I was shocked when the producer of "Blind Date" called to invite me for an interview. I had my doubts about the authenticity of the people on the show, but even if they didn't actually pick me it would be pretty cool to see how it worked.
The asst. producer was expecting me when I arrived at the studio and explained how the process worked. First on the agenda was filling out different forms releasing the show from liability. Next she gave me a list of questions I would answer for the taped interview - specifically how to describe myself and what I looked for in a woman. I was prepared but still pretty nervous. Describing the type of woman I'm attracted to was easy - girl-next-door looks with a great figure, an outgoing personality and very secure and assertive about her sexuality - maybe a little on the wild side. During the taping I felt very awkward and remember thinking how silly the whole thing was. Afterwards they thanked me for my time and said they would call if I were chosen.
Three days later the producer left me a voice mail message asking me to call her. Much to my surprise she told me they thought I'd do well on the show. The next step was matching me with someone compatible (they really do it) before taping. I started having second thoughts, but it was too late to back out. I can only hope my date doesn't turn out to be a total disaster.
