On sig lines...

Ah, the joys of starting relatively trivial threads on the excuse that you haven't had coffee yet.

So I'm wondering what people like and dislike in other people's sig lines? How big is too big? Is there actually anything inappropriate to put in a sig line? (It's an erotic story website, after all...) Do too many colours piss you off and make you wonder who put something in your drink last night? Are links that sound sexy but aren't cruel and misleading? How do you feel about quotes in siglines? Quoting stories, other Litsters, famous people? What about pictures? Are pictures ok, but only within a certain size? Do animations bother you?

These are things I actually wonder about, for very little reason.

I used to read people's sig lines avidly, looking for snappy quotes or witty one-liners, but after ten years on the internet, the thrill has somewhat faded (along with the interest)

I still have them turned on, but mostly I just scroll past them.

I think of sigs, AVs, titles, etc. like tee-shirts or bumper stickers - popular means of expression. So depending on who's wearing 'em, I'll read or ignore. Really long sigs are a nuisance though, and mostly get ignored. And yeah, too many colors or wacky graphics I don't bother with (I'm a senior citizen and need to care for my eyes).

I read them, simply because, for me, it's almost like a peek inside their minds.....seeing part of what makes them tick.

On the other hand, if they're really, really long, or have huge pictures then they can be annoying, and I just scroll past them.

A quick qlimpse inside someone else's mind is tantalyzing.

I look at sigs as the current equivalent to taglines from when I was posting on local BBSes. (Are there still such things?) I still have prolly half a dozen files for Blue Wave of cutesy, obscure, witty, or thought-provoking things lying on a disc somewhere or another.

And, like with taglines, I personally like to keep it all to a minimum. But that's just me...like others have said, if it's too much or too busy I just scroll by and don't really notice...

I just trimmed my sig down significantly. I love to read people's sigs. I like seeing what they chose to list, what quote they picked, and if they've got a pic thread. But mine was really expanding there for a while.

Some sigs are just too long. If it takes up and entire screen, too much. And the "What manner of _____ are you?" survey driven images...I dunno, just really not my thing.
