Now that i have your attention..

So Im resizing the pictures. Is there anyway i can keep the quality of the picture when they get smaller? With out making them look farther away?

in paint shop i sometimes use the sharpen effect if the pics look blurred after being resized

OK so i resized the pictures.. but the files are still 1m a piece :( Guess that is better than 2 and 3m a piece

Sharpening is most important thing - but you can also improve the quality of resized images by playing with the contrast, intensity and brightness to make the image stand out more clearly.

I have that problem too.

But Nora might have the answer. She knows everything. :D

What format are the files?

Right click the file icon and chose properties if you don't have "show known file types" turned on to see the file type.

What are you using to reduce them?

I have used Irfan View to reduce massive files with decent results considering it is freeware.

Also, try changing the JPEG compression or even saving them as gifs, which can yield sharper images when dealing with certain series of lines and colors/textures.

Along with converting them into jpegs (you can adjust the compression factors to whatever you need to make them small enough) it also helps to convert the image to an optimized 8bit palette - that usually doesn't effect colour quality too much and makes it even smaller.

How small are you trying to make them? Do you need to hit the 20,000 limit for AV's, or is this for something else?

No these are family photo's of my weekend and i wanted to share some with a few people but they take forever for them to DL :(

Try 'saving as' a different file name (but still as jpg's), that should get you into the compression options screen and let you set a higher compression factor. Or if you'd like you could send them to me and I could shrink them for you.

Open an image in IrFanview.

Got to Image/Resize

Enter Width = 800 or Height = 600 Whichever is the largest dimension of the picture.

Check units = Pixels

Check "preserve Aspect ratio" = checked.

Check Resample and choose "Lancos (slowest)"

click OK

Those settings should produce a Jpeg file of about 100kb to 250kb with IrFanview's default Jpeg compression when you save it.

When you select SAVE AS from the file menu, you'll have an "options" button at the lower right of the dialogue that will let you change the Jpeg compression ratio (picture quality slider) to adjust the size of the saved file if you need to.

*sigh* said not enough memory. i'm on my mom'c pc. This sucks hehe

Close all open pictures (without saving), close the thumbnail view if it's go to open, turn off "Undo" (at Options/properties/Misc1 tab) and close any other programs you have running -- you may have to go offline while you resize them, although turning off "undo" might free up enough memory.

make sure you're working on a COPY when undo is turned off!
