Me? You? Everyone? The whole board? Seems like system overload again, we all like to talk too much. ;)

Boards failing to recognize replies and stuff, thats no biggie, whole site was inaccessible in the middle of the night.

I gotta say the servers here get work harder than anyplace I've seen. Just a lot of traffic. No doubt there's been a drive failure in one of the RAID arrays.

Either that or one of the flay rods has gone out of skew on the treddle.

It's slow as hell and it's happening very often recently, dammit !

In a RAID system, the idea is that the server switches from one hard drive to another in cases of failure.

Yes but the loss of redundancy will cause a slow down. With a SCSI Mirror RAID two drives contain the same data and each drive is accessesed when multile users are requesting data. this eases the work load of both drives and speeds up the system. If one drive fails the system continues but now the good drive is working twice as hard and data requests take longer.

I can agree with that.

I know that mysql is free, but with as much traffic as this site gets it would seem that they would move to a more robust database like DB2, MS SQL Server, or Oracle. They have to be realizing some serious returns.

It's the heat. I blame everything on the heat.

The slow board, the low results from last night's selling, the fact that I'm sitting here dripping and panting without being turned on first...

It's the heat.
