I was tired, been sleep deprived and I wasn't really thinking.. One of the guys I work with is a big fan of science fiction and fiction novels and on nights and weekends he's usually engrossed in a book. We had been talking about different authors and series but I was reading something and he had a book so the conversation kind of died off and I thought it was over.

Well, he mentions Gor out of the blue and they way he was talking I knew that he didn't really understand the dynamic so I pick up the conversation and am going into the socio-psychological aspects of it when I notice that he's looking at me like a lemur just crawled out of my eye socket or something.

How come nobody ever told me there is a whole damn series of books on Gor?

I picked up "Slave Girl Of Gor" at my favorite used bookstore, once. My feminist-studies sales clerk gave me the wall-eye when she saw it-- I said; "I just buy them for the sex scenes" and then-- WOW did I get a wall-eye!

Maybe because trying to get past the first chapter of any given book puts you to sleep? Or at least, it did for me.

I keep hoping that I just happened to pick up the shittiest one out of the series. For the sake of folks who actually like those books, at least. (Honestly... the most vaguely interesting part, aside from all the horrible preachy monologues, was where he was describing some guy building an igloo.)

Wait, what? How do you NOT know there's a series of books on Gor? I mean, looking it up at all leads you to John Norman! I don't know more about it than that, by choice...but if you google for Gor, you get John Norman right away.

As for mentioning it at work, whoops!

I love your comment to the clerk! I enjoy saying things like that just for the shock factor out of people. It's even more fun when they start chatting back and make it fun. And also fun when the person with you starts blushing out of ((embarrassment)) hehe

Well, it was true!

(there isn't any other reason to read 'em, I promise. )

:D

ROFLMAO

You all have way too much fun.

It's good to know that Gracie can still find humor and a sense of smug self satisfaction in my somewhat erratic and blundering journey through bdsm.

Like when I tried to dom my cat. She was just mildly annoyed until the shibari. I think she still has issues, won't play with yarn. :(

Cats don't sub, Bets! Sheesh!

You can get them to bottom-- as long as you do it right.

I happened to mention the existence of the Gor chat room/alternative universe to my research boss. I got a bit of a funny look that I knew about such stuff, but he knows me better now.

I don't get that you can know about one book but not that there were a whole load of them though.

Well, I didn't know there were any books and most of what I know about it is from reading discussions here.. which isn't a lot beyond the basic overview of it.

I see it as a kind of renaissance era idealized lifestyle with strict gender roles.

It's not my thing though so I just haven't researched it, all I know is that KC is really nice so I figure it's all good.
