I was on the commute from a worksite with my parents. And all is going fine and dandy until there is a traffic jam somewhere ahead of us. We start to feel the snag on 111th ave as we turn onto 149th st. We slowly plunk along as traffic jams normally do - 107th, the jam is still there, 101st and it's still there, at 95th we get out to go to the 7-11 and take advantage of the bank machine there, head back onto 149th st. We finally come to around 89th and we find out who's causing the traffic jam. It turns out to be a pizza deliveryman who stopped in front of an apartment building to deliver a pizza when a parkinglot was just five metres away and was blatantly empty and just a turn off the road.

My parents were screaming at the guy and I was laughing at the guy - the gut was going to get fired for causing a 25 block traffic jam, just to deliver the pizza. I feel sorry for the dude.

I don't. That sounds idiotic!

Yeah, he was a bit of a slovenly" looking guy who was looking like he was having a hard time with his job and this mistake was not helping him one bit.

I used to deliver pizzas.

Worst thing I'd do was get horribly lost, though. The pizza was cold and an hour late, but at least I didn't affect traffic.

Actually, I used to work in a town right next to an Army base, and our territory included that base and all the single-soldier barracks in it. I got GREAT tips just for being a girl, and a teenager.

I'd deliver pizzas to your door any day.

HELL YEA! I bet you did! I know what those soldiers are like....

LOL, at least you found a reason for the traffic jam. Here it is not unusual for there to be a long traffic jamand yet all of a sudden it starts up and there is no apparent reason why it was in existence in the first place. I thought when I first came here I was just missing something, but I hear lots of locals complaining about the same thing.

There is a joke around that my little cousin LOVED to tell about half a year ago. The finish line is that once Dutch drivers failed their driver's exam 3 times, they get yellow licence plates :D

We have traffic jams like that on the Whitemud right at Terwillegar. When you cross the Whitemud Creek and get right into the Terwillegar area near the big intersection, it usually slows down because 30 blocks ahead is the Quesnel Bridge over the North Saskatchewan River. Lots of names here, please excuse my liberal use of 'em. Now at the Quesnel Bridge there used to be a lot of accidents, especially during the winter and it would bog the Whitemud Freeway right down. Now people are being really cautious around the area and it bogs right down even when there is no traffic accident on the Quesnel. It backs the damn freeway, every rush hour as people slow their cars down to a crawl as they daintily cross the bridge. It's hella annoying.

My first Real Job (besides babysitting) was in a pizza place, when I was 14. I didn't deliver, obviously - I just answered phones and took walk-in orders. I was one of about three people (of a staff of maybe 10) who spoke English well enough to answer the phones, heh. (Well, except for the manager, whose English was just fine but he couldn't be bothered to answer the phones.)

That was also when a 19-year-old guy tried to pick me up. I was a very immature 14 and I was terrified. His English was NOT good, so when we went to lunch one of the drivers whose English was better came along with us. It was quite awkward and I hated it the whole time. The 19-year-old left shortly after; I heard he went back to Pakistan.

I got sick of pizza real fast, btw. :)
