OK, so what's gonna happen?

"Freedom of expression" always being somewhat iffy, what's gonna happen to curb or suppress** Moore's movie, 9-11?

Republicans, controlling most of the levers of power, have their knickers in a serious twist. The "keep quiet" ones are temporarily in predominance, overall. Can it last?

What do the prophets, historians, seers, and intelligentsia here see coming? Will the movie be shut down? Curbed? Surely it can't be allowed to run rampant till Nov.

**PLEASE post your predictions here, including 'nothing will happen', if that's what you think.

How will Moore be discredited? (Found with mash letters to Saddam? 10 year old boys' bones under the floorboards?)

One antiMoore site is now "giving away" copies of the movie (to undermine it commercially).

The only explanation I can see IF the movie remains, is that Halliburton, Bechtel, etc. have decided Bush is not necessary to make their billions.

**neutralize, extinguish, restrict, discredit, etc.

It's called the film "industry". It's a business. The distributors are not going to lose their investment. It's too late for censorship, what's going on is futile. P.

I don't know what's going to happen, but I'll probably see Fahrenheit 9/11 this weekend. I'm not a big fan of Michael Moore, but I did see Bowling for Columbine. While it wasn't great, it was an interesting film. I want to see the new one just to see what the fuss is all about.

Over the following weeks, more and more anti-Moore sites will come on-line listing the errors and the manipulations of this Moore film, previous Moore films, his television program and his books. Each will contain URL’s that quote each other, until no one will be able to untangle the snarl of mutual sourcing to find any possible underlying truth or overlying fallacy contained in the charges.

Finally, a former Michigan beauty queen, who claims to have matriculated at the Flint high school in Michigan, will step forward to confess that she has had a secret affair with the documentary filmmaker, since her seventeenth birthday. She will claim to have first met Moore at the 90th Annual Billy Crapo Carriage Company’s former employees of Flint Summer Picnic, and ever since then, she and Michael have been living in occasional sin.

At first, Michael Moore’s press agent will issue a blanket repudiation of this claim. Later, Moore will be confronted by the sexy and stunningly beautiful claimant before a gathering at the Washington Beltway Bijou. During that evening Moore will confess that he has been the girl’s lover. For the first time, even the filmmaker’s backers will not believe Michael Moore. Not even after he announces that he is prepared to make an honest woman of his former mistress, just like she suggested, will belief be forthcoming..

For several days, with the entire country urging her to accept Michael’s proposal, the young lady will hide from the press corps. Finally, she will come out of hiding to announce that she has decided to accept Moore's proposal.

She will announce plans to become Mrs. Moore on Wednesday, November 3, 2004.

Yes, I know that Michael’s wife, Kathleen Glynn, produces all of Moore’s films, but this is satire, don’cha know!

They're already discrediting it.

It's counterspin time.

I suspect they will stop advertising for it. Since it is defameatory to one candidate by name in an election advertising for it can be halted under federal election law. I would assume the feds will step in and halt advertising. Beyond that, I don't see much that can be done to stop it. I don't think the election law could be stretched to halt showings of it, although I am sure that's a possibility that the GOP will explore.

How about this.

White House legal flacks suggested that the president's powers to detain enemy combatants flow from his commander in chief status. As battlefield decisions, they are not second guessable by the courts.

Now, the SC was not entirely happy with that, I agree, but it seems to me if GWB-commander-in-chief can label an 'enemy combatant', he can label and 'aider and abettor' or 'agitator' for enemy combatants, and hie such persons away to a naval brig in Tierra del Fuego post haste.

There are always charges of treason, too, and there must be many possiblities under the Patriot Acts.

Virtual: Nice. But not scurrilous enough. How about some fellow claiming he lost his anal virginity at 10, to the then 17 year old MM, who made a video of it, frames of which are sublimallly flashed throughout Fahrenheit 9-11, which is actually an attempt to intimidate the man to silence, through the threat to reveal the frames in still photography.

My, you are devious! You should write books!:)

Some of the actual 'dirty tricks' that have been perpetrated in the past are no weirder than either of these, though.

Maybe the 'old fashioned' methods' are thought to be sufficient.
Florida has a list of 50,000 disqualified 'felons', mostly Black and democrat, which --on CNN no less-- is rife with thousands of errors.

So that the problem isn't the movies pinkos watch, but it's those lapses that let them go to the polls and vote. And have their votes counted.
