I would just like to say that as I write this I am traveling 55mph along interstate 66 in northern Virginia.

err, a laptop, obviously, but I've never heard of a wireless connection that lets someone be online while travelling in their car....... hehehe, neato etoile :).

oh, so is it one of those little handheld things? I've had a teacher with one of those before, they're really neat.

Yup. It's a hiptop (more commonly known as the T-Mobile Sidekick). I love that thing. Now I can keep up with Lit all day, even while I'm at work!

My science teacher has one of those, they're super cool :). I didn't know you could get wireless internet on them though.

I assume you weren't posting whilst driving.:D

That sounds like the kind of toy I would love although I'm not sure about taking it to work. I'd never get anything done.

I expect they're expensive are they?

Ah, I was careful not to mention whether I was posting while driving or not!

They can be expensive. The original black-and-white model is going for about $50-60 on eBay, and I got my color model (still the original format) from there for $120 with some goodies thrown in. The new model (Sidekick II) retails for (I think) $200 but it can be had more cheaply (or sometimes free) if you sign up for a service contract.

As for getting things done at work - I'm a sign language interpreter, and there are almost always two of us for any given event. We take 20-minute shifts so when I'm in the off seat I can play around with the Sidekick. :)

I'm not sure how the Dollars relate to the pound but it doesn't sound wildly expensive. I would treat myself but I think it would really be the beginning of the end. I'm online about 7 hours a day when I'm working and from morning til night at the weekend. I don't think I need my geek status raising to posting on a message board whilst doing the weekly shop. :D

Sweet, I got the new sidekick II just the other day. It's great. I've been sending Dolfie pervy email on it and using the instant messenger service.

If any of you guys/gals want to hit me up my AIM is uncle betticus.

hinthinthinthint. Just tell me who you are.

Disclaimer! I know posting addresses and phone numbers is verboten here but this is AIM and you can put this in your profile.

Kind of - I'm not 100% sure of all the features a Blackberry offers. Do they do web browsing too?

I've seen these in the T-mobile store. They look really neat but the price is prohibitive for me. How did you get it so cheaply on ebay? Did you have to bid on it?

wow I really do like this kinda toys ( maybe even more than other toys ! yup I must be a perv !! ;) )
Lucky you Etoile it must be great fun !!! :)

Although I thought for my aims ( long words files , pics, , powerpoint files and other similar stuffs i need for my job ) maybe is better proper laptop (or a mac ) of really small size . I know they exist but I dont know anything about them !!
I already got 2 laptops but they both are almost PC sized and really too heavy to carry around easily !!!

Any suggestion about a laptop really small sized ???

thanks in advance !! :rose:

:)

ps Etoile I apologize to hijack your thread :)

The ones you have seen in T-Mobile stores are the second model, the Sidekick 2. I have the original version - Sidekick 1.5 if you will. (Sidekick 1 was black and white, Sidekick 1.5 and Sidekick 2 are color.)

Because mine isn't the latest model, it is selling more cheaply on eBay. The SK2 is going for a lot more.

I also have the Sidekick II, its awesome. Like you Etoile, I like being able to surf Lit at work ;o) Love my Sidekick ;o)

I use a laptop and sprint pcs with vision option, and snap dialer software:) when I'm not using truck stop wifi services.
