"I don't really care who he is. It doesn't make him any exception. If you're a racist, you're always going to be a racist. And for him to want to erase it I just think it's wrong," she said.

I won't get into whether or not Mark Walberg should receive a pardon for his past crimes. I'm for focused on the idea that if someone holds racist ideas, it's impossible for them to change. If that's true, then what is the point of trying to educate people about racism and prejudice?

I think people change, if they want to change. Only they know if the change is sincere.

People do change usually in response to a specific situation.

I have known of several neo-nazis who converted to Judaism.
One example is Larry Trapp who was head of the KKK in Iowa in the 1990's.

I raised my kids to treat others kindly and fairly (one daughter is married to a black guy) but too many years of living changed my mind about blacks. Ditto females. Ditto Canadians. All are inferior life forms and meant by God for use as livestock.

Limeys, ragheads, and Ozzies are varmints suited for sport like hunting. Give deer and foxes a rest, stalk commonwealth assholes.

*Aussies. If you're going to hunt us, JBJ, at least know what you're looking for.

Also if you could start with Nicole Kidman that would be tops!

We sent you Mel Gibson to improve your breeding stock, we cant do miracles.

You Americans are getting awfully uppity. Time for you to come back into the fold, I think. You must accept this 'independence' lark has gone badly wrong. No shame in admitting it.

I don't think so.

George Wallace comes to mind.

So do some, but certainly not all, of my older relatives.

Yeah.

Old George spent the last decades of his life having his diaper changed by a black man. It did give him a different perspective on life.

i think people can change, but some of the things mark has said really make me question just how much he has changed as opposed to how much he really just doesn't want to think about it anymore.

eta: ohhh, i see he kinda changed his mind on actually apologizing to his victim. that's a new one. last i read on this he didn't think it was necessary at all.

Why can't something learned be unlearned, or something new learned to take its place? It does require a willing mind.

yes, like learning you need to get a pardon for your race motivated beating in order to get a license for your business venture.

if it wasn't possible to change, we'd still be dealing with slavery. every kid raised racist would have stayed racist.

Is that why he wants a pardon? I couldn't understand why he's bothering.

I don't believe "once a racist always a racist" but I see no reason why he should be pardoned.

Yet Democrats insist that Robert Byrd, Harry Truman, and Hugo Black be forgiven their past KKK membership and apparent racism because they renounced it and apologized. No double standard here.

you know wahlberg is a democrat, right? and you know this is about a conviction for racially motivated beatings, right?

also, the wonderful ways this comment could be spun against you are just... well, amusing, really.
