The Das'ma tribe have always lived in the depths of Mother Wild. They are proud hunter's, mighty warriors, and always pay tribute to their home, and the great Jungle they call mother Wild has always been good to them. She has taught them many things. Which animals are dangerous, and which can be tamed. They have learned that some plants can cure disease, while other's make powerful poisons.

She has been their home for many years, and now they must defend her. For the ghost men have come. As white as the stone of the great moutains in the south they cut at Mother Wild, taking her mighty trees away to become ships, and houses in faraway lands.

They have great steel swords, sticks that shoot fire and shining metal crosses. They preach of "One True God" and sing ugly songs. They have destroyed other tribes and intend to "Tame" the people of Mother Wild. Young Warriors and Shamans are needed to drive them away, and save the Great Jungle. This will be a battle such as the Das'ma have never seen, many will fall, and the Jungle floor will most certainly be tainted with the blood of the Ghost Men.

Please PM before posting if interested. Some possible roles would be: A tribal warrior, shaman, Hunter, or witch doctor. An invading "Ghost Man" Warrior or Priest, or just about anything else you can come up with. I would ask that NO firearms besides muskets and single shot pistols used.

Any magic would involve either nature, or human enhancement. All spell effects would temporary, meaning no permanent super strength or speed, (spells that kill would obviously be an exception the temporary bit). Animal speech would be a good power for shamans and would be the only permanent magical ability.

Please PM.

Would the Das'ma have female shamans or would they all be male??? For that matter what is the normal role of Das'ma women within their tribe? What sort of religious/culture prohibitions are there for them?

Because their main Goddess is female, there are less restrictions Das'ma women than in many other tribal cultures, they are allowed to become Shaman, and Warriors, but not Hunters. As Women are expected to have a stronger bond with Mother Wild than men, and therefore can kill humans but not animals I'm open to any changes people might suggest.

That's an interesting twist..them being able to be Warriors but not Hunters. I like it. I'll write up a bio and pm it to you.

Here I am Just going to add more information about the Das'Ma Culture.

The Role of a family: The Das'ma tribe consists of only 200 people. They are divided into families groups. Each family has a certain "Social Ranking" depending on how many strong warriors, skilled hunters, and how many fertile men and woman they produce. This Ranking is not formal, it's not even truly recognized as fighting within the tribe is extremely rare, but helps mothers and fathers arrange marriages.

The Role Of Children: A childs labour is it's parents until they are accepted as adults by their culture. This happens either when they first take a life, or when they are married. Marriages can be arranged for both boys and girls, though no betrothal is ever set in stone.

The Role of the Elderly: Elder's are to be respected. Many pride themselves on telling tales of the past. Because the life expectancy is not great among the tribes of Mother Wild women become elders at 40, men at 35. They are still expected to maintain all their duties of occupation and so on, but have more prestige in the eyes of the Tribe. Men become elders earlier because generally they don't live as long.

The Role of Warrior's: Warrior's are expected to not only be strong, but swift and agile as well. There is honour in all manner of disposing of one's enemy, be it by combat, trap, or even a stealthy ambush. All kills on the field of battle are dedicated to Mother Wild and all corpses are left unburied, as they will all rot away and return to the earth.

The Role of a Shaman: A shaman can be male or female, young or old. They can come from any social ranking. Women, who are generally more in touch with the earth tend to produce more shamans, and more powerful ones at that. They can speak to animals and contact spirits.

Once in a Shamans life, they may summon the Jaguar spirit, and bestow it's powers upon a chosen Warrior. This Warrior is temporarily unstoppable, possessing the speed and strength of a Jaguar, but after all enemies on the field are slain the spirit leaves, killing the warrior, and elevating his/her spirit into the arms of Mother Wild. ((Most of the powers of the Shaman are up for discussion Except animal speech and the Jaguar Spirit))

Shaman are allowed to have Children, as Fertility is Mother Wild's first gift.

The Role of the Hunter: All men are expected to be hunter's, no matter their age, occupation or skill. Women are not allowed to be, under any circumstances. This law is strictly enforced by not only the male hunters, but the female Shaman as well. Women are more in tune with Mother Wild, and therefore it would be considered a great insult to their home and deity if a female were to slay an animal.

The Role of the Witch Doctor: Witch Doctors are outcasts. They pray to Mother Wild's darker side, and summon twisted supernatural beasts to do their bidding. Their spells often involve the blood of men, and women and other sometimes even more immoral elements.

