Three men sat at the table in one of the dark corners of the tavern. The light of the fire barely showing the scowls on their faces. The oldest one, Franko Hodges lifts his head slowly and looks at the youngest.
"Its not your fault, lad. You had no idea what was going to happen."
"Yes he did." The one in the middle said.
Franko Hodges pulls up his head slowly in disbelief. "What?"
Alexi Rostov gives Franko a cut of his eyes. "I told him, what would happen."
The younger man is 26 and was born in London England. He picks up his head and looks at Alexi. " You did?"
Alexi is 43. And good friends with the younger man. Franko Hodges the oldest, wears a brown uniform of the Dutch colonial forces. "I don't know what to say. Were you drunk?"
With this, the youngest one sits up some what straight. "Of course I was drunk."
Franko shakes his head." Still, it was the wrong thing to do. She was a prisoner in our custody. Now, now I got to do something."
"Sell her to the Indians, better yet." Alexi laughs." Sell her to the French, they like that kind of thing." Alexi mutters
"This is no funny, Alexi!" Franko growls.
"Oh its funny, a little, you should of seen the look on her face."
Franko shakes his head. "No this is not funny. There will be big problems. I can see that quite clearly. The Governor will be quite unhappy!"
The younger man looks at the older man. "Tell him she is Papist. You know he hates the Papists."
Alexi looks hopeful for a second, then frowns. "No the General is right. It was the wrong thing to do. She is nobility after all. No, it was the wrong thing to do."
The door of the tavern opens and a stout man in pirate garb walks over to the table. He has a bewildered look on his face. Half smiling and half concerned. "Its all over the colony. Every one is talking about it. Is it true, Captain?" The man askes.
The youngest of the group look up. "Sir Mister Watson it is true."
Mr. Watson stands up straight and proudly and looks around the tavern. "Mister barkeep a'round on the house! I'll pay myself. Then me and Captain Brightwell will be sailing with the tide."
Franko Hodges look doubtful. "I don't think we can do that."
Alexi brightens "Sure you can. Tell the Governor you threw him out of the colony for what he did. For the good of the colony."
Franko Shakes his head. "He will never go for that. He will want some punishment.
he will say I was sending the wrong message about the colony. It was a major insult to our, guest. "
Alexi looks up surprised, "Guests, since when are Spanish prisoners, guests?"
That is not the point. "It was an insult, he will want punishment." Franko replies.
Mister Watson looks at the General. "General Hodges, sir, the crew is on the ship. All our supplies for our voyage are on the ship, all we need is our Captain. I think the fact that an English Pirate Captain piss'n on a Spanish Countess, that would be a good reason to be leaving. Before the Spanish Ambassador shows up and makes some demand that no one what to hear."
Andrew Sinclair Brightwell the Captain of the Pirate ship Red Horse stands
up. "Quite right Mister Watson."
