. She has a fondness for were-wolves from her child hood (best friend was one) and refuses to harm them unless in pure self defense.
She walks the land, killing rouge vampires who exsist outside the Vampiric Courts rule. Her opinions at court, that a quartet of rouge vamps took the lives of the dead werewolves got her a task of finding them and bringing them back to court, dead or alive. Great-great-grandmother Claire didn't like that someone acted outside her orders- a war with the wolves could mean discovery by the humans and that idea made her QUITE cross.

So, is that workable? I rather like the idea of a vampire court but if its not good for the story tell me and I'll modify it a bit.

Great.
Ok, half werewolves will have the mark, but it will be different from a werewolf's. Let's make it black instead of a natural looking scar or birthmark.
The Vampire court sounds like a great idea. It will be a perfect vehicle for me to reveal who started the war.
Do you guys think this is enough people to get going?

Go for it.

Go ahead and start the thread Fuzz and if more wish to join they can hop in later.

Lathrol

OK I am a hardcore die hard wolf fan But i have noticed that there is only one vamp so i have come up it an Interesting idea

Name:Lathrol
Species: Werewolf, natural born. is now a vampire
Occupation:drifter/wonderer
age:unknown
sex:male

Appearance: 5 foot 9 inches tall and a strong swimmer-built. Has unkempt shoulder-length dark-brown hair, the style of it is that of surfer hair cut. His eyes are a deep crystal blue, his features smooth and distinguished, and his skin is tanned as one who has spent many years under the sun, although he grows paler with each passing day. Marked by two scars , one of the mark of the wolf located on where his neck meets his left shoulder, and the other being on the opiset side of his neck the scar is that of the bit of the vampire. His cloths are unusual for the medieval time that this story takes place in. It looks like A mixture of a wester cowboy and that of an Japanese Royal. His clothes are taterd and dirty.

Bio: All had been peaceful, well, peaceful except for the petty humans and their petty wars, for a hundred years. The clans of blood-drinkers and lycanthropes maintained an uneasy truce; many integrated with humans and hid their true nature, while still others kept to their own in remote villages. Thus began a war, carried out in the shadows among the unsuspecting humans, but neither the vampires or the werewolves are aware of outside forces watching and reveling in the chaos.
back in the remote village of Crossel in an large ally lie four bodies all with their blood drained . An old blind man who's eyes are a solid white Sweeps around the area. Suddenly one of the four bodies Pops up.
"Who are you guys ?! We Don't Want Fight!!!!!" In a dazed look he begins to look around . the old man walks toward him.
"whats your name young one"the old man asked as The young man looked around and was startled by the dead bodies beside him.
Instinctively with out thought" I am Le Throl"
"well boy you weren't meant to be but that will be taken care of" The old man than walked off
"Wait where am I , What happened, Who am I"
as the old man vanished " you said you were Lathrol"
*now weeks later two villages away In an empty pub
" And thats how my life started at the end of it My friend" lathrol saids as he raps his arm around the cote rack he is talking to.

OOC: OK He really isn't any thing right now he can sense both races but they cant sense him . and he dose walk around during the day and he dose have vamp teeth but other than that and the scars he really doesn't exhibit any other traits of the races. I'll revile more about him when the thread starts but this will be interesting to play

I would like to play in this thread, but before I do, are there any other special characteristics or abilities that the vamps have, besides the extra strength, speed and bloodsucking?

They have extended lifespans. Remember, this is a medieval fantasy setting so a vampire mage or something will work too.

My character

Name: Alistair
Species: Vampire (Bitten at childhood)
Occupation: Mage
Age: 60, but looks a lot younger
Sex: Male

Appearance: Alistair wears a black cloak with a hood to cover his face. He also has a two pouches on his wait belt, one for money and another for powder that he uses for some of his spells.

Bio: Alistair was walking in the woods with his mother one day when they were attacked by vampire. Hismother was killed but Alistair was turned into a vampire. He spent the next couple of years wandering around the land, feeding on humans to satisfy his urges. He was then taken in by a vampire mage by the name of Damien, where he learned the magic arts. He now goes around enforcing the laws of the Vampiric Courts, hoping to keep the presence of vampires a secret.

I hope you don't mind, but I liked the idea of the Vampiric Court and wanted to be a part of that.

Welcome aboard. The vampire court thing has potential. like i said, it will be a good vehicle for revealing all the motives behind the war.

Also, there will be a corresponding body among the wolves, but it is more loosely organized, and has less authority, along the lines of a tribal council. It is more in tune with nature and generally leans toward mysticism.

Werewolves transform into a man/wolf form, but not completely into a wolf. (Why will be explained later)

Okay, so, can they change at will, or does there need to be some special alignment of heavenly bodies? (i.e.: full moon, Jupiter and Mars aligned, etc.)

glad you brought that up.
full moon,
really intense anger. (one could in theory, hurt himself or psyche himself out to change voluntarily...)

Both are involuntary, generally speaking.
once the wolf has transformed, it can't change back until the full moon, or the rage subsides.

Hmm. So, in theory, one could make themselves change by making themselves angry enough? That sounds like something a man who fights and kills for a living could do, no?

Whoa, they can't change back until the full moon? Is that a typo, or do they stay changes for a month?

(The full moon. It's always the full moon. It's never half or quarter or new, it's always the full moon,.....)

Okay, speaking of which, when's the next full moon?

full moon just rolls off the tongue better.

as for the anger thing, i'm talking rip out your own hair by the handful i'm going to pop your head like a grape and then reach down your gaping maw and pull your innards out kind of blind wreckless bloodthirsty anger.

it's 2 days to the next town. the second night, there will be a full moon.

is anyone else's computer giving an error message when you post, or is it just me.

I guess.

Well, I'm not getting an error message. But it all depends on timing and what you were doing and how long it's been since to did a good cleaning in the old comp. I think. What do I know? There's the television hooked up to a typewriter somehow. Beats me.

.....And speaking of errors, before I make one, your last post,....how much of that was being said? I mean, most of it speaks for itself. It's mostly the "Fools" parts at the begining that makes me scratch my head an wonder if that was out loud or not.

sorry about that. i was in a rush. i went back and fixed it, but for clarity, all of it is spoken except the last paragraph where i notice the symbols.
it's now in asterisks for clarity.
