I've been watching a bike on E-Bay.

It's local, I've gone down to check it out. I like it.

It has a bit under two days left on it's auction, the highest bid so far is around $900.00.

I have put in a bid. E-Bay has a set up which allows me to place an upper bid and E-Bay will automaticly increase the bids for me up to that upper limit.

Somehow I don't think the auction will get up to the upper limit I have set but if it does then someone else will get the bike.

Now I have to sit, watch and wait.

This is kind of fun and exciting.

Yes, eBay allows you to put in a bid and eBay will then automatically enter a bid, as long as your bid ceiling is higher than the current bid plus the bid increment for that item.

The best strategy is to place your bid very late in the process. That way, you don't let others know that you are interested and maybe run up the price.

Unfortunately, most eBay bidders know the routine and you will see an items that is worth, say $500, listed at a bid of $100. Then, in the last minute or so, the bid goes up to $495 [or maybe $505] in $5 increments as fast as the eBay computer can insert the bids.

Good luck.

It's to easy so be careful. Don't forget your bids. I got sidetracked and a few bids on the same thing going on. You might not want to end up with a used motorcycle lot.

I've seen that happen. It's kind of fun to watch although it has to be frustrating for people bidding. (As I'll soon find out.)

This bike has been going up in $100.00 increments slowly over the past week. It's been stalled at $910.00 for the past three days. My high bid is $1200.00.

It's a nice bike for it's age. Well maintained and good looking with some extras. It has some miles on it but not too many. In my mind it's worth $1200.00 but not more than that. (I can get a much newer bike for $2k but without the extras.)

We shall see what happens.

(Damn, if I get this bike it will be the same age as my leathers.)

LOLOL

I have a bid in on this bike and this bike only. I also have a maximum set. (One I refuse to go over for this bike.)

Thanks for the warning though.

Sometimes it's worth not putting a round figure in. Put, say, 1257 dollars as your highest bid, then if someone else put 1200 or 1250, you're still the one who gets it - see?

Of course I only ever buy low cost items on Ebay and it may work better with smaller amounts :)

Fingers crossed.

I remember years ago babysitting and efriend through an eBay auction - it closed around 3am his time and he couldn't stand to sleep till he knew if he'd won or not. (he did win).

Well got home today and checked the E-Mail. Someone else got the bike. I was outbid by over $500.00. (The bike went for nearly $2000.00)

Hey, they were willing to pay more than I wanted to for the bike. I dearly hope they enjoy it. (Which they should.)
