were you trying to get me...

I noticed you had tried to PM me, but my mailbox was full. It should be OK now, or just use my email.

dearest du lac :)

never fear a frog, or a toad. they exist to help us exist. anyway, i was lurking, saw this thread, wondered what was "up" and thought i might let you see things from the POV of someone who waits for the frogs to emerge like little kids wait on Santa :rose:

Frog King

Frog King as observer of his realm
an imposing grand arena of
sixty cubic feet not counting
combined surface area
of fuchsia flowering lily pads

Imposing as he squats,
intense as any frog could be,
he bides his time upon a concrete hill
and this is why he is called king-
he has claimed the high ground

Frog King, His Majesty.
Imminent Culler of Protein
sticky tongue zapping juicy bumbles,
smearing flecks of pollen thick
across his smirking Frog King lips.

A mid-summer sun
warms old Frog King’s glistening back,
while abundant peasant frogs abound
in jet black water lonesomeness,
and listen as the water whispers,

this is not Big Frog City,

merely an abutment, an annex
a cement pond, an afterthought,
an un-abandoned trench complete
with hiccup rhythm that tickles the soil
and swallows the Frog King,
deep into the damp of night.

Magellan Frog Plots His Departure

Magellan Frog is kingdom explorer
frowned upon by Frog King
for being rash and irresponsible

He spends his days admiring
a verdant patch of centipede grass
that grows beneath the white wisteria

Magellan Frog is making plans:
1) escape to far off grassy land
2) command worldwide frog respect
3) rescue Princess Frog from wicked son
of neighboring frog king’s brother
4) spend life eating bees
and fertilizing eggs, and eating bees, and...

The only real problem with Magellan Frog
is his inability to plan or comprehend
the consequences of leaving
his small though adequate pond

So he ventures away, binocular vision
set upon gourmet cuisine
that inhabits the land beneath the vine-

he hops...he hesitates...
lowers his head
and.....he.....waits

Big Hop, he lands, an entire three feet away
from home, away from the Frog King
And (he hadn’t thought of this)
away from Water!

Magellan Frog makes a beeline
back to the little pond where he plans
his next foray into the world-

away from this particular pond
and even further away
from the disapproving eyes of the Frog King
~~~
hope they make you smile, and do not give you frogmares :)
I dont wanna hijack du lac's thread, but it seemed like simple thread, just telling us she woudl get to the reviews...but
1201, yes, burnt norton has affected me since I first read it and I didnt know why until I saw that PBS series on string theory. While I woudl never even pretend to understand the math involved, i do understand the concept and TS Eliot seemd to " know" string theory before it was ever proposed. He knew something, he suspected. I have a nortons anthology beside me now, if you dropped it, it would open to burnt norton :)
yes, it did shine through in " and so we dream" it shone through wonderfully, excellent poem, in fact excellent isnt quite good enough for that one... you grab me with your stuff and make me think...think hard...love it!! when is the next one? :rose:
Ah Ha!
Although I hate frogs.. toads are the worst.. I faint lol.. such a girly girly sometimes lol... although it still amazes me.. I was reading on Native American creation myths.. and found a good reason to dislike the toad lol... hehehehe...
from Huron legend..
The bad brother, Tawis-karong, made monstrous animals, fierce and terrifying. He made wolves and bears, snakes, and patnerhs of giant size. He made mosquitoes huge, the size of wild turkeys. And he made an enormous toad. It drank up the fresh water that was on the earth. All of it.
Oh dear, I was not aware of the water glutton toad. I had a toad, he was evil, I called him sinister toad-- heres his story, and what I did to him as punishment :D
~~
Eviction of Sinister Toad
Green frogs peeking from deep below
a foot of warm pond water, and there,
beneath a lily pad, is Sir Bug Glutton
also known as Frog King.
I have seen him surface for gulps of air
then glance and dive into the shallow.
He is an intelligent amphibian fellow,
and he knows there lies, beyond this pond,
his rival, Sinister Toad.
With his right eye missing, he’s a rascal
with a mission and he’ll allow no frogs
in his way. As he has hopped all day
and pirated the hole at the base
of the young cedar tree, where
Sweet Tammy Toad had been resting.
I bear witness to the fact-
Sinister Toad was up to no good!
He was observed toad-bugging the red bell peppers
as he strutted around, a weak attempt
to make a good impression.
I was willing to allow cohabitation,
(generous soul that I am)
until he used his pimply snout as a weapon
when all I did was warn him.
This is not Big Frog City.
But you cannot come in here
and take over the pond with its bountiful bugs,
or pee on my flowers,
or give Nicholas the cat, a nudge.
And have you forgotten Sweet Tammy Toad?
Forced her from her hole, she’s homeless.
An orphaned toad with nowhere to go,
and I thought I saw her leaving
with a little red bandana
tied to the end of a toothpick pole.
Sinister Toad, the verdict is in-
You simply have to go
~~
I wont try to convice you, they are rather unsettling critters at times... I am the same way about spiders, though I will admit to having a black widow living in my garden swing for a whole summer, she dried up and drifted away after she had her babies :) I wrote about that too, but the poem really sucked so I never posted it
thanks for the legend, its wonderful to learn something new :rose:
