I'm a complete virgin to "board-style" rpg, like this, and am looking to make the transition minimally awful. I have characters and ideas, but have so far been too chicken to give this a try. One character I'm thinking of is the one I'd like to develop most. I like her, I can't lie, and I don't know why I feel the urge to persevere in "getting her out there". I've heard mixed reviews- some hate her (most do), some like her, and others can't translate anything I've written for her.

I've a late-thirties spinster type with a jaded, frigid demeanor that is just a chilly shell around a feisty, engaging, chewy center whose character has been completely and thorougly castigated and assasinated by her ex-competitive dancesport partner and dominant lover. How's that for a run-on?She's remarkably pretty, but her self-esteem is non-existent, and she's a reclusive, eccentric type of paranoid, self-destructive inhabitant of a small apartment/house/whatever in (insert city/town).

It's my goal for her to break the shell, emerge, and flourish with the help of an articulate, creative, patient, and charming man or woman, with recurring bouts of her old "must win" habits along the way of eating disorders, drug abuse, violence, and some of the habitualized behavior adopted from wearing someone's collar for years until finally "breaking free" with a SNAP.

1- is this the forum for this?

2- how very Mary-Sue IS this notion anyway?

3- I'm willing to "give as well as take", in that this character doesn't have to be on a shining pedestal... just as long as she gets some writing.

4- a story centering around this school a la Hotchkiss is an idea I'd like to tinker with, where adults with various baggage enter, find themselves and others, and work through it using a creative outlet they likely didn't ever think they could enjoy.

5- some good guys/gals to "make it right" for someone, some bad guys to tear it all down, some in-betweeners not sure WHAT they want, and some backgrounders would be nice.

6- how do-able is this on a "forum" style board?

Great Post!

Hi! Although I am new to Literotica, I just wanted to say how refreshing it was to read your comments and wanted to respond! I used to do some RP on Yahoo before they closed everything down; Yahoo was always a bit of a challenge since there was definitely a shortage of fun, creative and imaginative people there... Literotica is great and I am sure that this forum will work great for what you are looking for.

I would love to continue your thread/rp if you are interested. Please feel to contact me anytime. I will watch for your response.

In the meantime, keep up the good work and best wishes!

As much as I like the ability to store and organize in Yahoo groups, I agree, the interpersonal creativity has been a bit... hmm.

I don't flatter myself to think I'm any sort of hypermediocre writer, but what I do write, I want to enjoy, and I don't want someone coming in with fingerpaints and screwing up my canvas of stickpeople when my back is turned. Yahoo is also rather fickle in it's age and adult content restrictions, making it difficult for some groups to be visible. Make no mistake, I'm rather conservative in my interests (no incest, bestiality, or pedophilia) and that's caused me to come underfire by at least two erotic group mods in yahoo recently.

Here, I'd hoped that it was just a change of scenery, and so far, so good.

When I get back from class tonight, I'll do some tinkering with a little more substance for the thread. I'm thinking this is going to be crazily linear, and I don't want to hog space, but I need some characters, a premise, and some minimal rules to work on later.

Ciao, and thanks again!

Tzah, I would ask a question.

First of all, do you intend this RP to be sexually orientated? I've no experience with Yahoo rping (I'll be honest). I ask because if you intend for sex to dominate this RP then you'll need to move this thread to the Sexual Roleplaying section of this board.

If not, then you're in the right place. BTW, your character sounds rather interesting. Slightly messy, but interesting :D

Ah, its intresting to see another vet of Yahoo. I was pretty active there myself, back in the day. And I have also been lurking the RP fourms here, unsure if I (or more specificaly, my characters) would fit in here, or if I could adapt to board-style roleplaying. Unfortunatly I was younger at the time I started, and most of the characters fall into Mary-Sue problems, or are just cliche. At any rate, just wanted you to know that youre not the only yahoo-refugee lurking here, hoping to once again roleplay.

Oh, and I totally understand the feeling that you just want to play your characters, and not want others to come in and be hypercritical about them. Some people dont know how to relax sometimes.

Welcome to the rp forum of lit Tzah.

The one interesting quirk to role playing on a board is that there are periods of time when people are posting left and right, and things move nearly as fast as you can refresh the page, then, most of the time, things go at a more leisurely pace, 10-20 posts in a day at most on one thread, I'd wager.

Playing here, you get just about all the time that you could want to write a post, some times you do end up getting it posted after someone else, if you take a loooong time to write, and some times what gets posted before you makes your post seem odd, so alot of people take to writing in a word program and refreshing the thread page before they post, to be sure that their post still makes sense.

It's been quite a while sine I have joined my hand in a thread and played along, but I am looking forward to seeing if I still got it. I'll be looking for a story line that's interesting yet not so fast passed that I need to spend half the day on the net (my connection speed is so slow it takes me half the day just to log in)
I will keep an eye on your thread and see what you have in mind. My own char would probably be something completely new, something fresh, a whole new me.. so to speak. Kinda like being reborn and watching myself grow all over again.
Good luck with your next steps, and remember one thing, no matter what anyone thinks of your char or your ideas, they are yours and if others don't like it, they don't have to join in. Be what you want to be and see where it takes you.
