Hana Hou Airlines Flight 19 was a 30-minute flight. A few minutes before the plane is due to land just off Hawaii something goes terribly wrong! The plane runs into extremely bizarre weather. As the disturbance clears briefly, the crew and passengers find themselves over the Island of Oahu. Diamondhead is clearly visible but little else looks familiar.

The turbulence accelerates rapidly. Suddenly, the passengers hear the pilot through the cabin door call "This is HH-19, MAYDAY! MAYDAY! at 158 E, 21 30 N. MAYDAY, MAYDAY!" The bewildered crew hears nothing but silence on all the aircraft's radios and communication devices. They are forced to crash-land at what should have been Waikiki.

The surviving passengers and crew of Flight 19 have just unknowingly taken a journey in time, as well as space. They are marooned forever on the Island of Oahu, stranded by the Pacific and over years of time, long before civilization rooted itself in the Hawaiian Islands (ie pre-tech); a time and place where modern civilization as they knew it is no more. Is a very primitive way of life is now to be the norm for them all?

You are completely alone with your companions -- without any hope of rescue or escape. How will you survive? How will you organize yourselves? Who is in charge? What will happen to you? How resourceful will you be?

WELCOME TO YOUR NEW WAY OF LIFE... FOREVER!!

Would love to join you !

but as you know, (sigh) I'm slow and easy, May take me a day or two to get there. Jacque La Forge, Artist. More later.

It's all my fault!

At least I'm sure it'll look that way initially!

I'm Robert Garret, Pilot of illfated flight HH-19 to Waikiki. Contrary to flight regulations, I'm both Pilot and Flight Engineer, as the only other pilot is a barely rated rookie with very few flights under his belt. Ah well, you know how tough times are for small airlines!

What could possibly go wrong? :)

Faq

The general idea here is a plane crash with a "twist". If we go back in time, to a pre-tech age, there's the ability for survival without all the trappings and there is also a call for indigenous people.

Only a small group will "survive", which will keep the number of "modern" players more manageable. Though I'd like to see several people already on the island, I don't think there will be any contact between the two groups for a while... basically allowing for two separate story lines that will eventually merge.

Will add more as we go... Please introduce your characters here or PM for ideas/clarification.

Julie Malone

Julie was quite excited to finally be done school. To celebrate, she packed up her three best friends and decided to head to Hawaii. She was nervous about starting her first year of teaching in the fall, and was eager for a stress free vacation. Unfortunately, that vacation was not in the cards for Julie....

Julie Malone
22 yrs old
Athletic build, brown hair and eyes
A kind, very trusting individual who prides herself on her high morals, Julie never missed a day of school or turned in a late assignment.

OOC: Happy to be along! :)

Messalina Bishop

She had been named for one of the "uppity wimmin of herstory" -- as her father liked to say. Never quite living up to the reputation of the wife of the Emperor Claudius of Rome, Messalina Bishop had had a wild youth but finally settled down in her twenties and hit the books (much to her parents' relief) -- ultimately earning a doctorate in Art History/Classical Archaeology and a minor in cultural anthropology.

EDUCATION:

Phd. in Art History/Classical Archaeology from the University of Virginia
Masters from Rice University; Summa Cum Laude.
BA in Ancient Studies from Barnard College, Columbia University; Cum Laude.

***

Messalina, needing a break, and with a passel of things on her mind has decided to take a side trip to Hawaii to get her personal stuff together. From there, she'll take a flight to what she believes is her ultimate destination: The South Island of New Zealand and a possible Class IV pa site funded by someone in the private sector through the auspices of the Te Awamutu Museum. What had caught her attention, though, was that it was on the west side of the island where none to date had ever been excavated.

Angie Kindes

26 year old Angie lay lazily back on her sailboat off the coast of Diamond head staring lazily at the clouds. Soon she watches as those clouds darken. she runs quiclky to the bow of the boat just as a plane begins to decend very quickly.
she felt a strange shake from the water below her. Quickly she got on the radio to signal to the plane to see if they needed help. The fuzz of the radio started as she pressed the call button to sinal the plance catching a few frequencies.

