Bloodstone is based in a haunted house set on a small isolated island. The entire island is the property and grounds of the house.

Players are humans trapped by a storm that has washed out the road. It has also uprooted an old oak tree on the grounds. Under the roots of the tree are revealed human remains, the only clue as to the owners identity is a bloodstone ring. At that time strange things begin to happen in the house and the surrounding grounds.
The place is riddled with hidden doors, cellars, rooms, attics etc. The aim would be that the players have to find who/what/why/where/how the person died, and the ghost of the dead person is trying to help them so that their spirit can be avenged.

I am the Ghost(s?) and another player is the murderer, but the murderer will act just like another player pretending to be trying to solve the mystery.

It is late 1800's so power and telephone have only just been invented, and unavailable in this area, so cant call for help, and forensic analysis is pretty difficult to say the least..

You are a human guest in a newly purchased and not fully rennovated mansion home turned hotel/inn.
You have been invited as a special guest because you have been here before.
Ten years before, you attended a party in this very same home. A Party that was to celebrate the coming of age of the Dukes daughter, Laura Charlesworth. During the week of merriment a number of strange occurances took place and the daughter mysteriously disappeared. Not long after, the Duke also disappeared and the house was abandoned - until now.

Use your detective skills, try to unveil the murderer, and figure out the story.

This thread is open to all, but PLEASE let me know who you are here before posting in the main thread. No were-creatures, vampires, zombies or magic allowed.

I have created a website http://www.nosedown.com/bloodstone/bloodstone.htm which, as the story progresses, will help you keep track of the clues, players, locations and so on. Check it often as new clues will be revealed there. Just click on the invisible guy who I'll keep him in my signature for your convenience. http://www.nosedown.com/bloodstone/images/invisibleguy.gif

I wanna be Professor Plum!

Just to remind everybody-From "The World Almanac and Book of Facts", 1997, p.973, life expectancy in the US was 54.1 years for those born in 1920.

Now, although I may not have the facts for Britian in the late 1800's, but I can imagine it about the same. Just wanted to throw that out to show how old my old fart's gonna be. Respectively.

Name: Prof. Harold M. Plum
Sex: Male
Height: 4'9"
Occupation: A retired but noted historian, and a professor at London's major college (For the time period, bah, who cares?)
Age: 63
Eyes: Brown, when they're opened.
Hair: Grey, he keeps it combed back to where it reaches the nape of his neck. A small bald spot is developing on the back of his head.

Appearance: A thin, seemingly frail old man. A face full of wrinkles, but still a charming smile, since he's managed to keep most of his teeth. He wears a nice, deep purple suit, and round, wire-rimmed glasses. His eyes appear constantly in shadow, and he has a certain 'feeling' about himself, one of suspicion. Added to his being the quiet type, and a nervous habit of flicking his eyes about everywhere, he tends to unsettle people, even close friends he's known for years. He's abandoned ties, calling them 'A strangling curse to anyone above the age of thirty-four.'

The Facts: Although he may appear frail, he's managed to live by himself even in his 'old' years. His muscles may not be large, but they are there, and they do continue to do their jobs. Never far from his pipe or the old flask of whisky he keeps in his coat, he loves to smoke, and drink to anything that might rattle his old nerves. He came to wealth in his early twenties, when his extremely wealthy uncle Mortimer passed away under 'mysterious' circumstances. Being the black sheep of Plum's family, he'd left everything to the only relative still talking to him-Harold. Added by his looks, the family, if not the police, are quite content to call Uncle Mort's death murder, by none other than the heir himself.

After many years as the leader in his field, he settled down, deciding to pick up his life where he'd left it. Having never been married, he satisfies himself with collecting old books and studying the newest findings into the past as he travels a bit, trying to enjoy what little time he has left.

He was a good friend to the missing Duke, and has purchased his home and opened it into a resort-like establishment. Invitations have been sent to those who were at the party ten years ago, as the few people he knows were present, and he wanted to start off his business by getting some high class people in to look around, and maybe spread the word.

