… and that should exist in an extremely strong form: a dire need for the kind of companionship I offer. Only with such a strong motivation, do realistic chances exist for the relationship we begin to last, for more than a few weeks only.
Any relationship takes effort and determination to keep it alive; particularly a virtual one, with only words to keep us going, and real-life touches substituted by carefully crafted verbal fantasies. And such efforts will certainly cease being made, unless a very strong motivation exists, for both parties, for an existing relationship not to peter out. Due to boredom or fatigue.
I know this from experience, sadly so. Only three of my mail exchange relationships had lasted for more than a year, and only one still exists now, albeit for intellectual exchanges only nowadays. And only in the last case was the need for companionship really strong.
All other attempts for connecting with each other, failed miserably, after only a very short while. And in each case it was a really strong need that was missing. Except in that one surviving relationship I mentioned. And here it was that need, which kept us together.
