Veteran Anchor Leaves CNN To Report 'Good News'

POSTED: 8:45 am EDT August 4, 2006

NEW YORK -- A veteran CNN anchor said she thinks most people are looking for "meaning in life and good in the world."

News anchor Daryn Kagan said she'll leave CNN on Sept. 1 to set up a Web site devoted to telling inspirational stories.

The 12-year CNN veteran and former love interest of radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said the news business today lacks "a certain spirituality."

Kagan said she believes that people "are looking for meaning in life and good in the world" and that is not necessarily reflected in straight news coverage right now.

Kagan said the site won't be affiliated with any religious group, although she welcomes people who are religious to visit. She expects to include audio, video and print reports.

The content will be similar to that featured in "Your Spirit," a regular segment on her CNN program. Within the past month, for example, she has profiled Daniel Gottlieb, a quadriplegic who wrote letters to his autistic grandson collected in the book "Letters to Sam: A Grandfather's Lesson on Love, Loss, and the Gifts of Life." She also interviewed a laid-off flight attendant who walks the streets of Atlanta twirling a baton.

She's not turning her back on news, Kagan said.

"It's important to be informed but I also think it's important to be inspired," said Kagan.

She said she had no financial backer for her Web endeavor other than herself.

The site, DarynKagan.com, will launch on Nov. 13, she said.

The idea of some good news is a welcome one for me. I find myself very tired lately of all the horror and tradegy that dominates the news now days. I know that's what sells but it still can be very depressing over time to keep reading it all.

I'm a little leery of "a certain spirituality" and I hope this does not become just another religious propaganda website. Religion has it's place and people are welcome to their own beliefs but I don't think we really need another site shoving it down our throat. I suppose time will tell.

Brava! Good for her, choosing to walk away from all that negativity in favor of something that may not have as big a following as hearing about people getting killed every five minutes, but it's food for the soul. I hope that this project works out. We could all use more good news.
