Okay, serious question for an editor or admin...

Someone challenged me to write an incredibly violent story. No death, no snuff, but incredibly violent overtones. Not the sort of thing I normally write, nor really care to make a habit of, but I wrote an outline for myself and was wondering if someone well-acquainted with the rules of the site could possibly take an objective look at the synopsis. I was wondering if it was worth trying to post at all. Message me if you're willing to take a look.

Thanks in advance!

I don't see an issue as long as you're avoiding snuff or violent rape. I have a couple of pretty nasty pieces up myself and they have several deaths.

Just my 2 cents

BH,

I've had one story and two storylines either rejected or discouraged on this site. All three were Loving Wives BTB type stories (Burn the Bastards instead of Bitches each time) and were rejected due to violence being their primary focus. One, I ended up rewriting the ending and posting here, another I abandoned only half-written and the third I'm still rewriting hoping to find a way that it might be accepted as an Erotic Horror during the Halloween contest! :D

If you wish to compare the edited story for Lit (Burning Bridges) and the original story (posted on another site) just PM me or email me from my profile. You can compare the endings and made your own assumptions.

After discussions with Lit admins this is my understanding:
1. The focal point of the story (i.e. Money Shot, thing that gets the reader off) can't be the illegal violence or action.
2. Lit will not publish a story that promotes illegal violence.
3. Torture isn't considered extreme BDSM (yes I asked) :)
4. Waterboarding IS considered torture not water sports. ;)
5. Yes, using a blowtorch to burn the testicles of your stepfather who is cheating on your terminally ill mother as a means of persuading him to stay faithful until she passes is considered 'illegal violence'. (And yes that was my Mother's Day story that I abandoned!)

Whether you or I agree with any of this is pretty irrelevant. This is their site so it's their rules.

My position is pretty simple (basically since I'M pretty simple): it's their sandbox so it's their rules. Lit is one of only two places that I'm aware of that erotic BTB-type stories can reach a good sized audience. So I basically live by the deep philosophy that I don't shit in the pool if I plan to swim there!

Best of luck with whatever you choose to do BH.

LIT's rules are: No sex (including voyeurism) with humans appearing to be underage. No bestiality with natural animals. No snuff-during-sex. And no torture or rape unless the victim eventually enjoys it. Beware of disfigurement too -- I had a story rejected because the MC was about to drill a hole in her forehead. (Like A Hole In The Head was approved after I clarified that she only considered the action.)

But yes, many LIT stories contain graphic violence. I've seen more than a few BtB and ultraviolence scenarios in Loving Wives and Graphic Horror pieces.

I wrote an outline for myself and was wondering if someone well-acquainted with the rules of the site could possibly take an objective look at the synopsis.
Sure, PM it to me.

Your post proves what I have said fot a long time. You can flat out torture a woman here as proven by many btb stories but not the men of coursr.

I think its looked at by category. Eh and nh violence againt either gender seems okay. But in lw and nc its limited to women.

My thought is that the whiny mouth breathing male readership who come here to get off on women being hurt are very quick to cry and report stories where the guy is hurt. Whereas other categories with a less sexist readership just roll with all of it.

So the site probably figures its heading it off at the pass to get them "fixed" ahead of time.

After all we have to cater to misogyny here.

In my entry for the recent April Fools Day contest, which obviously was accepted for posting and which placed in the contest, four men were gutted and murdered. Off stage, though, which is the essential point, I think. The less graphically the violence is shown in the story, the more likely that the story will be accepted here.

Laurel posted this on the story ideas forum:

These things are tricky. I tend to be more lenient when a scene is in the service of a plot. Movies often have horrific scenes where a man's family is killed in front of him, but it's done so to horrify the viewer and to show character motivation (revenge). This is different from scenes which are put there for no other reason than with the expectation that the reader will be thrilled to watch another human being suffer/be disfigured/be killed.

It's very hard to get these things right when you have 100-200 stories to get through a day. I'll admit mistakes are made. I basically try to get a feel for the story and go from there. More literary/plot-driven stuff will get a pass. Death and disfigurement written for a sexual thrill will not.
