That’s upset me now no response I would of thought it would provoke some response

posts are such a big deal for many people on here that I think it's best that we make them as easy as possible to rack up. Why be more restrictive? It's Literotica. I think the idea is to let people enjoy themselves.

Plus, there are time when 1-word posts are quite legitimate, as in some of the word play threads on the general board.

And finally, if you start giving credit for some posts and no credit for others, you immediately create the problem of which creteria should determine what's a "good" post and what isn't. That's an element of subjectivity that can do nothing but cause division and resentment, IMO.

I see were you are coming from

I picked "Don't care what others do" as my response. The number of posts someone has doesn't mean a bloody thing to me, nor does the brevity of a post.

Actually, what bothers me the most is the off-topic, 'Let's Fuck' style of chatroom banter. These posts rack up fast, have absolutely nothing to do with the topics at hand, and really distract from the discussed topics.

I'd rather see a million happy faces or "I agree" or "Good Post!" style of responses than one "Ohh baby, you look hot in that dress! I want to suck your pussy until my lips blister," thread responses.

For me personally, I come here to get ideas, chat with other authors and to post my stories. If I can get some feedback on them, great! Everything else is inconsequential. Having 100,000 posts or 1,000 posts gets you the same thing.

Absolutely nothing.

i sent this response first as a PM to the person who started this poll:

Posts aren't a measure of a person's value around here. They're just numbers that spark interest and keep people coming back. I think it's dangerous to attach too much status to them and if laurel starts coming up with rules for what's a valid post and what isn't, the post totals just gain that much more status. And how would she enforce it anyway?

Meaningless posts

How do you feel about someone going through an entire board, making one sentence responses to everything? Sometimes the posts actually apply to the thread. Most times they don't.

The purpose seems to be just racking up posts.

Activity for the sake of activity. Is there anything more pointless than that?

I don't mind people's posts, but I do see how some can get a lot of posts when they respond to every single person who posts. Like in the pic section. some people comment on EVERY SINGLE PIC instead of saying..."hey, nice pictures".

i answered your question in your first posting. is that not what was required? was it not a sufficient answer?

here is your question:
Should one word posts or just a smiley face count as a legitimate post as most times they add nothing to a thread?

my answer:
yes

do you want reasons? i'll gladly supply some.

1. perhaps racking up the posts is done in order to eliminate that ridiculous 'virgin' tag which many males and females are horrified at suddenly discovering they have.

2. perhaps those occasional one-liners are used to lighten the mood somewhat. you know, take a little of the seriousness out of the day?

3. lots of authors write on here to get the urge out of their system. maybe the one-liners are also a way of removing that urge too.

4. from experience and from feedback i have received, i know that a lot of authors actually appreciate my one liner sense of humour. i have cheered a lot of people up over various times. i don't intend refraining doing it. if i feel the urge to write them and if i feel there are some people around who need the stress relief of a laugh, then i'll continue to do my little bit to help.

5. don't you think the lit.com organisers have enough to do without having to delete all the irrelevant comments made on the postings?

6. perhaps some have hand injuries and tend to write short snippets when they need to.

i hope this is helpful in some way
*going to rest hands*

nice AV, DVS.

Wild, I think you did a great job summing it up. Nothing to add to that.

fanzee1

thank you dear :)

to add another:

7. sheer politeness. doesn't a thank you go a hell of a long way, also it shows a little respect, don't you think?

a rhetorical question, not requiring the wasted space of an answer ;)

but,

will we get to see when the engine falls off? i need more research material for my novel ;)

actually to add this edit...
the voting choices in the poll don't sound too respectful i notice.

are there not more important things to set up a poll about than short posts? can longer postings not also be completely ridiculous and unnecessary? in fact, why have postings at all? aren't the majority of the threads unnecessary? other sites manage without them, could lit?

Hmmmm I am incapable of one worded posts, just not in my nature.

I am a fairly nice guy but I always have an opinion on virtually anything.

I found the "virgin" label amusing, but also not important.

Simply because I know a great many people are just not interested in typing out lengthy replies for anything. That and maybe they do need that large number beside their name (who knows).

I am fairly active on a forum (totally distinct from Lit in that its a wargamers site). I am quite well known mostly cause when I say something I put my full effort into it.

No wishy washy simple quick little answers for me eh.

I am not the wisest or smartest on many things, but I have little trouble putting in a comment on matters I feel comfortable with.

Wild specifically mentioned this thread to me eh.

I sit her totally butt naked as we speak eh (but its summer, hot, middle of the night, and well I don't wear clothes at home anyway so it says nothing really). I can be horny and right into it one second and then icily serious at the snap of a finger.
Just me being me.

I have inserted comments into threads before and been made to feel I should just fuck off and leave heheh. Then again.... some of us just have nothing much to say and resent those that are spontaneously articulate.

Each story I have written here for Lit has been well so easy for me to write I often can't believe people get paid to do this sort of thing heheh.

But I have met maybe 5 people in all my time online over the years that can even chat in the same level of volume as me.

And if you think this post has been long heheh.

i say if the one word or something is appropriate for the thread's subject then it's fine, you can put one word if thats all that comes to mind and is going to add to the flow of the thread that the person wants to add it to. :rose:

Geez...it sounds like virginity is as problematic and blurry a concept here as it is IRL.

It's unfortunate they picked the term "virgin" on a site about sex I suppose.

Unfortunate too I suppose some will be troubled by the term.

Actually anyone thinks I am "really experienced" would be disappointed too heheh.

I'm not troubled, precisely...just bemused. BTW, I just noticed that my html was disabled. I don't remember choosing to do this. How'd that happen and how do I get it back?

SlickTony, just go to your control panel and fiddle around with the options there. I'm not really sure... :p