See you at Greystone!

Mrs. Lucy Darcy, a school mate of dear lost Laura Charlesworth.

A little wren like woman with soft brown hair, soft brown eyes and a sweet nature who surprizes people when she becomes firm with them. Very "mouse that roared".

It's always distressed her that Laura was lost to us all at the cusp of young womanhood and she aches to find out what happened to the dear sweet girl.

She's 29, five foot two, and cameo pretty in the way of the times. Dresses somewhat plainly, but always of good cloth, and is equally kind to her peers and common folk. (Like almost everyone of the time she doesn't see the inherent bigotry of there being such a class distintion between "peers" and "common folk")

It would be nice if someone wanted to be a Mr. Darcy, but if not, she can be a widow of two years. Long enough to have mourned and gotten on with her life. Since she was a peer of Laura she comes from good family, but perhaps one that has fallen a bit cash wise as many of the famlies were doing at the time.

Here is Miss Lucy, looking through the photo album remembering happier times with Laura....

thankyou and thankyou GM & PS
awesome pictures PS, definatly adds a great touch, will have a look at that site. That first mansion pic is awesome.. exactly how I imagine it.. but about 3 or 4 side by side - this place is huge.

GM and PS :D I have put your character details on the site..

let me know if you need to change anything so I can change the site to reflect the changes.

I will put images of the mansion in the locations area as the place is explored - the front facade will be uploaded shortly - I have to quickly dash and do some work right now - but the facade will be the one with the lightning that PS has kindly found

Old mansions like that have "wings". The pic would be the "Main Wing" which usually juts out further than the house proper. Then there would be a "East Wing" and a "West Wing" and what ever additions added on. So, actually, the picture is the equiv. to your front porch scale wise.

If you want some maps, I think I saw some whilst digging around.

yep, wings.. (you know how your mind goes blank?)

maps would be great - anything is great :D

Shall Lucy start in her room, watching the storm and go down to dinner?

Of course, it'd be nice to know if I have a husband or not....:D

Reviving my character

I'm sure the bitch has learned how to speak proper English, by now, but here she is:

Name: Zoé Lépine
Age: 26
Height: 5'10
Build: Slim
Hair: Long, Blond
Eyes: Green
Bio: Zoé is the only daughter of Prefét (chief commissioner) of the Paris police, Louis Lépine. He is a brilliant criminologist and Zoé has grown up immersed in the world of criminal investigation. She was only sixteen at the time of Laura's disappearence, and she didn't know her too well. In fact, she had only been at the party because her father had sent her to stay with his personal friend, the Duke, for a couple of months, while he was busy dealing with a mysterious crime wave that swept France at the time. When Zoé returned home, she wasn't the same person as she was before. Grimmer, more cynical, she offers herself to help her father with his job at the Préfecture, but he is shocked by the prospect of a woman, having such a dangerous occupation. She isn't allowed to pursue her dream, but she spends her days analizing whatever records she can get her hands on and studying the more recent investigation techniques. The invitation to spend a fortnight at the Duke's former residence, Greystone Manor, came as a shock, but one she couldn't resist. Two days later, she is in Calais, boarding a ferryboat that will take her to the decadent island retreat off the coast of England.

Oh, well....

They're very nice, indeed.
Unfortunately, in my mind, Plum is,....ummm,.....more old. (My descriptive powers are amazing, aren't they? Could I get more vague?)

Older than old!
Because when I make a character who's supposed to be older than the average life expectancy, I want him to appear so old as to make you wonder what's keeping him alive. :D

That way people tend to be in less of a hurry around him. And they don't make their clues big surprises, for fear he'll have a heart attack right there.

Haha!

You don't need to worry.

I doubt if you'll find anything.

It's all in my head. I've had about,....one character I could actually find a picture that was close enough for me to accept. I try not to worry about it. They exist only in my mind, and a little in my writing.
