on average how many views/votes do you get per story?

I'm new to the lit forum so forgive me if this thread has been started before. My stories stand at 6,400 views for the least and 35,000 for the most. The most votes on a story I have is 174 and the lowest is 24. Is this about average for Literotica? What are you highs and lows?

Impossible to say without more information. The category can have a vast impact on everything. You'll be lucky to get a few thousand views and a handful of votes in humor, but you're likely to see 10x that amount in incest.

A really good title/description can make a big difference. Position in the NEW list has an impact.

About the only way you can learn anything from the numbers is to keep building data with new stories, and compare them. ( and maybe against the toplists, although those are easy to skew )

Not unless the author gives them to you, or it appears in the views toplist, which isn't likely. There's only one of those, with no individual category rankings, so it's dominated by incest stories.

If they're all in one category, then you have a solid set of data there. Look at the ones with high views/votes. Is the title catchy? What day did it come out? ( Sunday sucks, BTW ) Was it near the top of the new list, or the bottom? Naturally, read back through the stories and see if you can see anything that stands out as better in the ones with highter numbers.

Anal stories are popular and tend to get a lot of views and votes. I believe the anal fans are also the most fussy when it comes to grading a story. It is hard to get a five out of them. I have had rave comments accompanied by a vote of four.

In your index there is a list of views, votes, average score and number of PC but nobody sees that list but you. The number of views is available for the top 500 stories and the top 500 poems, but nothing else.

The top lists--both total and category show the number of votes and the rating as well.

On the original question, there are no meaningful averages across categories, because the readership for separate categories varies quite a bit in response habits. Tighter comparisons can be made within categories.

I hate to point anybody to our resident train-wreck thread, but here's a couple of posts where I listed all my numbers as they were a few days ago. Just look at the single posts, and stay away from the rest of the thread, if you want to maintain your sanity *laugh*

I would just repost the stats, but it's a long wall of text, and it took long enough to format the first time.

I can't stress strongly enough: Avoid the rest of the thread where these come from.

I have stories in the Sci-Fi category and the numbers are very much lower - 5000 avg, but the ratings are 4.4 avg.....
In the Group Sex category there are more views 30 - 46 thousand but lower scores.....it doesn't matter how many votes there are, with few exceptions.....

I've never posted in anal or Incest/Taboo (will never in Incest/Taboo! I'm Catholic) but do write about anal in my other stories, what the hell! We can't put each other through the paces till we've had some nasty anal! Right?
It sounds like you're getting some good feedback, views, and votes on your efforts so I would be ok with it....This is a text porn site and not anywhere near the same dynamic as a visual site.....that said, I think that the audience appreciates good writing, pacing, action and sex as part of the story - maybe all of the story......

I did think the high comment count for LST3K Ep. series interesting given your other story comment count and the lower vote numbers than other chaptersm so it meant the comment average was very high!

That's a good rating and not a bad view count. Don't know what your vote and comment count is, but GM readers rarely either vote or comment.

75 votes and 7 public comments. Three private comments wondering if I'll ever write again. That they seem to have liked it makes posting another one all that more frightening.

Those are high counts for GM on the average.

I write in the Erotic Horror category (very low traffic normally)

Stories range from:

22 votes, 6,000 views, 3 comments

121 votes, 31,500 views, 16 comments

Depends on the subject matter and whether it's a contest entry or not.

Standalone stories get around 30 votes for me roughly. Contest stories around 60. Views vary, usually around 10,000 depending on how long the story has been out.

Fairly good for the Erotic Horror category, but very low in comparison to some of the other cats.

Scores are usually around 4.6, unless I bump off the main character in a particularly gruesome fashion
