An "argument" that is so stoutly championed by the culture of deathers...

...actually has no relevancy to reality at all:

Abortion

Question

Asked by Lord Alton of Liverpool

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many abortions have been performed under the provisions of the Abortion Act 1967 (as amended by Section 37 of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990) to the latest date available; and how many of those abortions were to save the life of the pregnant woman.[HL1563]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Earl Howe): Between 1968 and 2011 (the latest year for which figures are available) there have been 6.4 million abortions performed on residents of England and Wales. Of these, 143 (0.006%) were performed under Section 1(4), ie where the termination is immediately necessary to save the life of the pregnant woman or to prevent grave permanent injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman.

A further 23,778 (0.37%) abortions were performed under Section 1(1)(c), ie that the continuance of pregnancy would involve the risk to the life of the woman, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated.

Get back to us when you personally have an abortion.
Till then, STFU.

I don't think that someone should have to perform the activity in question before they can talk about it. After all, I post in threads about sex.

And where has that gotten you? ;)

And why is anything that goes on in Britain any of my business?

I'll go a step further, why is it any of my business, no matter where it happens?

I agree, it's not really anybody's business. I'm genuinely glad that so few abortions are to save the life of the mother, that sounds like a highly traumatic day to me. It also shows that our healthcare system is working ok, healthy women staying healthy. Good.

I don't understand why people (mostly men) get so riled up about this. The same people wouldn't give two shits about dead Arab kids abroad or children dying of cholera in their millions due to lack of clean water and education, but abort an unwanted foetus before it turns into something lifelike? EVIL MURDERBITCH RARRARRARAARARA!

Eyer is distorting again. It's not risk to health, it's risk to life.

the continuance of pregnancy would involve the risk to the life of the woman, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated.

That's a much different measure than mere risk to health. Eyer changed a key word around. You have to watch him because he likes to lie like this.

Wow, its almost as if women in England are allowed to make choices regarding their own bodies themselves, instead of having men try to dictate to them!

I love living in a country where morons whose only standard of education is "Somebody told me it was in the bible" do NOT have a big sway over the political and legal decisions made.

David Alton is still banging on about abortion? I thought he would have realised by now that it's pretty much a non-issue in British politics. Despite lies from The Torygraph believed by retards like Ish's whelp.

brits + abortion = apathy

we fail at bible thumping.

In eras and places where both contraception and abortion are unavailable, the rate of passive and active infanticide is insanely high. It's variable, but the average across these populations is approximately 25%.

I think we can all agree that's a far greater evil.

Birth control, be it contraception or abortion, is humanity's single greatest invention. The alternative is a galloping maternal mortality/morbidity rate, orphan trains, infanticide, knitting needles and sepsis.

I'm a deather. That doesn't even roll off the tongue well. Can I be a Reaper instead?

Well said, Led Astray - If only the talking heads in the US had your sensibilities.

every sperm is sacred, but a woman can be easily replaced.
