Yesterday was the 250 anniversary of the Guinnes brewery. And at 5:59 PM Greenwich Mean Time, lovers of beer-you-can-chew worldwide raised their pints of opaque beverage in a toast.

So did I, at my local "irish" joint. And I learned this little tidbit, as here quoted form CNN for your convenience:

In 1759, Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000-year lease on a brewery.

Yep. That's nine thousand years. Way to plan ahead.

In Britain, West Indian people drink it -- presumably because it's black like them.
