Once Upon a Dime

Don't you just love an inquisitive "noob"? Maybe this alt will be the one that immortalizes.

A new-in-the-box exercycle at a second-hand sports gear shop, costing much less than anything on the floor of Dick's.

i'd be happy with a nickel. my low tolerance is great for my budget.

A Brooks Brothers suit which required only a minor scalloping of the jacket collar. All but unworn.

Love me longtime, $3.

Also pre-Google (not thrifting, but sorta related): a local fast food company was selling Pez dispensers with the head of their mascot for around two bucks each. I'd drive through, grab lunch and a set of three Pez dispensers, go home, eat lunch, post the set on eBay, and sell it for at least $20, sometimes $40. I did this every day for like three months. :D

That's funny!

As George Carlin said "nail two pieces of wood together and some schmuck will buy it."

An original and very ornate Enid Collins peacock purse for 50 cents. Still have it somewhere.

I paid $20 for a pair of unused goose down pants at a local thrift store. They were made special by Eddie Bauer back when EB made real cold weather gear and not the fashion shit they sell today. I've used them on numerous occasions at -40 and have been completely comfortable outside for stints as long as 10 hours in the wind. The only issue is that they aren't color matched with my polar parka.

I thought you were a Patagucci man.

Got a copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the PS2 for $25 bucks. Because the Marvel license kept (at the time and continues but will probably stay once Disney figures all it's shit out) bouncing around Marvel games often went out of production and became impossible to find. MvC2 was routinely going for 125+ but this mom at a garage sale was essentially dumping her kids stuff.

My Dad got an equally impressive Earthbound for the SNES, I have no idea what he paid for it because with video games and books he'll often ask the seller for a few random prices for stuff in a box and then offer them a "fair" price for the box. (Which depending on his mood is generally actually fairish. A little less than if they sold the entire box at their asking prices but they were never realistically going to sell the entire box. Unfair if you factor in that on occasion he does know good and damn well that one item in the box is worth more than he's paying even covered in the trash of 8 copies of Mario and Duck Hunt. Seriously I had so many of those my brother made a Flava Flav necklace out of one.

A boyfriend years ago received Ben wa balls from his mother for Christmas. She found them at a garage sale and thought they were pretty.

LOL, that stuff's fine for skiing or for a "car coat", but I'm not going to mortgage the house to stay warm up north. That's serious business. And of course, no Patagucci is bought unless it's on 50% off sale!

I once bought an early Hagstrom bass guitar for $50cdn which i Laureled on eBay for $2200usd.

I also did a brisk business buying vintage Marshall amps in the UK and reselling them in the USA for 5-10 times more.

( the power transformers were the same for both markets, just had to change one wire jumper and swap out the Euro power cord with a north american computer cord)

Sean: you could pay for your honeymoon doing this... Just bring a guitar and amp each trip as a gift for LTR to resell stateside.
