OMG! A group of 20 somethings told me they never heard of Dr. Strangelove.

I tried to educate them, but 1/2 of them never heard of Peter Sellers. Whatever shall we do?

I had heard of it, but I didn't watch it until earlier this year, on the recommendation of someone on here. Great, great, great movie.

I feel so old when that happens. I've encountered younger people who had never heard of Animal House, the Vietnam War, Nixon resigning, the Bicentennial, DB Cooper, The Kent State Massacre, and Apollo Program.

I also have yet to meet a 30-something or younger understand my reference to George Orwell's 1984 when I tell them I want them to do a doubleplusgood job.

Being fair that's a pretty stupid reference to make. And nobody under the age of 30 has any reason to know about Dr. Strangelove. It's not a huge flick like Casablanca or anything.

You've met a lot of uneducated young people. That's sad.

Heh.... a few weeks ago, I made my kidlets sit and watch The Gods Must Be Crazy.
At first, they rolled their eyes at me, but after a few minutes they were both in tears of laughter :D

there are people who haven't read 1984? weird. that was just one of those books you had to read in high school when i was in school and i'm not really that old.

See, that's my point. It's not worth knowing. It's stupid and immature, with no wit.

Now if you want to talk Caddyshack and the Pink Panther...

Dr. Strangelove is a classic. As well as Caddyshack and Pink Panther. Some things are expected to know without saying.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Saying that you don't like Napoleon Dynamite because it has no point is like saying you don't like Un Chien Andalou because it has no plot. The point of the movie was that it had no point. It was just a comedy poking fun at middle American blandness.

This is not acceptable.

We are better than this.

I liked 1984, but I remember a HS teacher telling us we would fail if we did not read it.
