OOC: A WWII thread?

Just wondering if there is any interest in a World War II thread?

Here are my thoughts on a possible thread:

first thing: your ideas are more than welcome!

This thread would take place in the European Theater in '42 or early '43, both Allies and Germans chars. are needed.

Location to be decided, but preferably something slightly ominous (i.e. Easter European Castle, Roman ruins, old monasteries, bombed out French villages).

Now, I was thinking of a heist type plot (Nazi gold, artifacts, or w/e) where the characters would be trying to get the treasure.

Each side would work/fight against each other first, but they would realize that they need to work together to get the treasure(think Kelly's Heroes).

Now, I welcome your input and I'll post my character if any interest is shown in this!

Yeah I guess so, my dates are a little fuzzy, but I just wanted it to be set when the outcome of the war was still ambiguous (sp?).

The fat ass Goering was gathering up all the treasures of the French. So your timing is right. The Brits were still in North Arfrica fighting for their lives. The Desert Fox, Rommel is kicking their ass. America has just entered the war, passing out supplies but the troop involment are just the fighter and bomber crews, and ships to protect the convoys. The focus was on North Africa at this time of '42.

I know it's in the movies, but Hitler really was into antiquities wasn't he? I'm sure they looted tons of shit from all those countries anyway though.

Actually your original premise set in Europe was good. Goering and Hitler were looting the museums for artworks and banks for gold. Well, my point was that the Americans had not yet have troops on Continental Europe, which makes a Commando raid more feasible, plus if it was in Europe, the route would be shorter to Switzerland, the Neutral Contry to spend all the art and gold that were stolen from the thieves. LOL. Takes a thief to steal from a thief...hehehe

Ah, okay then. I guess all we need now is some more people. I'll do some more research and post a char.

I looks like the thread will be set in 1942 in and around France.

Here's a little more info on the thread (input encouraged still): it's going to take place around Halloween, most likely in the wooded regions of France and maybe in the French Alps. Please fit your character in correctly with this period in the war! Here's the plot:

Hitler is transporting 20 million dollars worth of art, hard currency, and gold to a castle in south-eastern France. The castle is guarded by elements of the fearsome SS-Panzer-Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, along with some normal army troops. It is also rumored that he is keeping ancient Teutonic artifacts within the castle as well, stolen from German nobility.

Recently, the OSS has intercepted a secret communique detailing this transport, but this has also been leaked to isolated elements of the German army and to ranking members of the French resistance.

Oberleutnant Hans von Steffen

Hmm. Well, here's my character. I hope this gets off the ground.


Name: Hans von Steffen
Nationality: Austrian
Rank: Oberleutnant (First Lieutenant)
Age: 23
Height:5'10
Weight:170 lbs.
Hair: Brown
Eyes:Blue

Hans is of somewhat-distant relation to the Hapsburg line of Austrian rulers (hence the noble title "von" before his last name). His father died in the Great War and his mother soon after. Even though he was inwardly opposed to Hitler and Nazism (they were a threat to nobility, such as himself), Hans joined the army when Austria was absorbed into Nazi Germany. He began training to become a Panzer commander, and by time the war was underway he was serving in the famed 7th Panzer division, under Field Marshall Erwin Rommel. Hans served with distinction in France, and on the Eastern Front and was awarded the Knight's Cross first class for bravery.

After receiving a letter from a maid stating that SS soldiers had entered his family's summer manor in Bordeux and looted the house, Hans requested to be transferred to a unit in France. He and his crew have recently been attached to the elite Hermann Göring Division. Hans is now trying to track down his family's stolen riches.

Hans does not possess typical German efficiency and organization, but makes up for it in sheer luck and gut instinct. He is somewhat aloof and arrogant, but also cool-headed and intelligent. Hans is a ruthless, cruel combatant, but tends to shy away from the crimes committed by many of his comrades. He commands the utter loyalty of his Panzer crew and his beloved Tiger tank Gertie has never failed him.

Im intrested in joining the thread. Just wanted to state that alot of the plot is somewhat like the movie Kelly's heros. In the movie thought the americans find out thats theres 16 million in gold being held in a small french town 30 miles behind emeny lines. Moves kinda like the movie, but in all it all sounds good.

Not sure yet what my Char will be, but since the German army was made up of many men from different countrys, Im sure it won't be hard to think one up.

Hmmm... you know Band of Brothers... you know the last episode when they broke into Hitlers bunker, known as The Nest... that is where he stored all the treasure he thought was the most wonderful. Rare paintings, wine, religious artifacts.

I will play for sure... been playing Medal Of Honor too much and want to be an OSS agent. <Grins>

That thread was started a long time ago, and if you look back far enough you see I did post, but lost intrest. I love the movie and feel that I lack what is needed to spin off of it. Now if we did a spin off say, search for the Holy Underware or something like that, then I could do it. Set it up like this. . . King Arthur has a favorite pair of underware, and has worn them for so many years that they are literly full of holes, hece forth the Holy underware. Now someone steals his beloved underware and Arthur calls his knights together in a quest to find his stolen underware.

I like the idea of a WWII thread, I knew a few people have tried before as recently as 2 weeks ago. I'm no history major but I would like a wolfenstein type of thread.
