One last...

Do you know what I like best about the movie Good Will Hunting? The ending.

I like that conversation Will and his buddy have one day on the job site, where his buddy says he doesn't want goodbyes and all that fuss, he just wants one day to show up in the morning to pick Will up for work, and find out Will isn't there. That's it. 'Cause if that happens, his buddy will know Will has moved on to bigger and better things, or at the very least he'll know Will's chasing a dream or trying to realize his potential.

If you left CD, I'd miss you. But I'd also wish you well. If you didn't show up for a few weeks I'd wonder where you'd gone to, but I think in the end I would accept that you're out there living life, not just sitting here talking about it. I'm not saying we regulars here at the AH are all losers, but we're different than the people who don't visit the AH on a regular basis. We use the AH as more of a crutch than anything. So if one day you decided to walk without the crutch, I'd cheer you on.

But I'd still miss you.

Beautifully put, Mack

For everyone there is one last everything. No one lives forever and for us all it will eventually comes down to one last time for everything we do. One last car ride. One last day of work. One last argument. One last assignment. One last email to a friend. One last paycheck. One last time grocery shopping. One last dinner. One last smile. One last kiss. One last carress. One last blink. One last breath.

And one last post.

Before anyone asks, I’m not leaving. At least not today, but perhaps I’m just in a reflective, and slightly morbid, mood.

My absence from Lit of the last few weeks got me to thinking… Would anyone miss me if I never went back? Who would? And for how long? And also, if I knew I was never going back, what should my last post, if any, be? A thank you to all? A thank you to a few, or one? A general goodby? A general fuck you all? Or just fade away? What would you want people to remeber about you?

I’ve read many good-byes on Lit in my 2 years here, some happy, some sad, sore reflective, some nasty. But also a great many of the former AH regulars just faded away, never to be heard from again. It’s amazing how in this world where everything is so accessable and easy to find how people that you have known for years can simply disapear so quickly and completely.

To be perfectly honest, I’m not really sure where I’m going with this thread. I suppose I just had some rambling thoughts and needed to post them somewhere.

Feel free to add your own thoughts or thread jack as you will.

CD… over and out.
i, for one, would be very sad if you slipped away. i notice. however, my life has been enhanced because of you. odd that...since i dont really *know* you.
i wonder the same thing too...sometimes... would anyone really notice? dunno but i know that one day, when/if i grow up, i'll move away as will most if not all of us from Lit.
huge hugs to you, mr. man.

CD,

"There's a time and place for everything." I read that in some book. Bestseller. Think I got it from English Lady. Sounds profound. Probably Hindu. Too Zen-like for anything western.

Anyway, assuming that's right, and I do, then if this is no longer the time orr this place for you, I'll wish you well, but miss your presence. There are too few "good guys" not to regret having one fewer around. That's even truer for ducks.

The Right Rev. Rumple Foreskin
