I have a question about certification for teaching high school, here's my story:

As of right now I'm studying Anthropology and I plan on going all the way to PhD. I almost sure I want to teach college level but I'd really like to keep the option of teaching high school open if the mood strikes me.

After I get my bachelor's I plan on going into the Peace Corps for a year or two then heading back to grad school for another fun filled seven or so years. So I want to know when would be the best time for me to take the classes? Now or when I enter grad school? I took this question to a few of my professors but they were no help whatsoever.

So if you know anything about this a little help would be appreciated.

it's much easier to do before grad school. the schedules usually don't mesh well at all, and grad school classes are such a huge amount of work...well, youg et the picture.

just my opinion, though. and i'm just a hapless drunk tonight. I was a teacher yesterday.

I think it also depends on the certification rules in your area. In NY, I have to take some tests and have a certain amount of experience and credits in my teaching area in order to be provisionally certified. When I get that, I have 5 years from there to get Permanently certified. Find out the rules in your area before you decide anything.

I heard that PA has one of the hardest certification tests and qualifications in the country but on a brighter side, because it's so hard I can send my test scores out to whatever states I think I may ever possibly live in and they will except them without me having to retake the test when I moved there. I think I'm going to look into taking the classes over the summer too. There's no way I want to have to balance any schedules. Thank you both.

No problem.

Is your av actually you? If so, you're gorgeous. just though you oughta know.

Sorry to Jump in the Middle of your Juicies

Do you really Teach high school kids anymore?

Sorry I'm so unbelieving{cynical}

Peace Corps? Why?

:cool:

Take the classes before grad school. Anthropology should allow you certification in social studies, my field.

You will want to be certified as a teacher in your state. Jump through all the hoops take all the tests. There should be an education person to talk to. Make an appointment and talk to them.

There is a big difference in price between undergrad, and grad classes. Get what you can now.

Good luck! And god bless you for wanting to be a teacher. We don't get paid a lot. But we have a big impact on the world.
