on getting a tattoo...

Okay - this is more a "how much" question...

But how much does getting a tattoo on your lower back hurt? I have been told that it is fairly painful and to stay away from any long lines there - which increases the pain.

Unfortunately, the design I like has long lines and I am not wavering on where I want it (lower back).

So, anyone who has a tattoo there - how much really did it hurt?

My sister got a dreamcatcher tattoo on her back and the feathers spanned all the way down to her arse... she said it didn't hurt at all other than a few uncomfortable twinges. I don't see how something like that could not hurt... but I guess it would range differently with every person?

I have a circular tattoo on the small of my back, about 2-3 inches across. I describe it as a burning stinging sensation, especially when going across the backbone. When I had mine done my lover was with me, and when it felt more intense he'd squeeze my hand and lean down and kiss me - this is what I remember the most

If you really really want this tattoo I'd say go for it - in a day or two the pain will be a distant memory, and it's worth it when you see the result

Kristy I think it's very different from person to person. The tattoo you can see in my avatar, is the one that have hurt the most for me so far. And I think that's because it was right on the muscle, and there wasn't much body fat there.

But I agree, it sure it worth the pain, and the tattoo artist will always hold a break if you ask for it. You might want to check into him if he can recommend any sort of local anaesthesia that you can use.

I have a tat about two inches from the nape of my neck. It hurt like you wouldnt believe. Esp. on the bone. If you really want it though...it is worth it. Everyone is different. I knew someone who got a tat on the upper part of their breast (where it isnt supposed to hurt to bad) and she passed out from the pain. When I got mine, there was a guy who was getting his entire spine tatooed and he said it didnt hurt at all.So just go and get it over with...the time goes by fast and you will luv it!

The lower back is said to be one of the most painful places a woman can get a tattoo... but then, everyone's different, and I got my tatty there, and it was alright. Yes, it was bloody painful at times... bring a big pack of bazooka gum.... go through it as needed. And I had porn mags to look at, and an ex-fiance there to hold my hand. Some people get sick, some people get faint, some people bleed. I bled. Not tons, but enough that it was a pain in the ass for her (my tattoo artist). My ex almost passed out.

Each person is different.

my sister has a gorgeous lotus blossom tattoo there and she said it hurt fo fucking badly she was astonished. (It was not her first one.) But as several people have already said, everyone is different. Good luck.

I have multiple tat's and would offer this to you..............take ONE friend with you for support and that's it. Otherwise, you will feel like you have to "grin and bear it" to show strength, rather than asking the Tat artist if he can take a break for a minute to let you "catch your breath".

Tat's really are a state of mind when it comes to pain. For me, I wanted the tat's I got and did not care about the "pain" (though I must say only one of mine has even remotely "hurt" me, rather it was uncomfortable and not "painful").

If you have never had a tattoo before make sure and ask as many questions as you want to prior to getting into the "chair". Stick around a bit and watch the work in progress, if they will let you see from the "other" side. A good tattoo artist will let you ask as many questions as you want to and is clean and sterile.

I just wanted to thank everyone who replied and gave encouraging words.

I did it - I got my tattoo today - and I have to say the consensus was right. Although it hurt in places - I am glad I did it - I like it!
