A buddy and I were talking about our ideal one hit wonder compilation CD, so I thought I would throw the question out.

"Temptation" by Corina
"Mexican Radio" Wall of Voodoo
"True" Spandeau Ballet
"God Tonight" Real Life
"Glamorous Life" Sheila E

Boy is it ever obvious that I grew up in the 80s and early 90s.

And what about the no-hit wonders...Vanity 6, Appolonia Kotero, Jermaine Jackson..in fact any Jackson that isn't Janet or Michael. Though, in truth, I'm partial to LaToya and Tito. :D That would be such a fun album of total garbage. I'd definitely buy it.

Damn, is it obvious that I am really, really old. Who the hell are those guys?

I loved that song AND Arthur Brown! Did you know that Carl Palmer was the drummer for Arthur Brown and that ELP did a remake of it?

Er.... no I didn't but thank's, do you mean ELO and if not then who are ELP....?

The Cyrkle, "Red Rubber Ball"
Don McLean, "American Pie"
Gerardo, "Rico Suave"
Beck, "Loser"

Tons more, too, but I can't think right now. But to be honest.. Isn't Don McLean, like, the official one-hit wonder of the United States of America? Can't have an album like that without him. *chuckling*

Beautiful call with Gerardo and Rico Suave, Endlessly. "I eat 'em raw like sushi."

I don't know the name of the artists, but whoever those old weird Latin guys were who came out with "Macarena" have to be included.

Also that bizarre "I'm a Barbie Girl" song - one of those things that when you hear it your face winces and it almost makes you ashamed to be a human being...

White Lion "Wait"
Vanilla Ice "Ice Ice Baby"
Paula Abdul Anysong from her one album

One Album wonder, maybe even a Half Album wonder
Milli Vanilli

That is all I can think of now...........there are more though in both the One Hit Wonder Song and Album Category

Wow, these are great. We missed alot of these. I to grew up in the 80's so alot of the suggestions are some of my fav's. Thanks for the suggestions.

CelestialBody, the late 80's/early 90's hit remake of Locomotion was done by Kylie Minogue.

Oliver, the Norwegian techno band Aqua did "Barbie Girl."

Chuckus, Paula Abdul's had four albums, and 9 top ten hits. ("Straight Up" "Cold Hearted Snake" "Knocked Out" "The Way that you Love Me" "Will you Marry me?" "Rush, Rush" etc.) I think she's disqualified. Frighteningly, she's been too successful.

Oh, wait. What about "Toy Soldiers" by Martika?

Not to burst your bubble too much, Chuck, but Paula Abdul had 2 albums. "Blowing Kisses In The Rain" was on her 2nd album.

OH MICKEY, YOU'RE SO FINE......

I don't remember the artist but she never made another hit.

"We Can Dance" (some British Momma's boy creation)
J. Geil Band....one album but it had 2 killer hits.
"Night Shift", the Commadores (without Lionel Richie)
"I Can Dream About You" (artist unknown)
And the album done by Don Johnson.

Hanging head in shame....

Toni Basil did the "Oh Mickey your so fine" song and I bought it.......I'll get my coat.....

Well, I stand corrected about Paula Abdul. Oopsy.

How about these:

Nina- 99 Balloons (I think that is it)
Men without Hats- Safety Dance (is that the one you were thinking of GuyJD?)
Nelson Brothers had one and I cant think of the song

JGeils Band....the 2 songs were Centerfold and Freezframe.
"We Can Dance" ... Men Without Hats
I can Dream about you .... Dan Hartman

What can I say....I am a music junkie.

Also...I suggest Bananarama Cruel Summer...though they may have had a few others that were decent. Yes, the had a song named "Venus". SHe's got it...yeah baby she's got it. :)

It's funny how several bands that most folks think of one hit wonders have a cabal of fans who think they had multiple chart toppers. Mine is Bananarama. "It ain't what you do (It's the way that you do it)" with Fun Boy Three (Specials refugees) and the actually decent "Robert DeNiro's Waiting."

Geils was actually good for several years in the mid to late 70s before the Freeze Frame album hit. Check out a live album called "Blow Your Face Out."

For the truly short-lived, how about "Living in a Box" by Living in a Box? Always a bad sign when you have one idea and you use it for your song, album, and band name. Or "Just Got Lucky" by Jo Boxers?

"Locomotion" has been charted by several different folks since Little Eva (with GFR's version probably the best). Tiffany covered it and the Tommy James song after the Kylie Minogue version. We are probably due another bad version any day now.

I guess the Spin Doctors had several hits on their album but as near as I could tell, it was the same song. Not a lot of creativity there.

OKAY, CALL ME CRAZY...

Of all of the things in this world such as world peace or hunger, cure for terminal diseases, or finding another source of energy to use other than gasoline, this damn post was on my mind the most as I was working at my job today. And all I did, while working of course, was thinking of other 1 Hit 1ders. Aw well, let's see what I could think of:

WHAM: "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go"
GLORIA GAYNER: "I Will Survive"
RICK DEES: "Disco Duck"
BANANARAMA: "Venus" (they made something else but who remembers?)
TIFFANY: "I Think We're Along Now"

Don't cut yourself short, OUTSIDER. I bought the song, "Evertime You Go Away" (You take a piece of me with you). I don't remember the artist but up until his passing away last year, nothing else was heard of him.

Really really hanging head in shame....

GuyJD that song was done by Paul Young and I bought that one too......I really must learn some good taste and soon.....I'll get me coat then.

PS. Paul Young is still around and posing about on a Harley in London some place.

+PS. a lot of the artists mentioned had more than one hit in the UK but never made it big in the US.