Name: Ix'chel
Age: 22
Tribal Position: Shamaness
Appearance: Tall and lithe with midnight hair that falls in a straight, shimmering curtain down her back and with what her people call "shaman" eyes - eyes such a dark of brown as to be nearly black with a slight ring of violet around them - and warm cinnamon skin.
Personality: Warm and kind with most she also has a sharp temper and doesn't suffer fools gladly. Always willing to help one of her tribe and particularly protective of the tribes children since she has none of her own. When performing her duties as a Shaman of the tribe however her demeanor changes, becoming proud and aloof as she beseeches the Wild Mother on the tribe's behalf.
Gifts: Minor healing (such as relieving pain in a cut or break while it is being set but not healing the actual wound itself, or staving off infection while a body heals) and the ability to tell where a problem is with the touch of her hands. She also has an affinity with the large cats of their jungle (her personal totem being a jaguar) and usually has at least one "gaurding" her or bringing her messages and/or information.

Our third player pointed out something I forgot to add to the Cultural update: Warriors have tatoos, to mark their status, but Shamans must keep their bodies clear of any permanent markings, save for blending dyes.

Name: Ro'damn
Age: 21
Tribal Position: Warrior
Ro'Damn was made a man at 12 when he killed a man from an opposing tribe with
his bare hands. Since then he has only grown stronger, and swifter, his muscles
corded and powerful. He has never known defeat in anything, be it a foot race or
battle, and yet he is still unmarried. For Ro'Damn has been selected to be the next host to Balam the Jaguar spirit.

He will die before his next year of life is out, and this of course restricts who has
interest in him, as what woman wants a man that will die soon? Because of his
"Destiny" he is somewhat bitter toward the Shamans of his village, but he still
pledges his kills to Mother Wild, and always faces battle without fear. He is a
skilled hunter and fights with a spear or an obsidian spiked club.

Ro'Damn has tamed a Harpy Eagle as his hunting companion, the birds name is
'Broken Sky'.

Since this is the OOC I can write the chara out

Aka'hta, born of the rains and lightning, now considered a Shaman's prodigy as her brith fell under the fire moon, an occurance that happens every twenty years and due in three more moons.

Aka'hta was also dyed with the deep greens allowing her to blend with the Mother as she walked the trails with safety, becoming one with the animals that crept and slithered the trees and ground.

Now the strangers come among her people and say strange words that bring heart ache to the children of the Mother. Words that cause red to spill on Mother's spirit and taint the foods of harvest to be echoed with tears of lonely wives and small warriors with no teacher. revenge burns in her soft grass eyes as she watches the fire pour from shiny tubes and steal away the brothers of her tribe.

submiting bio for approval--

21 year old Mara,

She is a warrior, she entered adult hood at 16. After kill a man from a different tribe. Until then even though she was strong and swift, she had felt the pull to being a shamon.

Her mate has been killed by the ghost men. She still fighting fiecely but also is very protective of her 2 year old daughter. Her mate Died just weeks after the birth.

Now she lives for only 2 things to stop the ghost men and to make sure her dauther come to no harm. When she goes out she makes sure to leave her daughter with a shaman.

In her heart she knows she will never love again. SEh also knows the wild earth wants her to have another child. How she will do this is unclear to her. After all who would mate with her knowing her heart belongs to another.

FYI

someone asked me what Ista ska meant

It is Lakota for white eyes

Is there any spot for another warrior?

Just asking, probably there were more needed...

I always say the more the merrier

I think a breif description of your character would be in order

All right...

If the story isn't yet too advanced...

Name: Bjarne

Age: 30

Tribal Position: Warrior

Appearance: He is a muscular 'brute', with a muscular body and a tanned skin that stands at 6'2". He has long, curly black hair that reaches to his shoulder blades end. And a face that has forgotten the feel of shave. He can always be seen wearing animal skins, of animals that he has hunted himself. He claims it is for better hunting as his purpose, but many men have claimed it that he is a savage and a brute, though those people have not seen him when he is not at battle.

Story: He was born a warrior, having obtained his manhood by spending two weeks in the wild when he was only ten years old. He went on to live as a hunter until he turned twenty, when he was lost in the woods. He had gotten captured by this Ghost Men, and from them he learnt many things, as he had made a wise decission of playing by their rules than being killed, no matter how much it went against the code of honor of the tribe.

Bjarne obtained a steel sword and shield from those men, and lived as a warrior for the Ghost Men until he managed to escape, just in the same way that he had gotten lost from his tribe. He joined them once again, keeping his knowledge of them for himself after three years of work and torture.

During the following years, Bjarne would turn into one of the most battle-hardened warriors of the tribe, and one of the most skilled hunters. Though, he has preferred not to show any of these skills of his, as he prefers to spend his time by being with unmarried women.

He fights with any kind of weapon that is near him, but he will mostly use a bow and arrow, or his sword and shield.

How many are still here?

I realize my illness tossed me on a boundary but I wish to see where we are
