First off, let me just say I'm not here to talk crap about any authors. Quite the opposite actually.

There are heaps of authors on the site that have given us a very good first story and then never write another one. I've tried sending these guys a message but they never reply. Here's an example of one I was looking at before.

http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=324627

Despite a crappy title and some questionable spelling and grammer, the story is actually quite good and I was looking forward to more of his stories. Unfortunately he, I'm assuming it's a he, never wrote one.

Anyone else know of any other authors who've only written one story? Albeit, one good story?

Another possibility

While I would imagine that most one hit wonders are indeed just that, I dare say that a number of these might also be authors who are trying out a different genre or a different style. Instead of incurring the wrath of readers who like their main forte they post stories under a different username in order to branch out in other areas.

One Hits.

Some authors have very fragile ego's as well, even the least crtitism will make them walk, even if it's constructive.

Another thing that I've learned is a that a lot of authors are/were actually in the process of being published.

I read a very well-written, erotic story. Remembered the title of the story, the author's Lit handle and everything. I tried looking for it some months later and had the hardest time finding it.

It turns out that she had to remove the story because she had just made a deal with a publisher to turn it into a novel. Once you've been given the green light from your publisher, you can't have the story up on any websites.

At the end of the day, she only had one story left on Literotica. She was too busy with her novels, so she doesn't write here anymore.

Just giving yet another alternative theory. :)

I think that's a good point that's been raised about trying out different styles & also seeing if different audiences appreciate the work outside of the writers "normal" audience.

To be honest, some feedback can also be quite negative - it's not even constructive per se (I mean, someone saying "I don't like it" without explaining why is frustrating to say the least).

From a personal angle, I've only posted stuff on here that is semi-appropriate - I've got stuff that's been posted on other sites around the web that just wouldn't "fit" in here so to speak.

Oi vey!

Some of us are really rreeaallyy really slow writers. It's also not impossible that the author wrote the story and then decided that erotica was not their thing and started posting elsewhere.

Although I wouldn't presume to consider my only story here a "wonder," I can say from personal experience that I've only submitted one story so far because I believe it is my only erotic story of publishable quality. I have several others in the works, but, in my opinion, they are not ready for release. They do not meet my own standards of originality and quality. I revise them periodically, but it is a slow process, and I feel no need to rush it. I will share them when they're ready.

That said, I sincerely appreciate the feedback I've received from my first story. It has encouraged me as a writer, in every regard. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read my story and comment on it.

There is also the possibility that some people only have the one good story in them. Or at least that's what they feel.

Yeah, I'm not presumptuous enough to say I'm any good, but after publishing a couple of stories here I feel like I'm just repeating myself with anything new I write. It just come off as boring to me, so I just make do with reading other people stories until I get inspiration - which can be a long time.
