Was watching the men's Pentathlon Pole vault tonight when a poor guy broke his pole in half. It hurt like hell when all the vibrating and great spring loaded forces from a pole bent in half got released through his lower hand! It happens. Dangerous sport. He could have broke his arm or gotten speared by it.
Well he's walking around rubbing his injured hand with an official while the announcer said his hand slipped off the pole and if must be because he had a problem before the jump that made his hand slip off.
He kept making it worse by saying the next guy was being stopped because he was out of turn! That guy said the box was damaged from the broken pole and it hadn't been repaired yet. I have no idea what that announcer was looking at but I'm 16 hours away and could see this happening easily. He never did figure it out or correct his repeated lost statements.
Come on, guys! Don't you have a director, producer, camera man, friend with a cell phone to say, hey, you might want to look at your screen sometime. He never saw or understood the broken pole or it's consequences! Whew, had to get that off my chest.