"This is the Altima...Do you need assistance?" she persisted to repeat herself.

A crash of thunder was sounded but it was not the right weather for thunder.

She got back on the radio to call for help as she watched the plane decend towards Waikiki....or where she thought Wakiki was?

"Hello? Coastgaurd. Altima to coast gaurd? You there?" There was nothing from the other end of the radio.

"How strange." she though out loud as she watched towrds the beach. There wa suddenly a lack of the grand resorts which once lined the beack.

OOC: I got to go for now but will add more tomorrow

Reggie

Sir Reginald R.H. Trowbridge, former British Intelligence, now primarily intoxicated. No american alcohol of any kind, except a quality sour mash, EVERYTHING else is fair game. *hic*

40, in shape (except for the drunkeness), rugged good-looks, knowledge of everything from explosives to piloting a helicopter. Utterly fearless, resourceful, highly intelligent and totally unreliable. He's got that ethereal and annoying, for those who don't have it, thing that the gals dig. His license to kill was revoked a decade ago but he can still be frighteningly ruthless, given the right scenario. If he thought it was necessary, he'd kill you without thinking twice.

Reggie is on the hop flight in a strictly recreational capacity. He has more than enough money to benefit his favorite charities and drink himself to death on the finest of alcohol. He travels and drinks and enjoys the company of beautiful women around the world. Whether he has to pay for their company or not...lol

Sorry, Pap. You've misunderstand.

Think Bermuda Triangle meets Twilight Zone here. A modern character that isn't on the plane won't work. We're going back in time on crashing (even though the passengers won't realize it). Rethink her as either a passenger or an indigenous?

Twisting the "twist"...

What if...

modern things that we take for granted no longer work in this? Lighters won't light, watches don't work... Knives are cool.

Of course no one knows "why". ;)

And what if...

over time, anything that is man-made begins to disintegrate or disappear? (That means no polyester, but cotton and wool are cool (natural). YAY! :D

Okay... just throwing out ideas. Anyone?

Erk, we'd all be indigies within 5 years...

Might be nice to allow us a range of functionality - so something like a computer or a mobile phone is totally fritzed, but something like a knife that uses the simplest of physics works perfectly fine.

A lighter might be prone to not working when you need it - being something in the middle.

This is just a OOC thread, right? So here's my character

Ali'i(Chief) Kawaihae
6'5
270lbs
Black hair
brown eyes
Native Hawaiian
27 years old

Bio: Ali'i Kawaihae is in his third year of rule over the large village of Kapa'a-he'o, a large and happy village on the island of Oahu. Since his being named Ali'i the village has grown and prospered and, as such, the king has granted Kawaihae more and more of the land of the island over which to rule. Much beloved by his people he is also greatly feared by his enemies, of which there are very few remaining, having either made peace with or destroyed many of them.

PS If anyone out there is actually Hawaiian, please don't take offense if I misuse a word or six.

heartily agrees...

I was actually just thinking of that kind of thing. I do like the idea of man made materials eventually disintegrating... like plastic and polyester and stuff.

:D

But...

so we're talking a metaphysical condition by which objects manufactured in the "future"and totally synthetic in nature just slowly begin to de-exsist?

You just have to stir the pot, don't you? :p

Maybe it's not such a good idea? I was just tossing stuff out. But yes, that would have been the general premise, though it wouldn't have happened right away.

Don't worry, Reg... alcohol was in existence for a long, long time.

Let's get this bad motor scooter rollin'!!

Others can jump on over the next few days..our Core of Discovery is here...get it Core instead of Corps, you know Lewis and Clark, Jefferson, The Missouri, I...oh nevermind.

Let's get started!

It's kind of link Causuality in reverse - call it the Universe snapping back like abused elastic. ;)

So the pants of time are going to catch us a right stinger if we persist in (ab)using technological devices to get us out of trouble...
