Old farts- are you sad to see the music you grew up with become irrelevant?

I'm not an old fart, or at least not ready to admit it. Grew up listening to Motown and oldies mostly. It makes me so nostalgic to find a temptations stream or the like now, and I know I will miss it when they are gone.

Music itself never really becomes irrelevant, it is always enjoyable, whatever era it comes from, especially instrumental pieces.

Songs that speak of universal and enduring themes, like family, love, joy, fear, sadness, they also remain relevant throughout the ages, even if the musical style dates them to a specific era.

Songs with specific lyrics to a time or event become irrelevant to the current era, very often, but still often encapsulate something more abstract and relatable to current times, even if the specificity of it is now historical. People still sing “The Digger’s Song” from the 17th century as a rail against capitalism and greed, for example 😊

I’m delighted to see music I grew up with still around, but firmly in the historical era category now. There is always so much new to discover and enjoy, and it’s uplifting to see the evolutions and energy that new people bring to music. As it always has 😊
